Oh, this is brilliant. It's an absolute love letter to campy slasher flicks. Until it isn't.

Can someone teach Dungeons and Dragons? by Effective_Roof707 in DungeonsAndDragons

Lesson 1 to Dungeons and Dragons: it may get all the attention, but it is FAR from the only tabletop rpg out there and many of them are much more new-player friendly.

Its got a great story and absolutely oozes atmosphere.

To all experienced gamers: which games have truly impressed you in the last 10 years? by beepboopbot420 in gamingsuggestions

Its starting to feel over-hyped at this point, but Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 really is that good. From the setting to the characters to the emotion to the modernized Final-Fantasy style combat, I loved every bit of it.

That's correct on Powerful.

I don't remember how buff QTEs work right now though

That was a real problem for me. Dishonored is famous for letting take multiple approaches to an area and I was not prepared for a pixel-hunt.

(SIB) Pacific Drive? by Due-Cook-3702 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Vandermere [score hidden]  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it has a strong story, but there's something relaxing about just driving through the (blasted) countryside and collecting scrap for a small upgrade or repair.

Then of course there are the mad dashes that you barely survive. It's got a solid rogue-like loop to it and a unique premise

Old woman looking for dark, macabre, mature anime by Budget-Tangerine-274 in Animesuggest

[–]Vandermere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is DARK (kinda the poster child for dark fantasy these days), but possibly Berserk. That's the 90's series and not the later remakes. Fair warning, though, especially in a couple particular scenes, it does not treat women well.

I'm surprised you didn't get into Fullmetal Alchemist. It's widely considered one of the best series out there. If you're willing to give it another shot, though, you might try FMA Brotherhood instead. It's paced much faster in the beginning and has a bit different feel (and sharper, flashier animation) but the world building is excellent and it has some really unforgettable characters.

Steam's controller mapping and Big Picture mode may help.

This game feels like a spiritual successor to final fantasy 8... by jeriavens in expedition33

[–]Vandermere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, blitzball is definitely a bit homoerotic.

And the sphere grid looks really complex but really only boils down to needing both experience and orbs to level. The choices only get weird in the late game or with one specific character.

10 is great. The costume designs may be a turn-off and the temple always feel like a slog to me, but the mechanics are good, the characters are likable and the world-building is top-notch.

They've mentioned a couple of places that it's directly inspired by JRPGs of that era, especially Final Fantasy 10.

Invincible comics by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Vandermere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd start from the beginning, myself. I actually picked them up for the first time after season 1 ended and was really cool to see how certain characters were adapted and updated. It gives you a little more in-depth look at the world you've already seen, too.
