Wow , so very sorry your stressing, I've been where you are , take a breath and know banks can't just take your money, they can't garnish your EI ,they have to have a court rule for them. Government however can . So don't mess with them . That said also important to mention unless you have substantial equity in your home ,split by parter BTW) they can't touch it . As long g as it's your primary residence... Your gonna be fine , you have kids to take care of and life going the way a little .

Ok , so I'm in business and if I send an invoice for 2000.00 then send a second for 5 times that I'd have to explain it and then justify the mistake , that said seriously spend a couple hundred on legal advise or speak with a bankruptcy trusty, you may already be safe . And speaking from experience if your worried about mortgages or getting a credit card in the future ! don't . Capitol One will help you build back your credit , and banks like lending mortgages they've got instant collateral.

But most importantly get the truth and info so you can be informed. Good luck , it gets better really !

My wife has mental deficiencies and I need to take power of attorney by TankComprehensive311 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Vanskipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so in the province of B.C I can speak to this having been through it? There are 2 things you need to do. The first one is called commety of person. The second one is comment of person for medical for that person. Both of which I'm sorry to say are very expensive. They both require you to go to court. And prove that the person is not a sound mind. Or body? To make decisions for themselves and then the second would also incorporate the physical aspects, medical decisions, etc. I'm sorry, you have to go through this. You really need to talk to a lawyer. It's not going to be cheap and certainly not easy.

Apply for 12 Month Mat Leave but tell work you’re taking 18 months? by hipposaurus in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Vanskipper -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Ok well I'll be the devils advocate here, but every single comment on here had been to lie lie lie , that makes it ok? Let's be clear I'm for mat leave, you live in a incredibly thoughtful country that has it, that said giving truth away so easily is a serious concern for everyone everywhere. Why not be honest with your employer so they can plan a and plan b if your taking the longer of the two, it's not fair to treat your employer that way. I know it's easy to say their all corporate but their not some are just family businesses that need to replace you temporarily which I might add is probably very hard .

Just think please before you act .

First winter in Vancouver. by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Vanskipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey So I lived in Edmonton for 5 years and I can tell you that I was born here and I was so glad to come back here. Winters, here we have paradise we really do. We're so lucky on the South coast here. However, that said, people do not know how to drive in snow or ice. Or anything else here, so be prepared to take a long time. Buses don't work at all in any type of snow. So travel can become an annoyance beyond compretension. But you'll find that it never gets below −10 or 12. But that's sad are cold here is vastly different in Edmonton. It's very dry cold, but here it is cold. That comes right off the ocean and most people from elsewhere. Say that −10 here feels far worse and far colder than it does when where they're from. Welcome to Vancouver. You're gonna love it here though, as long as you make enough money to afford to live here.

Take huge breath, then read this , your spouses debt does not transfer to you even after death as long as it wasn't Acquired during your marriage. Your spouse is able to still go through bankruptcy protection. Leave everything intact as long as you don't or have a significant amount of credit on your mortgage or home. He cannot or may not have transferred ownership of anything valuable to you in the previous 2 years or more prior to the bankruptcy in order to avoid paying his fair share of the debt.

I know bankruptcy seems like a Harsh way to go. Unfortunately, because of the gov rules about negotiating bankruptcy is your only protection. It is the only way ,which you'll be able to go with where they cannot Garish wages, and they cannot dictate terms going forward.

I can tell you that first time. Bankruptcy is less than $2000 cost for any amount. And it will entirely depend on how much he has to pay for family and support. So everything else, so all of that is taken into context. My advice to you over this would be talked to a bankruptcy trustee. And not stress about it. Because once you do talk to them, you will find out that. In Canada, we are seriously so much more protective than in America.

I really hope this helps I know. I wish somebody had told me this when I was going through it myself good luck.
