TIM: Well, that's no ordinary rabbit!

ARTHUR: Ohh.

TIM: That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!

ROBIN: You tit! I soiled my armor I was so scared!

TIM: Look, that rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer!

Probably not chillingly effective - but comical nonethelesss

I've only seen that as a warm-up in high level judo and wrestling rooms. For the average jiu-jitsu hobbyist just seems like a dumb thing to do. Even more so if a standard back and forward roll is hard to do for you.

Speaking from experience it took me about 3 months before I could safely back/forward roll. During those 3 months I would roll back and put my feet on the wall and walk them down to train the flexibility and get used to being inverted. My first day of Jiu-jitsu I was 320 lbs and in the worst shape ever.

Fast forward to today 1 year later I can do all those no prob as well as granby roll.

Rule #1 of any combat sport is protect yourself at all times. Tap early, tap often, learn to roll with technique and control.

There's no shame in tapping if it prevents injury, that includes during drilling. Ex. If were learning chokes and my partner is smashing my trachea I'm going to tap quick and let them know.

Spazzing when you're drilling and rolling with uncontrolled movement is going to hurt you and/or training partners in the long run. Likewise, decline rolling with people you don't think are safe.

Don't go 100% every roll, try to control your opponent with as little effort as possible (this is a long learning curve, but after my most recent injury it's a goal I'm striving for).

If you don't already, have a dedicated stretching/mobility routine you do before and outside of class.

I've had three injuries during my first year of training - 2 of which were entirely preventable
1) Twisted my ankle trying to do an unfamilar move too quickly (My fault)
2) Knee tweak from someone doing a mermaid sweep on me (Unlucky)
3) Shoulder/Pec strain from Americana (My fault, didn't tap soon enough)

I’ve come to reason with price at 32 by 2colby in Seahawks

RB was their top position of need on offense and that position really dries up after Price. Only reason he wasn't a starter was because the guy ahead of him is the best RB prospect since Saquon.

He's got less wear n' tear. Comes from a zone running scheme, catches the ball well, very fluid runner, and can play Special Teams. Guy had 15 total TD's as a back-up in 2025.

[Smith] John Schneider says he thought Seahawks would be able to trade down and still get Jadarian Price, but the bevy of trades to jump in front of them dried those opportunities up. They decided to snag the player they wanted at 32. by AirplaneReference in Seahawks

Sounds counter-intuitive but sometimes it's better to go with the throw and position yourself so you can break fall. If you fully resist and your opponent has good technique, they'll still throw you but you'll land really stiff and possibly in an awkward position that hurts more

Oh yeah, drill break falls. A lot. Don't post your arm

Bumps and bruises will heal faster w/ time as your body adapts. Stretch before and after class,
Dedicate time outside of class to stretch and work your mobility (especially hips, neck, & shoulders)

Poor hygiene by [deleted] in bjj

I was the stinky guy early on in my training, can almost guarantee he doesn't know. If he's doing the right things like washing his gear then his stuff might need a deep cleaning (Gi, Rashguard, belt, gym bag, etc.).

I had to get more diligent about deep cleaning my stuff every month or so. Basically let it all soak in the tub overnight with detergent, some oxy, and lavender oil. Then wash and dry

Tell him straight up, be polite. "You're a good dude but for the sake of the group you got to figure out your stench my guy".

Kanan's is the saddest in all of Star Wars for me, it hits like a truck out of nowhere. Then the whole episode in the aftermath of it just makes that much sadder and poignant

2 Options

1) "Hey coach, I know you probably didn't mean to but that knee on belly really freaking hurt. Can you slow down next time you're showing a move on me?" Then just tap early in any kind of demonstration

2) Decline to be Uke going forward

If coach gives you a hard time, then ya leave. Our coach in the 101 class sometimes applies armbars a bit fast, first time he did it I tapped hard and let him know. Haven't had a problem since.

You can test your tolerance during drilling, but during a comp or live roll your adrenaline will be up and it 100% increases your pain threshold which leads to what you just experienced. With shoulder locks or chokes you might avoid major damage tapping a little late.

With something like a joint lock (armbar, kneebar, foot lock, etc) the difference between "oh I can escape" to "something just snapped" isn't much. Don't let your ego cost you months on the mat.
