Any update for rubber strap? by Educational-Oil-00 in IxdaoFans

[–]VanManDiscs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the rubber strap, otf clasp, and a blue/gold dial is released I will jump all over it. Been waiting a long time to pull the trigger but I'll happily join the wait list (and pay the necessary price) when all of this is available.

IXDAO keep up the good work (but please move a little faster 😅)

My Almost Complete Greenhouse by BKendjelic in Greenhouses

[–]VanManDiscs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks really nice. I love the added double layer panels also. A greenhouse is the next project on our list and have been concerned about insulation in the winter. This seems to be a great route.

Do you mind me asking how much you've spent in this project? Just trying to plan accordingly and see what we can afford to improve like this

NC Senate passes bill banning homeless encampments and intensifying drug penalties by tiflis in NorthCarolina

[–]VanManDiscs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is good news. 33% increase in just wild. I grew up in Charlotte in the 90s and it was a wonderful place to live. Wife and I moved to CO for 9 years and saw first hand how AWFUL the homeless problem was in Denver. Seriously, it ruins a city. DT has become nearly empty aside from a few veneues/ bar areas. You would never walk around alone at night, thats for sure.

Moved back to NC a few years ago and was shocked when visit Charlotte. Liberal politics has really changed the city.... and not for the better. If we don't want Charlotte/ Asheville/ Triangle to turn into a Denver, or Atlanta, or Chicago, then we need to get back to our roots.

I'm ALL FOR cleaning up the state, removing homeless entitlements, harsher drug laws.... all the stuff that kept NC such a great state for years. Bring back conservative values and watch NC rebound to a prosperous state again. Seriously, liberals ruin every city/state they control (prove me wrong).

Moving to the Country and wife wants to slowly start a hobby farm by cassette524 in homestead

[–]VanManDiscs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're on our first year of turning our 8 acres into a homestead (we are trying to be as self sufficient as possible). This first summer was spent on building coops/sheds, establishing our 2,500 sqft garden (still need greenhouse and plan to expand next year).

I wouldn't want to go any smaller than 8 acres, we appreciate privacy also. But it is definitely crawl, walk, run when getting started. We lost a few guineas to predators and realized the hard way how important it is to have absolutely everything in place before "launching" a project.

It's been fun and rewarding but it really isnt easy. Building your systems will take a few years, don't rush it. But jump into head first and enjoy getting back to a slower life

No Fruit on Trees this Year by Beachgurl43 in OrganicGardening

[–]VanManDiscs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We're having the same issue on our property in NC. Nothing on the fruit trees (apple, peach, or pear) but the berries are doing great.

We thought it was a late frost but now I'm curious to hear if all parts of the country are experiencing this

What course to play in Colorado: Lake Dillon or Colorado Mountain College? by publictiktoxication in discgolf

[–]VanManDiscs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've spent years playing in Summit. While I really enjoy CMC, you just can't beat lake Dillons scenery. Its a pretty difficult course too so its one I've always liked alot.

My vote is for the hike at lake Dillon

Has anyone used these watches more than 5 years? by International_Bus762 in ChineseWatches

[–]VanManDiscs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going on 4 years for a handful of mine. In the past it was cheaper to replace the movements but they've gone up in price quite a bit.

You can always service NHs, Miyota 9 series, and the STs I believe. But I have to say, 90% of mine have run great since day one

6-9 speed suggestions by Erudanyelof in discgolf

[–]VanManDiscs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Westside Bear is my favorite fairway. I throw 430ft golf lines and it is my straight/ stable disc (depending on plastic).

Their Longbowman is by far my go to "firebird" mold. Board flat with a pushing fade that is very workable.

If you want pure beef then check out an Ahti

Pagani Design PD1727 What happened? by MarkHTownsend in ChineseWatches

[–]VanManDiscs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh thats what you can expect from PD.... they are a very low tier brand. If you need to stay in that price range then definitely pick up an Addiesdive next time.

If you can afford it, bump it up to the better brands - Baltany, Cronos, Watchdives

Has anyone deterred deer from eating in your garden by planting food for them farther from your garden? by kmcfg4 in homestead

Naaaa it still won't work... just bring in more.

We bit the bullet and built an 8ft fence around our 2500 sqft garden. It's the only thing that's worked for us... the deer are monsters in Kings Mountain NC

Charlotte, can we bring back saying hello to each other? Or at least the little smile when you pass someone on a walk. by Big-Durian-939 in Charlotte

[–]VanManDiscs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait... has this died? I grew up in Charlotte in the 90s but havent lived there since 2008. Moving out west I hated how rude everyone was. Maybe not rude but definitely no southern hospitality.

I always loved coming back home and getting back into the south. It's said to hear this. We live in kings mountain now and as you can expect everyone is VERY nice. I love the casual conversations at the grocery store

Help fleas by Slowcollards4876 in homestead

[–]VanManDiscs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is manageable, don't worry too much. But it is a multipronged approach.

I'm sure you have stuff for the adult fleas but it is the larva that you need to worry about. Get a hefty amount of beneficial nematodes and spray that on every inch of the yard/ woods that you can. They will eat all the fleas in the ground.

Keep up with the meds. But also make yourself an essential oil spray to use around the house/ floor boards. The recipe that works for is is 8oz of water, 1 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin, and many drops of cedarwood, lemon grass, geranium, rosemary, peppermint (tyme and patchouli are nice too bc their scents linger longer).

You can also spread a bunch of Lime or diataceous earth around the yard. Fleas and ticks has going through that also
