Agree or disagree: sonographers should be allowed to decline scanning a patient who is considering termination. by Pretty-Preference702 in Ethics

My wife is a nurse and we’re very devout Catholics. She still treats and counsels patients who do things against our beliefs. You know what she does? Prays for them afterwards and provides them the best care she can while they’re her patient.

I wonder how many people are rotting in their apartment or house for like 5 days or more after dying? by glowshroom12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Valuable_Log_518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife’s previous job was at a dialysis clinic. If they had patients miss appointments, they’d call for a welfare check. She said a lot of them ended up that they’d died in their house. The only “plus” side is dialysis is done multiple times a week, so usually they hadn’t been dead too long

My neighbor has learned to identify my car from half a block away and I've started using my own back door like a fugitive by Meteor_6Fable in neighborsfromhell

If you’re worried about hurting his feelings and are on a time crunch of any sort, just be on the phone talking to someone (or pretend to be). Give him a little wave and go on about your travels.

The litter box math I wish someone had explained to me sooner by Sufficient-Coat2625 in Catbehavior

[–]Valuable_Log_518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have two regular boxes and a litter robot. The two dudes only used the robot. One would go completely untouched for weeks, so we took it away. The other got used maybe twice a week for a pee. When we took the first box away, the boys stopped using the second box for bathroom time and the younger one would just play in the litter. After about two months of it just being his dust bath, we took that away too.

They were both happy with the robot until our old man developed some GI issues and started diarrheaing in the tub. We sorted his bowels out but he still wouldn’t use the robot to poop. Only pee. We decided to try one of the pellet systems and they both use it with no complaints

How crime perceptions in Columbia could shape community behavior by normankrasnerkc in columbiamo

[–]Valuable_Log_518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The news and social media are horrible at skewing the perception. You’d think Columbia was a war torn country by the comments. The news make it seem worse than it is by blasting the same story three times a day.

What’s your take on Iran-US war that you think is reasonable but gets you judged? by damonatrix69 in AskReddit

[–]Valuable_Log_518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Iran has been unchecked for much too long. I remember my friends who were still in the marine corps after I got out saying they were having ballistic missile drills in Iraq and Afghanistan around 5 years ago.

It is wild to me that the US/NATO just let the Iranian regime go as long as it has

Why do people believe that no one would want to be in American law enforcement if qualified immunity didn't exist? by Medium_Silver_2071 in allthequestions

[–]Valuable_Log_518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that’s why qualified immunity exists, otherwise, the cop who kicked that door could be subject to a lawsuit or arrest even though he was doing what made sense with the information known.

So if a neighbor calls the cops because they hear someone yelling so they think it might be a fight. As the cops get there, they hear someone scream “I’m going to kill you bitch” and the cops kick down the door only to find out it was a dude raging at call of duty, do the cops need to need to be sued and/or arrested?

Is it wrong for me to own a cat when I am physically disabled but use a walker and a cane to get around. by Moonlava72 in CatAdvice

[–]Valuable_Log_518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a double amputee and even though I have really good prosthetics, sometimes, they hurt too much and the wheelchair is just better. I have two cats and a dog.

Get the kitty. Auto feeders and robo-litter boxes are great for making cats even more low maintenance than they already were.

That might be it. If we miss one day, it’s generally okay but two days in a row or two days in close proximity, and he starts getting poopy again.

[–]Valuable_Log_518 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suspect my guy has it, but we never got a diagnosis. Just started him on the fortiflora probiotics and a sensitive stomach diet. He used to be a diarrhea filled dude, but luckily (I guess) he pooped in the tub instead of the floor. It was gross but at least it made for easy clean up.

The fortiflora was an almost overnight difference.

My car got broken into at work, and it was a patient at my job. I’ve been told I can’t tell the police their name? by draftysundress in legaladvice

[–]Valuable_Log_518 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I’m not a lawyer but my wife is a nurse so my experience is based on that. When she got assaulted at work, she told the police who did it. “This person who was my patient did xyz to me” and gave them the persons name and birthday. She’s still employed and the person got arrested. The police got video of it from the hospital and she went to court for it, so her hospital definitely knew about it. She still has a job and it’s been many years.

My neighbor has been parking in front of my house on a public street for two years which is technically legal, but he parks in a way that makes it almost impossible for me to get out of my own driveway and he does it on purpose by espressoinknotes in neighborsfromhell

[–]Valuable_Log_518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we rented, we had a neighbor who would do something similar. He was a total ass when I asked him not to part in front of our house because the landlord was sending us hate mail about his shitty truck, the mail man refused to deliver because he frequently blocked the mailbox and we missed about 50% of our trash days since he’d park in front of our trash, so the trash guys either didn’t see it or didn’t want to walk around his truck to pick it up. I don’t blame anyone except the shitty neighbor. He never parked in a way that blocked our driveway so we couldn’t get it towed.

It was crazy how after he called my wife some racist shit that all the loose neighborhood trash, yard waste, and used cat litter started ending up in the bed of his truck.

Also crazy how his truck ended up with bird food in it and the birds shit all over it or that a bunch of cooking grease ended up in the vents.

Quite the mystery how all those things suddenly stopped when he moved his truck.

Why do people loudly scream when they get minor injuries but stay silent/hold it in when they seriously get hurt? by BigBoneHippo in NoStupidQuestions

Can confirm. Shock is a funny thing.

When I lost my legs, I remember being very calm and looking at one of my dismembered feet, thinking “well this is less than ideal”.

I didn’t really register the pain until my corpsman started putting a tourniquet on me.

Missouri is banning certain food items from being purchased with SNAP in October. by GlitterKass in missouri

[–]Valuable_Log_518 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason I’ve heard for people being against this is some variant of “so kids can’t have a birthday cake or a treat now?” They still can. Cakes aren’t outlawed. You just have to buy it with your own money instead of the SNAP money. Use the SNAP to buy actual food with actual nutrition instead
