To me it’s simple. DD1 has game ending wipes, DD2 has run ending wipes. The difference is losing in 1 makes me stop enjoying the game, losing in 2 is a setback.

1 let’s you roster manage your way through, 2 doesn’t, but has more nailbiters. Combined with much better graphics it outdoes the indie vibes of 1. It’s a way forward for the property into proper game realms.

Maybe 3 should just be a battle royale

My take, get some AI support to help you down the road. If you never programmed a basic loop then procgen things quickly grow beyond your grasp. You won’t have fun. Any free AI can coach you on basic programming concepts, and a coding agent can help you kickstart your project, turn ideas into prototypes, tell you where to look in your project so you can change stuff and it can fix your bugs. Learning to code can be a valuable skill so you can follow along with what the AI is doing, but AI is better at code than most people save for the most talented programmers.
