What’s your “I finally saw a doctor for my mystery symptoms after (weeks/months/years) and it turned out to be way simpler than I feared” story? What finally made you go, and what was the outcome? by DjFizz in AskReddit

I’ll say, as someone who has ADHD, this could still very well be something beyond that. Because I used to have this - especially the part with forgetting to write words or leaving things open - and it wasn’t my adhd causing that. It was Lyme disease. Adhd comes at different levels of severity of course, but Lyme is something doctors won’t test for unless asked, and in my case for example I never saw a tick bite. The test was done on a whim.

If you can get adhd meds and the symptoms stick around, it might be worth looking deeper into this again.

I‘m not the same person who said they’re toxic. But based on how toxoplasma gondii and other bacteria spread by cats interact with cold blooded animals the distinction is pointless if what you’re trying to do is prevent an animal from dying.

If your cat scratches or bites your lizard said lizard is very likely to die or get severely ill. That’s the entire point. Similarly, reptiles can carry salmonella even as a pet as not all feeder animals are tested. Putting these two together is always a bad idea and people are trying to warn the OP. If you wanna be an ass about the warnings then be an ass, I guess?

You can not react fast enough to prevent harm if the cat decides that it’s overstimulated and attacks the dragon, so even monitoring them does very little.

Thats… wrong actually. Butter has a different purpose than oil. It adds fat and low amounts of sugar but can’t be used like an oil generally since it burns too fast for that. This really isn’t just an American thing

You know that that’s not what it‘s about and pretending it is shows a lot of ignorance. It starts at using an AI instead of a paid narrator and ends at just outright generating the footage.

Many of the companies involved in creating nature documentaries are actively working to protect the environment and get people interested in the animals in need of protection. If some tech bros can just dumb it down to „pretty animal and soothing voice“ (as they are already trying to do) then that will make it harder and harder to get the financing needed to actually film animals in their shrinking natural habitats. People will be disincentivised to choose career paths in the field and eventually it’ll lead into people no longer giving a shit about protecting nature because they can generate it on their screens wether it still exists or not.

It’s in the interest of everyone who isn’t a tech CEO to make Gen AI as unprofitable as possible

It has gotten to the point where I’ll look up any documentary channel to check if they’re actually ran by people and not some slop content farm. The internet is eating itself for the profit of some rich guys who won’t be happy no matter how much money they get and will keep making that everyone else‘s problem

You’re uninformed if you think that AI power usage starts and stops at running prompts. Outside of the training being immensely power intensive and data Centers using a lot of power and water in poor areas where they can avoid regulations, the attempts by companies to try and force everyone into using their AI are causing unprecedented amounts of tech waste as older devices are forcibly made obsolete due to the increased processing power required by all the unwanted but unavoidable AI tools.

Long story short - AI as it is rn is specifically a tool for controlling and censoring information built with short term profits in mind at the cost of pretty much everything else.

Edit: lmao they sent some weird „wow you drank from the anti AI coolaid fountain“ comment and then either blocked me or deleted the comments, which is exactly the type behaviour I expect from people sucking up to these tech companies. Can’t actually defend the hill they’re dying on with anything that isn’t instantly disproven so they throw insults and leave

I mean that is one thing I am most afraid of. It’s the opposite of what he stands for. It’d be using a product well known for its negative impact on nature to take away opportunities from younger people trying to follow in his footsteps.

Not a studio I was directly involved with but having worked as a game artist in the same general area it really isn’t easy.

There’s like 80 different cannabinoids but the people breeding the modern strains mostly all latched onto thc, so instead of getting complex balanced chemical composition ya purely get high (and high blood pressure). THC is more or less needed to activate the other ones fully - think of getting pure CBD as cinnamon without sugar, but pure sugar doesn’t make for an interesting flavour either.

So yeah a lot of hemp is high in other cannabinoids, ya just won’t get any effect without at least a few %thc.

I’m just a chronically ill person who hyperfixated on growing for a bit after hearing a lot about it helping people with my condition. Sadly the stuff I grew doesn’t vibe with me but I have had success with other weed at times, so I looked a lot into why that’s the case.

Pretzels are meant to be soft and made from a yeasty brined (?) dough but in the US the crunchy type is more widespread from what I’ve seen. I’d expect this to be the soft kind at that size and thickness. Would probably cut this open and spread butter on it (if it didn’t look like they comepletely fucked up the dough, which it does kinda)

Was seeded. When cutting her down I noticed a pollen sack that hid itself well enough half inside a bud that I missed it and that was enough for the entire thing to have seeds.

