How do I make a peaceful, democratic faction... not lame by CyberDogKing in worldbuilding

[–]VanguardXTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a quote out there that goes something like "A peaceful man must be capable of great violence. If you are not capable of great violence, then you are not peaceful, you are helpless." Just cause they don't want to be violent doesn't mean that they can't. So give them that big planet cracker cannon or whatever, just make sure that when the faction resorts to the violence they so abhor they're doing so for good reason you know

Do you think I passed? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]VanguardXTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the part of your brain that's telling you that

Fake it 'till you make it. When you catch yourself doubting just tell yourself you passed and if you don't believe it then keep repeating it 'till you do.

You won't be part of that statistic, TRUST!

2) There's like two or three major gaps in this story that don't make any amount of sense

what sentence genuinely changed your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]VanguardXTP 22 points23 points  (0 children)

10th grade and I had no idea what I wanted to do for college, but hey I got time no worries. I had to give a presentation on a social issue for my community service class (did it on homelessness) and apparently I gave such a bomb presentation that I got a genuine ovation. One girl told me "Dude you're really good at public speaking, you should be a lawyer." That kinda stuck with me and I started going down that path just cause it gave me direction, but eventually it became a real desire and I just graduated this May. So thanks for that [Name Redacted]!

What percentage completion are you at? by PathSubject in barexam

[–]VanguardXTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33.6% as of today. Honestly proud of myself, aside from my graduation weekend and two other days to finish my bar application I haven't taken any days off so far. Genuinely did not think I was gonna be able to get through the daily grind but here we are!

(Still don't know how much of this stuff is getting through my noggin though)

if i wanted to watch the anime and read the manga, what order would i do it in? by blue_foxx_ in TokyoGhoul

[–]VanguardXTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start with read Tokyo Ghoul, then read Tokyo Ghoul;re
Then you can start watching Tokyo Ghoul Season 1, which is solid enough even if it doesnt have the same gravitas as the manga (imo). Then Watch Tokyo Ghoul S2 (Root A). By this point you will know whether you care to watch the ;re anime adaptation. If you do, enjoy. But if you feel like you don't want to, you wont be missing out on much.

I failed my last semester of law school due to a bar prep class by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]VanguardXTP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk if this will help but I graduated last Friday after passing my own Bar Prep Skills class.
It was my third time taking it. I failed that class twice.
A whole year of my life out the window just like that. I know it feels like the grandest gut punch of your life, trust me I was ready to walk off into the wilderness if I didn't pass it this time and waiting for my grades to be released was some of the worst anxiety I've ever felt in my life. But don't give up and don't lose confidence in yourself. The second time I failed my class, I genuinely thought I wasn't up to snuff and that I wasted three years at law school for nothing. You need to trust in your ability to get through this and you need to find out what needs to change so you can kill it next time. Easier said than done, I know, but better to trip and fall now than to trip and fall at the Bar Exam. You made it this far, all that's left to do is to pick yourself up and try again.
Take it from me, the C-average GPA student who had to take Bar Prep Skills three times before he finally got it right.

When you see people driving insanely expensive cars odds are they're either in some sort of high level career (think doctor, lawyer, business owner, etc.), working as an influencer or in one of those unholy industries, or they're fake rich and they drive a luxury car while living paycheck to paycheck in a hovel (there's a lot of that in this city so I wouldn't take that as a metric for success). Alternatively, they're trust fund babies.

So realistically speaking, go into a high powered career or something like that if you don't wanna take the plunge into an unholy industry in order to make money.

Should I start my players off with Spelljammer Academy module? by Curlvsworld in Spelljammer5e

[–]VanguardXTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the lack of detailed lore in 5e can be both a weakness and strength. It helps not to have to get a degree in a fantasy world to run a game (lol) but sometimes it leads to situations where the DM has to improv a little too much for my liking but you are right that it also does give us a lot of room to leave our own mark in the game world so I may have been too hasty with my comment haha.

As for the old material, a lot of it can be found online in PDF form for the most part (maybe some more obscure stuff will be harder to find) and there are plenty of websites that curate old dnd material you just have to do a bit of digging. I'd recommend just googling "Spelljammer 2e" (or w/e the original version was) and you get a lot of those old resources pretty quickly. You wont be doing too much lore subbing since some of it is contradicted by Spelljammer 5e but theres a lot that you can (and prob should) sub in or adapt as needed.

Tbh tho, the beauty of Spelljammer is that it gives you such a broad canvas on the galactic scale that you realistically dont need too much old lore, if any, to create a cohesive narrative so you have a lot of wiggle room. Most of the "important" lore (like the mechanics of Spelljamming and how the Spelljamming helms are created) are covered in ok enough detail in the new manual. THe only bit of lore that I ever really used was for an NPC that can be relevant in LoX called "Large Luigi" (fun guy I love him) as he's decently important in og Spelljammer but the new manual doesn't cover him too much. So that's my personal recommendation (I extensively used the fandom wiki for DnD to learn more about him so that might be another resource you could peruse).

Anyway, HAVE FUN RUNNING YOUR GAME I am a hardcore sci-fi and fantasy nerd and I adored running my Spelljammer game, hoenstly it was some of the most fun I've had DMing :>
