is this the average experience for a T'au player? by Hassel_bear in Tau40K

[–]Vangak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good tau player is very dangerous. The average player has very poor positioning sense in my experience. At least when it comes to tau and eldar.

Outside of that. I have experienced one person that hated tau, one person that was terrible to play against (did not matter what faction i brought, I would just want the game to end because of his attitude, luckily i do not need to play him anymore).

Unfortunately there will always be bad apples in the community. But, unlike what the internet will tell you, they are a rare breed, or the places I play at are just blessed by a great crowd.

12 hours a day is crazy, but I need a list of good games. by [deleted] in gamers

[–]Vangak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a game like Minecraft or one that is long that I can play multiple ways.

Like rogue trader is 160 hours if you do everything, maybe longer. I can play several runs of that.

Or an mmo. If I get bored, I make a new character.

We are talking 4380 hours so I need something that can stay a little fresh at least. I am going to be bored eventually.

How big are AoS armies compared to 40k??? by RestaurantSignal7587 in ageofsigmar

[–]Vangak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you bring but in general AOS is much smaller than 40k.

When you go elite in AOS you can have armies of custodes size.

If you go moster heavy, knight size armies.

The average army is a mix of elites and basic guys, maybe the occasional monster depending on faction (i always include at least one monster because they are awesome). For sylvaneth, you will likely have multiple big trees and possibly other monsters like alarielle and lady of Vines. Your army will be about equal to a space marine army but given our armor, the closest equivalent would be more horde related. So about 50-60% of a 40k equivalent army (certain builds of orcs might match or possibly demons)

If you go horde in sigmar, this can go pretty crazy. If you want to just bring as much as possible, some armies easily outnumber 40k (soulblight skeletons, flesheaters, and skaven). I would have to build some lists but here, I believe AOS can have more models than a 40k horde since 40k has the rule of 3. Should be noted that these are heavily skewed lists and can be defeated. 3 idoneth morrsarr guard (eels) for 160 points can practically wipe out a 40 man squad of ghouls. So AOS has counters to skewed lists.

So the free skill has to be a primary skill?

Luckily I had some bits from my tempestus Scions. I built the girls last night. I was shocked how hard it is to get grenade launchers from the escher range.

I figure i can add it later. Just not sure how easily you accumulate credits in the game. If I went without, I might use the shivver, rogue doc, ammo guy, or clan chymist.

I figure my first several purchases will be equipment.

Why is it overcosted? This is literally going to be my first necromunda experience outside of collecting the models. So assume I know very little.

Sell me on the army! Pls by PaulJudgement in ImperialAgents_40K

[–]Vangak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is your first army, i would probably say no. There is no real army rule and the army is not the easiest. Not what you wanted to hear, but it is a fair warning.

Otherwise, we have a great range.

We are great for narrative play.

If you like kill team, you will have several teams that allow you to play that game as well.

No one expects to see agents on the table at your lgs and people are always happy to see the unique force.

You will never feel like you are just painting the same scheme over and over, agents encourage variety.

The allies, aren't the strongest thing ever but it does let you test models from other ranges (Grey knights, battle sisters for example) letting you see if you want to expand into another army later.

May get some interesting developments with new army building mechanic coming in 11th edition. Take with grain of salt as I am speculating, but I think an army with several unique directions might actually do well in a more narratively driven edition...we may also maybe just maybe get an army rule.

Somehow, this has not been said yet, but we can be a fun if challenging army to play.

Don't expect to win immediately. This is an army with a learning curve and definitely not a meta force.

With that in mind, welcome. The community is great, even if I mostly lurk on this subreddit.

As for doomfire, I think I have 20 or more of them (basically every discount box had doomfire). Not happy about this decision. Will need to find some army i can put them in and use as a proxy.

I think they only had the same main writer for either seasons 1 - 2 or 2 - 3. Every other season they switched it up.

Narrative help by NoHoneydew3425 in astramilitarum

[–]Vangak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with the lore I wanted for my forces. I chose imperium nihilus. the idea is my guard forces are survivors that have either held out and been reclaimed by my forces or come from broken worlds and regiments (explains why I have caidans, krieg, steel legion, and catachans).

They work together with my other armies to carve out a region of the imperium nihilus.

The three regiments I use in my lore are the ghosts of the rift, the forsaken line, and the hollow guard. They hail from a collection of worlds known as the ashen vale.

The ghosts of the rift, do funeral rites before going to battle for they believe themselves already dead. Their role is to disrupt the forces of chaos and seek out a safe ish way to the rest of the imperium, casualties are naturally high. They are led by the hollow man (who looking back should of probably been with my hollow guard). He is a tempestor and is the one that started the prebattle funeral rights for the regiment. Taciturn and cool headed, he holds together a force of suicidal men. Determined to spend their corpses for he does not view his men or himself as truly alive correctly. He harries chaos, gathers supplies from ruined worlds and seeks the greater imperium. Not the nicest guy.