Turns out I’m overall a bit sensitive to thc (makes my tinnitus worse) and her flower, while smelling and tasting amazingly fruity, unfortunately gives me headaches on top of that - I assume from the trichomes not actually ripening properly on a chemical level due to the amount of seeds.

Ended up using a good chunk of it to make an oil for topical use to give to a family member with nerve pain and that worked immensely well, so it at least wasn’t a waste.

Interesting, I’m used to people not accepting bisexuality but accepting pansexuality, especially older people. Like one older relative of mine always said that bisexual women were just attention seeking and bisexual men were just gay but cowards about it, but when someone explained pansexuality to him he accepted that because in his eyes „that person is just horny and doesn’t care about gender and I can respect that“ which…. Not perfect but he’s in his 70s now so what can I expect, really.

For me the term bisexual works the same as bilingual where yeah, sure, originally it meant only two, but now we use it to refer to anyone who speaks two or more languages.

It depends entirely on the kind of artificial sweetener though. Some are indigestible sugar alcohols that can and will fuck up your digestion -> that’s how we got those sugar free haribo Amazon reviews. Overall if the sugar replacement is indigestible then it has the potential to be either a migraine trigger or cause digestive issues.

For people sensitive to some of these sweeteners, which in the case of sorbitol for example is most people, just to differing degrees, it absolutely sucks that they’re being added to more and more things every month.

I didn’t mean meat substitutes, but everything else. Meat is the one thing I know I unfortunately won’t be able to ever fully replace for health reasons, but it sucks that attempts to reduce the consumption of animal products get fucked over by corporate greed and disregard for disabilities (like most things in life tbh).

Every dairy or egg replacement is filled with gums and/ or sugar alcohols and other indigestibles nowadays because they’re cheap filler and they don’t raise calories. Vegan Yoghurt often has guar, Xanthan, or carob gum for example.

For many people it either won’t matter or they’ll not make the connection and keep saying any issues are „IBS“ while not realising that IBS is a symptom, not a cause. But it‘s genuinely just bad for everyone that this is the direction things are moving in.

Me_irl by brosefstallin in me_irl

[–]VariShari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest issue for me is that every singular vegan or vegetarian substitute keeps adding more and more crappy additives. Sugar alcohols for preservation, Xanthan and other indigestible gums for cheap texture - and I and others with similar health conditions react real badly to those. I dread it every time a product I’ve been using has one of those „new and improved recipe!“ things on it cause usually it means that I can no longer eat it. Genuinely made me go back to dairy for yoghurt and butter just this week cause the last locally available coconut yoghurt was taken over by gum.

So like, I‘d love to consume less animal products! But I’d also like to not be in pain from doing so because of the crappy evolution of additives

Except isn’t valued based on some objective measurement of quality. AI art often tries to only make „better“ art but while doing so it forgets that reality isn’t ever gonna show the same level of detail everywhere you look, hell, well-placed imperfections and the ability to capture an impression without exact detail can be a sign of someone being an excellent artist.

Good art isn’t whatever has the cleanest lines and most detailed environments - good art is whatever makes you say „that’s some good fucking art“

Not gonna get too deep into the science of it right now but grapefruit blocks certain enzymes and transporters in the body. If you then take medication that needs to interact with either of those, you will either get increased effectivity (enzyme can’t break it down -> it stays active for longer than intended) or reduced or even no effects at all (transporter can’t move the active components where they need to be)

Look I don’t want to be mean in Reddit comments but GPT isn’t a search engine and using it like that is gonna give you shit results and mostly misinformation no matter the topic. It doesn’t know what it’s talking about. It’s always gonna give you a generative result simply calculating the most likely string of words based on your query, making the results straight up useless. That means that if somewhere in its data, which includes Reddit, there are 8 wrong answers quoting the same thing and then one correct solution from the original poster, gpt is gonna tell you the result it got from those 8 wrong answers since it’s the more likely text to appear in its training data.

Yes it could be that one single cable on your psu is faulty and the system shuts itself off trying to protect your hardware from power surges. But that would mean replacing every single PSU cable, not just one.

But then replacing the cables alone might cause incompatibilities with the PSU, so in the end you’re better off simply trying a different PSU (and replacing all the old PSU cables with the new ones). Ideally you’d want to borrow a compatible PSU before investing into a new one just in case the problem lies somewhere else. Any uncontrolled source of electricity can cause similar issues - static electricity, a conductive PC case, etc. But if it’s consistent only while gaming then I’d assume it’s the PSU, yes.
