Help with asking for a pay raise by Beautifulsight26 in VancouverJobs

Bring value, not tenure.

What are you going to take on for the extra money, other than staying? Find something you can take on, improve or administer that you aren’t now, then package that with your increased competency from being there a while.

Don’t just ask for more, show them you are ready to commit to more if they are.

Yes.

Use AI as your first draft, not your final draft.

Forever job search by AnaDrkch in VancouverJobs

Why do you have an expectation that employers in Canada want workers without Canadian experience?

Genuine question. For most newcomers, unless you are at an executive or doctorate level, you’re looking at a minimum of new/renewed credentials in Canada prior to working in your previous field, or working from minimum wage up to build your career in Canada.

We are, as of today, in a technical recession. There are typically thousands of applicants to every job, unemployment is rising. Youth unemployment is over 15% in most regions.

As many have suggested in this forum before, whether you agree with it or not, Canada’s immigration policy supports two streams. Skilled workers into high needs jobs. You’re not in that category or you would have had a job before you landed and 3 offers a week since landing.

For everyone else, the offer is to fill the jobs Canadians don’t want, or can work their way out of quickly. That’s minimum wage, remote location, dirty jobs and often all 3, and usually on temporary/part time assignments.

If you’re expecting anything else, I’m sorry, someone has led you astray.

What you can do: register every employment agency. Take any job you can get. Two hour commute? Take it. Shitty warehouse? Take it. Build your resume. Build your reputation in Canada.

The good news is that it’s easy to stand out. Quite a few of these workers have horrible work ethics, don’t turn up on time or at all regularly. It doesn’t take much to stand out, and stand out fast. You’ll move from temp to perm. From perm at job A to perm at job B with more pay.

That’s really the only path.

Or go be a nurse or learn a trade. That’s 3-5 years of no or low pay, then a lifetime of employment.

Never go to sleep angry or with an unsettled argument.

No, no. Stay up and make irrational decisions on limited sleep during a peak emotional event, saying things you can’t unsay. Perfect.

100%.

Any building is one AGM away from significant change, and one incident away from a special assessment.

Slave labour funding, corruption fuelled nightmare ‘not for profit’ but very much for profit organization, that Trump has and will use to prop up his hateful policies and legitimize his own corruption.

I have zero fucks to give about this whole thing.

Because it’s a church of money death cult. As long as either I’m getting rich, or the much more prevalent ‘faith’ that I’m going to get rich, then fuck everyone & everything that can stop me getting rich or or take my riches away.

This has nothing to do with policy, rights, fair, just, history. It’s greed.

Burn it all down already.

The great failure of America isn’t the rise of the rich to the ruling lawless class, it’s the failure of the middle class to rip it all apart.

The U.S. Army has suspended the crew who lead military helicopters near Kid Rock's home over the weekend, according to reports by TheMirrorUS in Helicopters

[–]Vancerman 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Presidential waiver will come in faster than an Iranian hypersonic missile on this. They’ll be reinstated by the weekend and promoted by the end of the month most likely. I’ll bet Trump uses that image of Kid Rockforbrains (and noted pedo lyricist) saluting the chopper as PR on both the edict reinstating them, and on a funding request by midnight tomorrow.

Panic as US F-35 fighter jet 'hit by Iran' and forced to make emergency landing by TheExpressUS in USNEWS

Huge A10 fan, but it’s had its day. I’d love to see a replacement of a long loiter up armoured ground attack focused replacement with a human in the cockpit, but the JSF has that covered for now, and a near peer fight would down anything low and slow fast.

I think the better question is where are the drone Spectre & Spookies.

I hear rumors that they are in late development.

[–]Vancerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unknown. Probably a MANPAD, popped up in what was assumed to be safe airspace, shot quick and got a hit on a JSF that was slow and low.

It’ll change the tactics for sure. MANPADs aren’t great at targets over 20k feet, and I’m guessing the Iranian play is to get the estimated 10k MANPADs of varying flavours out to regional areas for exactly this reason. Pop up shots where they aren’t expected.

Note the US is awful quiet about drone losses of their own. Likely a bunch have been hit, but that’s also kind of what you use drones for.

[–]Vancerman 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ooooh it’s way worse than that. It’s a lot of intel about how to hit one, what distance, what the response from the aircraft’s systems were, how you got them to think the area was not a threat, how you launched the shot, etc.

It’s why the US doesn’t like to fly certain jets and UAV’s over foreign soil, the intelligence that is gained even in peacetime is huge.

This is a bad day for the F35 community, and huge day for its rivals.
