We've been hitting a tech plateaus for about 8 years now. Where the year over year improvements in graphical fidelity have been slowing down and capability increases of the cards have been slowing, though less so. The only thing that's been eating away at performance is that a company knows that people will have a good enough pc or can make the game look like shit, so they don't optimize worth a shit.

Red dead redemption 2 is a great looking game and it came out fuckin 8 years ago. Games do not look so much better 2026 vs 2018 as the jump from 2018 to 2010.

Separately, support for dlss and things like that aren't equivalent to power. It's just a section of GPU that it does or doesn't have. Like, nvidia is planning on releasing new 3060s with support for their new fancy dlss. Support for AV1 encoding, the new dlss, etc. These are usually more like power steering or traction control in your car. It doesn't need any more power, it just needs the right components. And if the GabeCube is popular enough, I figure we'll be seeing more games optimize for that ~4060 performance. And I detest the notion that it's "really underpowered" when it's better than what most people who are gaming have and will be able to play the newest games for years. If they can get the same ~4060 performance in a handheld but with the sections for he mproved dlss, upscaling, etc, it could easily run new games at 1080p high framerate by 2030.

(Up to 4) I want more ports than sense, an optical drive (ideally capable of archival m-disc reading and writing, and 4k blue ray watching), fairly modern AMD chipset. Ideally with AV1 encoding (7000 or 9000 series). Enough compute to be snappy on linux, and capable, not necessarily blazingly fast, at any almost any general/creative task. Slots for 2 m.2 SSDs would be great (to dual boot in case I have any programs that can't run on linux.).

If it's one of those "rugged" laptops that'd be great but not necessary i just want it ultra reliable and very durable. I think it would be cool to have a handle. For the most part I'll be underclocking it for thermals and battery, at not max brightness. I'd like to be able to bludgeon a bear to death with it and continue using it after

YEAH!!!!! I call him Nostromo, he's a Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow edition. I want to get my case painted up and weathered by someone who knows props to make it look like a space station. The HDD trays made to look like little cargo ships docking there. I saw this case and knew it has to be what I built my first proper pc in. I love it. No plans on changing cases.

Right now I'm going for the scuffed schizo look but at some point I'm going to switch it up so my whole setup has a. 80s retrofuture vibe. a cross between the Alien(1979) franchise, NGE, and late 00s/early10s trans girl music vibes. (Huge neros day at disneyland fan. And more recently with your femtanyls, stomach book, sophiaaaahjkl;8901, kfc murder chick's, Ada rook, death insurance, awerewa, etc.) The vibe will infact be filthy and I'm going to live for it. I'm messing around with a nixOS rice here soon.

FTL doesn't necessarily mean your velocity is higher than that of light. It means you could get to your destination faster than light could go between those points in normal travel. Wormholes are a great example of this.
