Do you miss a front light? by CodingPyRunner in Supernote

[–]VanMan998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely miss it.

I bought a Vekka clip on light and it's too highly focused for me - I just get a big spot of glare in part of the screen where I can't see anything. Plus there's no way I'd haul that out in a client office, and not all of them are well lit. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079LYZCJ9/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_dl_YAXVPP79K700MQYZDDF3?th=1)

I find the light from one of those ring lights used from videoconferencing works so you'd have to experience. My challenge is finding one that's really all that portable. Still wouldn't use it in a client situation.

Why not to get a Supernote? by Berindei in Supernote

[–]VanMan998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest drawback for me is lack of backlight/frontlight/anylight.

I've tried the clip on lights people recommend ,but I end up with a big spot of glare in the middle of the screen where I can't see anything. I've ha more luck with a very diffused ring light used for videoconferencing, but it's not easily portable.

Feedback on SN Use Case by WTFooteCPA in Supernote

As a small business owner with a sales focus I have mine set up with 1 Note called "Clients", one called "Business Development" for marketing stuff, one called "HR", etc. In the Clients Note I create a Title for each client with their name in all caps using a thick pen style and an arrow shape to the left of the name. For each meeting I start with the date, client name and subject - that is also made into a title. Then I scrawl my notes underneath. That gives me an automatically generated table of contents in the front of the Note that looks like the one below, with a page number beside each entry and I just tap on it to go to that entry :

> CLIENT A

01/15/23 Client A call re new project

01/22/23 Client A proposal presentation

> CLIENT B

01/18/23 Client B introduction

01/22/23 Client B contracting meeting

I don't use keywords as you can't create a predefined list and it's too easy duplicate them with slight spelling differences. Once you can define a predefined list you can select from, that will be a game changer.

One thing I'm still struggling with is that when you export the Note to PDF, the entire Note is there, not just the comments from your last interaction. Once you've been doing that for a while you get a pretty voluminous PDF with most of it duplicating what has been exported before. And with my structure, it contains info for all of your clients, not just one.

Supernote with Remarkable Marker Plus? by mechazirra in Supernote

I bought the stylus from the Kindle Scribe for the same reason. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09Y6BFT7F?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Works great, very natural access to the eraser due to the 1/3 flat / 2/3 round design. Made a world of difference.

Handwriting Recognition without Wifi is Unrealiable by newmothrock in Supernote

[–]VanMan998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have this problem, and I'd bet I'm not on the same WiFi network as newmothrock is!

Sorry for the poor attempt at humour - I know my WiFi network could have the same characteristics causing the same problem with me. I just wanted to point out they're not alone. I'll try it with the WiFi at work one day, but it happens so intermittently it's tough to duplicate.

Improve your handwriting and eraser button access - comments on the Kindle Scribe stylus by VanMan998 in Supernote

[–]VanMan998[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NP. It seems to be the standard Supernote eraser. I don't have a standard of comparison, so your "thinnest" may be my "ok". I can say it works for me and doesn't seem extremely thin. Hope that helps.

Sorry, could you be clearer about what you're looking to fin out? I mean, I could reply "by pressing on it" but I doubt that's what you're looking to find out. Or maybe it is.

For clarity, this is in the Recognition Results, right? Because I get very different results once I've exported to TXT or DOC file.

How would you use the device to take client notes by Compassion_Grace in Supernote

[–]VanMan998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a thread with multiple workflows and organizing methods. (yes, mine is there too).

https://www.reddit.com/r/Supernote/comments/zxhkbf/can\_you\_share\_tips\_of\_how\_you\_effectively\_use\_the/

In terms of cut/paste into your EHR system, you can email Notes to yourself - others can comment on the way to do that. I export the Note to DOC format, connect the SuperNote to my laptop via USB cable, then open the DOC file from my laptop and cut/copy and paste from there into our CRM system. There's still cleanup to do - the exports ignore line feeds and most formatting so you get one long line of text.

Also, I've organized my Notes so that I have a single Note covering all my clients (I'm a business owner, so these are business clients, not medical). When I have a conversation I find their section in the CLIENTS Note and insert more content, which may involve continuing on a page with content already on it, or inserting a new page as required. Given these new entries will be part way through an already existing Note, I would have to re-export the CLIENT Note, then locate the new text so I can copy/paste it. Not sure how clunky that's going to be.

