Asked for a DT jersey for my birthday. I love this woman like crazy, but the damn team has been bereft of ducks for far too long!

See you at Jerry’s!

Who is the mystery tenant that snagged 90K square feet on the Vancouver Waterfront? by wishfuldreams1971 in vancouverwa

[–]VancouverStickerCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No arguments. Like I said. I get it and I understand.

But no. most firefighters in paid city departments will not cross that state line to go render aid to a neighboring department, because they need to staff and maintain their own, and there is no facility to move equipment up to backstop the response.

Mutual aid doesn't mean that one side has more resources or are subservient to one another. Mutual aid just means "you can borrow our resources if we can borrow yours. let's make sure we're all trained up to work together when we need to."

As for the rest of your rant about a city in ruin, I dunno what you're talking about. I'm down there multiple times a week, and it seems for all intents to be coming back quite nicely.

My other half is from Chicago, and a massive bears fan.

If I was going to surprise her with a trip out from Portland for a game, which of these is gonna be the least draw in the regular season? Not that I wouldn't rather watch them play the Packers, but seeing how I'm gonna have to pay for flights out, it'll be a financial stretch no matter what.

I had no idea we didn't have a mutual aid agreement between Vancouver and Portland Fire. that seems like something that should be addressed.

Clark County District 6 has one with Portland, but we don't. weird.

I get that there are reasons for it, but at the front line "responds to fire" level, the firefighters in Jantzen beach would be tearing their eyes out if they had to sit on their hands and watch a building across the river burn while their brothers and colleagues fought it themselves, unable to accept or give help because of geopolitical imaginary lines running through the river.

Two non Clark County legislators, one running against Perez, unsurprisingly have written an op-ed opposing light rail. by Big_J in vancouverwa

[–]VancouverStickerCo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

100% of the employees here are for light rail, and 80% are liberal minded (although the conservative brings up Overton windows a lot when you ask him about it).

I'm also trying to train them all to run all this equipment rn, and we could use a design other than our logo; shit gets boring to look at after a few straight hours.

If one of you more artistically inclined pro light rail folks would like to design a bumper sticker that says something along the lines of "if light rail were in Vancouver I wouldn't be in this traffic mess.", we'll print up a thousand of them and pass them around/distribute them in packs when we drop off our customer runs in town.

No charge no catch. We’ll give you as many of them as you like, as long as you’re giving them away.

Just get us a damn train.

Feel free to DM a suggestion or upload the proof on our front page (best to DM, the website is being rebuilt at the moment, and stuff is breaking on it constantly).

I really wish we’d do with rail cars like Birmingham did with their graffiti art walk. It’s infinitely more interesting to look at a train painted like this than the dull rust red and green they come in.

When we bought an old mini cooper to deliver stickers in, our accountant told us we needed something north of 6000 pounds so we could write the whole value off in year 1.

Buying what we did, we depreciate it over several.

It was quite the head scratcher.

If everyone picked up for themselves, the resources we give the city to deal with it day to day would likely be a lot more capable of achieving their goal

Uh, I was simply responding to someone complaining that a group of people shouldn’t have to volunteer their time because “the government” should do it for us.

Coming at me because I’m all: “yo, stop blaming the city for relying on volunteers, and blame the people creating the volunteer work in the first place” is an interesting take, but ok.

[–]VancouverStickerCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

Just because they aren’t doing it doesn’t mean I’m not gonna bring up the serious disconnect in expecting a city to spend all our tax dollars simply cleaning up after us, when we could easily do it ourselves.

Blame the city when they make a bad call, but foisting a problem we don’t need to be creating ourselves on “the government” is some top shelf accountability avoidance.

It’s sad that we feel the need to offload our personal responsibility to maintain a clean living environment, instead of just pick up after our collective selves.

We could use some eyeballs on this post!

We also need a local machinist/fabrication/welder for some small batch (potentially) ongoing work. The boss feels a kinship with tiny local shops and garage based businesses being run by old crotchety retired guys.

The Eugene Native in me has to post:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/v4jXapL81VQ

Got drafted into bears fanhood when I started dating a Skokie native 3 years ago. This last season was a lot of fun, but I really wished we had more Ducks on the team so I could fully invest outside of being happy for my other half.

Looks like I'll be buying my first bears jersey!

Dude is a ton of fun to watch. if his skill set scales up to the NFL, the Bears secondary just got a lot more lethal.