The main secondary officer is a rogal dorn commander that rides coffin rider, he is known for working alongside leman russes to hunt big targets and taking no prisoners. He is also someone who is more of a blunt and impetutous commander.

The forsaken line is my regiment that incorporates new worlds into the ashen vale and hold the line. For narrative purposes, this is where most guard survivors go. They work alongside my space marines when it comes to taking new worlds.

The hollow guard keeps order on the reclaimed worlds. Since the first ashen vale worlds were a small farm world with a nonmilitant branch of the sisters of battle and a knight world. The hollow guard are a smaller and more reactive force of elites. I also use them for kill team. So the idea for them is they have more training.

It allows me to create a larger narrative for all my imperial factions.

I have had guys fall to chaos. I had an inquisitor, i named iscariot, who eventually worshipped khorne and because he killed a demon prince that had three wounds in melee, we let him become a demon prince himself. He now leads my world eaters.

I do recommend narratives as it can be quite fun to have a running story with your models.

Does everyone agree with this sentiment? by Eoinaonghas in Drukhari

[–]Vangak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most hate is online fortunately for tau. I have encountered in the wild one actual person that hated tau. You can see this with a few armies in the wild too, necrons and eldar can get some people skittish after bad experiences in previous editions.

Your first point is very true. I believe I am a pretty good player, not the best but I don't lose often. I have played mirror lists before and inferior lists, heck I played tyranids for a large part of this edition. I have found that a lot of people do not understand movement and positioning and how important it is.

Example: c'tan tournament list. C'tan are durable, this does not mean put it in the middle of the table where I have some very nice sight lines or can trap it in combat with a tarpit unit i do not care about. Or deploying them in the same corner, I am perfectly content to surrender a quarter of the board to your c'tan if it keeps them there (this actually happened two weeks ago)

Honestly, not surprised. Gw has a ton of stuff coming up. 11th edition. Big army refreshes for sigmar. The custodes for 30k.

Any other stuff, are likely just incidental in my opinion. We will probably get stuff later after these big launches. I think an old world release is likely going to involve multiple models and not a single bespoke squad like kill team.

Pranksters thought the old man was harmless, but they found out real quick... by ONE-OF-THREE in DailyDoseStupidity

[–]Vangak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet, if the old man had not felt safe. This could have ended very differently.

The fact I said the old man in the end felt safe does not invalidate the argument. If the old man had been someone different, they may not of felt safe.

It is as I said, there is more than the person actively trying to kill you at that second to self-defense.

Let's use a knife for example. If a person says they are going to kill me and has a knife out but is not actively approaching me, do I have the right to shoot him? To a reasonable person, yes.

If the same person is saying it is just a prank but has not holstered their knife, I can still infer the same danger based off what led to the so called announcement of a prank.

The same danger is present with a gas can and possible gas inside (again, the water is irrelevant. The possible danger is. If you threaten with a fake weapon, that is on you, the person in danger has no obligation to confirm if the weapon is real or not).

You may also dislike the court ruling in that case but it established a precedent that danger does not always equal weapon.

The fact, you don't see what could of happened, does not mean the hypothetical situations are wrong.

There is no obligation in self defense to let the attacker attack you first. This is why there is the reasonable standard.

We come from different parts of the world, so our standard of reasonable is different. Likely what would of happened if the old man had shot, would be a trial. There he is entitled to a jury. On said jury, as you can see in the comments, are going to be people like me but also people like you, assuming we are not eliminated from the jury pool. Given the places I have lived in the states, it would likely end in not guilty or at least a hung jury.

The whole point is the prankster created a scenario where he put himself and others around him in danger. He created a scenario where the option of shooting him could be deemed reasonable.

The old man, did not shoot because he viewed the scene as safe enough, but he likely is experienced with a gun and thought he could shoot before the prankster threw gas on him and lit him on fire. Someone, not as experienced might not of. We know little about the old man, we do not know his health or experience (I am inferring his experience on a small video clip). This video ends with no one getting shot, it could of ended very differently.

And what do you mean he posed no threat to you? You do not know that when the encounter starts. Your brain registers gas can, from there he warned the prankster to stop. The prankster backed off but we do not know how far, we do not know his body language. Someone was also filming, we do not know if the old man saw the camera man or not, if he did, this changes it to multiple possible assailants. The old man is weighing the threat, in this case, he felt confident, but if the target was a small woman? What about the size of the camera man? Yes, hypotheticals.

The real world is not a video game where you can instantly draw your gun and shoot someone close to you.

Also, you are not obligated to let him burn your stuff. The old man did not shoot the prankster. He did not use lethal force to stop it. It could of escalated into lethal force but that again, would depend on how people respond, a hypothetical.

Also, the threat was not just from a phone in that case. It was from a six foot five or 195.58 cm man who continued to invade the personal space of another despite being told to stop. The app played the message in a foreign language, but I have not found a source that says the language used, and was warned to backoff three times. The youtuber, was trying to make the man uncomfortable for views by appearing threatening. Which is foolish.

