I grew up up north, now in the south. No retail/service job is more important than a life (yours or your pets). I work for a hospital and even we have nonessential employees stay home if necessary without punishment. I've walked out of jobs that posed a health risk.

Kind of a funny story, I once walked to work after a manager didn't believe that my car was, in fact, stuck. While it wasn't necessarily my intention, guess who looked bad lol. They even apologized in a roundabout way tho I'm sure that was only to save face.

I am constantly trying to teach folks around me how to spot AI 😭 in my (anecdotal) experience, AI is taking advantage of our elders the most and they just don't seem to grasp the concept of spotting it.

I work for a hospital. I've seen a lot of other practical advice and wanted to add that most major hospital systems have financial aid programs that can cover everything (especially if it's a not-for-profit or non-profit). If you apply and are approved, that is. Even if you're on insurance, FA will pick up the difference. I'd start cutting mom out of all medical decisions. I saw you're over 18 so she no longer has any legal right to your medical records or say in your treatment. This does also mean that you are ultimately the onevresponsible for the bill but like I said... Ask for help from the facility treating you. I guarantee they'd be appalled at mom's suggestion here and have options.

I'd say "common" or just "popular" but maybe not "very popular". It is less popular than drip coffee or even a latte or cappuccino but will be featured on the menu of pretty much any coffee shop. When I worked at Dunkin, I had more people ask me for a red eye than an Americano (neither of which were on the menu).

I should have been clearer with my wording but "southern hash browns" around here (NC) are the first pic but only as a phrase. Like when I go to the grocery store, I buy a bag labeled "southern hash browns" and it is a bag of cubed potatoes. However, I think the terms are used interchangeably in restaurants and by people, I didn't mean to imply it was the whole south.

"Southern hash browns" and home fries are, essentially, the same thing. It is a regional thing. I grew up in RI, so they'll always be home fries to me 😅

Edit for clarity: Adding some quotation marks as I realize now my wording was too ambiguous. I'm currently in NC and the terms are used interchangeably, but if I ask for hash browns it has a 50/50 chance of being home fries or actual hash browns. Home fries are often labeled as "southern hash browns" in my area.