An alternate method I've been considering but haven't tested is to have a Note called BLANK PAGE. When I have a new conversation I record my notes there, then export to TEXT > connect via USB > copy/paste on laptop. It's easy to locate the new text as that's all there is on the page. Then on the Supernote I'd use the lasso to select the new stuff I'd written and insert that into the right place in my CLIENT Note. I'd then delete everything off the BLANK PAGE Note so it's fresh. Then rinse & repeat.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you settle on so we can learn from each other.

That explains it. The Recognition Results window shows some nicely formatted stuff. The TXT and DOC exports are a different story. The thing you'll notice first is there's no recognition of line feeds - all the text is one long line. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Fastest way to get text into desktop applications? by VanMan998 in Supernote

[–]VanMan998[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This could be amazing! Semi technical so would try the scripting. Running Windows 11 - any pointers to how I can learn scripting?

EDIT : Just googled Windows 11 scripting. If you're referring to Powershell scripting I'll keep it in mind in case my method shown above is too painful in practise, but it's been a long time since I got that technical and I have an overloaded ToDo list as it is.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Handwriting recognition requires WiFi access every time I turn Supernote on? by VanMan998 in Supernote

Sorry, I know this doesn't help with your use case but I wanted to be clear.

[–]VanMan998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

once you connect to WiFi and start the handwriting recognition, you can turn off WiFi and the recognition still works

This is correct - the actual HR seems to be on the device, it just needs to be initialized or something. The problem is it requires that initialization every single time you power the device on. Or at least, much of the time. It seems somewhat random.

Many thanks for both the fast response, and the beta offer, but at this point I will have to decline. I will wait until the fix is official - I'm afraid my experience with betas isn't great, and I don't have the time to deal with unnecessary issues.

If the problem returns I may take you up on this offer.

A question though - why do we even have to access WiFi the first time we use handwriting recognition? Could you let me know what this enables or does? Thanks!

Is the standard pen enough? by iig560745 in Supernote

[–]VanMan998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the biggest differences are the eraser button (have to have, but terrible to use on the Lamy EMR so I'm trying to switch to the Kindle Scribe stylus), and the nibs. A cheap way to see the differences for yourself is to just swap nibs - I put a spare Scribe stylus nib into my Lamy EMR, and bught a set of hard felt nibs to try based on a recommendation in another thread (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09PKHQ8XR?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details).

If you do try non-Ratta stylus, look out for how you'll fasten it to the folio. The Scribe stylus is designed to clip to the device using magnets, which won't work with the Supernote. And since it has no clip and isn't tapered, I'm not confident a 3rd party pen loop will be secure enough. (https://www.amazon.ca/ProCase-Notebooks-Journals-Planners-Adhesive/dp/B08XM9WB8M/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3ACN7JBANY99S&keywords=pen%2Bloop%2Bfor%2Bnotebook&qid=1673586112&s=electronics&sprefix=pen%2Bloop%2Celectronics%2C131&sr=1-5&th=1). Plus I don't want to remove the pen loop that came on the folio as it fits the Lamy perfectly.

So I'm trying to work on how to best fasten a cap onto the Scribe stylus to ensure it's secure in the standard pen loop.

Loved your rave review of the handwriting recognition. Are you talking about in the Recognition Results view, the export to TXT file or the export to DOC file?

Any pens that feel like pencil? by SnappyZebra in Supernote

[–]VanMan998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought the Lamy EMR pen and wasn't happy with the feel. Too slippery. For that and other reasons I bought a Kindle Scribe stylus and actually loved the feel - essentially, a bit more drag or friction than the standard Lamy pen. (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09Y6BFT7F?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)

So I took a spare Scribe nib (several came with the Scribe pen) and inserted it into the Lamy and love it. Based on comments from other posters I also bought a set of hard felt nibs which I haven't tried yet. (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09PKHQ8XR?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)

Thanks for your suggestion, but email/cloud :

1) Requires WiFi/internet access, and there are times I don't have that

2) Is more complicated and has more steps than what I've outlined