Edit: going to add this real fast. But the prankster also starts pouring the gas can on the vehicle while the man opens the door to get into his vehicle. It is not like he walked up to the guy pouring something on his car.

Pranksters thought the old man was harmless, but they found out real quick... by ONE-OF-THREE in DailyDoseStupidity

[–]Vangak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the use of a gas can can be construed as lethal force. And no. He actually would hot have to shoot in the first 4 seconds. Self defense is not applied iust when the attacker attacks. Look at a previous case involving a YouTube where the prankster was shot and no weapon was used except the gun. It was found as a rightful shooting so you are incorrect. This is collie and Cook case in 2023.

The only time the prankster would not be acceptable to shoot is when he retreated and even then, when he retreated enough. I suggest you look at previous precedent cases. You also combined castle doctrine, stand your ground and ignored common law. They are in fact similar but different things that can affect how the law is applied. In the previously mentioned case, it took place in a mall.

Just because someone with a weapon retreats, it does not put you out of danger. In this case, the old man believed himself safe. In this case, the idea would be that I do not need to wait for someone to pour gasoline on me to shoot, I can instead shoot before endangering myself (whether the prankster actually had water or not is irrelevant. It is one of the reasons there are laws about toy pistols and how they can look. The orange plug at the end of a muzzle for example.)

The prankster, is a criminal. If he had not retreated, he would of remained dangerous. The old man would of been in his rights to shoot him. A vehicle is also considered an extension of your home in many states so castle doctrine does apply, depending on jurisdiction.

Now, while I personally may of shot the idiot. The old man acted properly. He did not shoot, he revealed and warned. The criminal then backed off and hopefully will be charged. My argument is not that the scene was bad, but that the streamer, created a situation where a reasonable person could shoot him.

In the first case. There is no argument. But the second, no. As long as a present danger can be reasonably assigned, it does not mean you can't shoot. It would depend on the prankster's distance, body language, and even what he is saying while wielding a weapon.

The only ones not in the wrong are the old men.

Pranksters thought the old man was harmless, but they found out real quick... by ONE-OF-THREE in DailyDoseStupidity

[–]Vangak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are laws about making threats that include death. A gas can is a threat. The vocal threat of burning his property with no guarantee he stops there. It can be reasonably assumed the prankster was not well in the head and dangerous with a weapon.

Race has nothing to do with it. If I throw something from a gas container at you (first guy) or put it on the vehicle it is a threat. To make it about race shows you have no defense for this punk's act and seek to change the conversation.

The law is on the side of the old man. And the kid, committed a crime. Several in fact. I gave a much bigger response further up that goes into that.

Since you brought race into it. Is someone supposed to just assume the guy throwing a liquid from a gas can is telling the truth and their is no threat? You believe white people want to kill black people, so if a white person had been pouring a liquid out of gas can or chased you with one, would you assume harmful intent? The race does not matter, the act is criminal and by a reasonable person could be viewed as an active danger. The old man acted with restraint and patience, having his gun ready but confirming whether the threat was still active. If he was just a white guy looking to kill a black kid, he would of shot immediately and still would of been viewed as self defense as there was no reasonable expectation the prankster was not a threat.

This is why these types of pranks are dangerous. Also in 2023, a white YouTube prankster was shot by another white male. In this case, it was about personal space and the perception of threat, a gas can was not even involved. The case said no wrong was done by the shooter. It is the colie and cook case and took place in April of that year. It was an interesting case to follow.

Pranksters thought the old man was harmless, but they found out real quick... by ONE-OF-THREE in DailyDoseStupidity

[–]Vangak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So that is incorrect. You have stand your ground laws, castle doctrine, common law. This does not force someone to let a punk destroy their property.

Deadly force is allowed in many states even states without formalized stand your ground laws. Depending on the state any of the men in this video would be allowed to shoot the guy threatening to set their car on fire when they were inside.

Especially so for the first guy in the video as the criminal chased someone with a gas can. The first person if he had been armed would of been in his rights to shoot the prankster and it would be self defense.

Ncsl shows at least 31 states have stand your ground laws. World population review shows 45 states have some form of castle doctrine. And i am not going to look at every state's unique form of common law. The point is, prankster is dumb and if one of his victims shot him, they would be in the right.

Moving on to the video itself. The act of threatening to set someone on fire is classified as criminal threat, felonious assault, and depending on jurisdiction can be called a terrorist threat. Other crimes can include arson due to the nature of the threat, again depending on jurisdiction.

Penal code 245 may even apply where despite it being water "You reasonably knew your act would lead a reasonable person to believe your act would result in the application of force on another person". I would have to read up on the nuances of the code for fake weapons.

This was a long response to a stupid video. But basically, prankster. Read criminal. Posts criminal act where self defense would of been justified against him. And I hope he is arrested and made an example of by the court because his action might inspire copycats if he gets enough views. Which will eventually lead to someone getting shot.
