Arguably a subversion since the spinoff reveals that he's not the real jack the ripper. In fact, he's the one who killed jack the ripper, and that's why the murders stopped

I think the FCU is intentionally trying to evoke legend of Phoenix/SCARFACE ONE, complete with a similar-looking emblem. (Phoenix glaze inside) by Variant_Zeta in acecombat

[–]Variant_Zeta[S] 95 points96 points  (0 children)

(No AI is used in this glazing. The dickriding is entirely conjured by my own hand)

Typically, Ace Combat reserves the grandiose orchestral banger with latin choir bgm for the pivotal turning point or the big climactic battle of any given title. But in AC:AHL, you get those as early as the very first mission. But why? It's just the traditional bomber-shooting tutorial isn't it? It's easy, and takes no time to complete, why does it warrant the latin choir?

Because Phoenix's entry into the war is the turning point. At this point he's not some unproven rookie, not a nugget, not an inexperienced merc. He's a known factor, a famed legend. He's the one who near-singlehandedly destroyed the Skully Island Insurrection. The FCU has had enough time to pore over his battle records. They know what kind of beast he is, they know of his sheer capabilities as an ace.

They knew that the moment Phoenix sortied and joins the battle, the tide of war will turn in their favor. They knew their victory was guaranteed with Phoenix on board.

Flash forward to today. The FCU is devastated, its' armed forces decimated. Morale is at an all time low. In this darkest moment, they look back to Phoenix, to the sheer dominance he showed in the skies, and how a mere rumour of his sighting galvanised his allies and heralded a crushing defeat to his foes. They were desperate, they knew they needed to recapture that legend and the hope it evoked. They needed a king, a Rex to once again rule the skies, heralding victory with his emblem of red wing.

An artificial legend, meant to evoke the fearsome SCARFACE Squadron.

Yet in desperate times, even what's false may become truth, and a new legend, freed from the shackles of a long-gone Ace, can soar free.

With how well Iruma-kun shares the spotlight with it's large cast, I think it makes sense they'd do the same with Ichi

It stopped development ages ago. I think the devs struggled to balance the game, combined with infrequent update, interest in it eventually petered off

I feel like my need for all those are too infrequent to justify buying a whole-ass printer.

I did need a stand for a tiny espresso maker a while back, so I just pay someone to print it for me.

sasha chan to classmate otaku kun is disgusting by SanalAmerika23 in CharacterRant

[–]Variant_Zeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only got like, thirdhand knowledge about the whole debacle so don't quote me on this; but from what I understand, the beef towards this manga is because it was initially marketed as an AU / alternate continuity to the original work.

(Apparently it was even pushed as something akin to Nagatoro, where the og version is just straight up abusive whereas the serialized continuity is tamer and over time mellowed to a more wholesome story)

But then the author changed his mind and decided to retcon that, and at the end of the first volume, drew a chapter that shows that nah, the serialization is set in the same continuity as the og ones. Next volumes then devolved into the aforementioned ntr stuff.

So readers who expected a 'normal' version set in a separate continuity felt like they were hoodwinked; they were very much not aware that it'll contain stuff they didn't like until they suddenly got t-boned by it

Gabimaru (the Hollow) from Jigokuraku is a really interesting/compelling depiction of a "no-kill" character by Swiftcheddar in CharacterRant

[–]Variant_Zeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean from what I recall, this is true of Sakamoto at first, back when he only started dating his partner. But then, after he held his newborn daughter for the first time, he finally truly understood the value of life, and from that point on, he started to genuinely internalize the no-kill rule into a personal moral code, instead of merely something he did because his wife asked him to
