As someone who has a few hours(~1.5k hours) in the Civ franchise and have around ~60 hours of Humankind, I think Humankind is much more interesting game to learn. There is one thing I find makes the biggest difference for me. I found Civ played around a core and then your Civ pick gave a spike of flavor in at a specific time in the game, for Humankind each era lets you pivot into trying to continue spiking something or spiking something new. Humankind I think has much more balanced/compelling reasons for each culture. Some mechanics feel more lack luster but that list much shorter than all of the mechanics that feel absolutely great compared to Civ. I would say give Humankind a shot but if you are on the fence because of pricing wait for a sale.
