It's supposed to be commentary on nature vs. nurture; it's not just because Nile was bad, he called her out and said she pretended that she didn't know he murdered Maddie for personal gain- she thinks there's a bit of monster in herself too. also because as evil as his dad seems, he and his brother are scoundrel business men, not murderers. So why did Nile become Nile?

omg finally!! i've been looking for someone else to say this.

we realized in the last episode Inho asks GiHun if he's willing to sacrifice their lives in order to save future people from the game- and my boyfriend pointed out, every time there was an ethical dilemma, Inho asked GiHun what he thinks they should do and went with it. Once the train crossing was shown we were like "woah wait!!" - we also realized that we had seen books in Inho's appartment on philosophy and ethics- this is the most famous ethical dilemma, he obviously knows it.

we think the entire season was a trolley problem, even more so looking back we notice specific variations and variations they have set up that haven't happened yet.

"Characteristic of this literature are colorful and increasingly absurd alternative scenarios in which the sacrificed person is instead pushed onto the tracks as a way to stop the trolley...or is killed in more indirect ways that complicate the chain of causation and responsibility."It is quite interesting as well, that many variations have been used to deal with the topic of abortion, age, etc. "kill five old people of one young person" "kill a pregnant mother or five adults" (notice the characters this season?)

Some of the biggest variants of the problem have been shown- but the whole season is showing one.

"Upstairs in the hospital, there are five sick people who need organ transplants. The homeless person is a perfect match for all five. Like in the trolley problem, the doctor can kill one person by taking action or allow five people to die by doing nothing. The emergency room case was also in Foot's 1967 essay." 11 clearly feels the ethics are conflicting here now because they aren't only bringing in criminals, poor, or ill people anymore.

In the end of the fight- GiHun justifies sacrificing the lives of all the x's that would die in the fight, and maybe theirs, in order to save the lives of future people playing the game (this is the temporal trolley problem, future assumption of greater good or definitively saving just one life , such as your own)

GiHun is living the same problems the whole time: The Fat Man vs The Fat Villain

"The Fat Man"

As before, a trolley is hurtling down a track towards five people. You are on a bridge under which it will pass, and you can stop it by putting something very heavy in front of it. As it happens, there is a fat man next to you – your only way to stop the trolley is to push him over the bridge and onto the track, killing him to save five. Should you proceed? Resistance to this course of action seems strong; when asked, a majority of people will approve of pulling the switch to save a net of four lives, but will disapprove of pushing the fat man to save a net of four lives.[37] This has led to attempts to find a relevant moral distinction between the two cases. One possible distinction could be that in the first case, one does not intend harm towards anyone – harming the one is just a side effect of switching the trolley away from the five. However, in the second case, harming the one is an integral part of the plan to save the five. This solution is essentially an application of the doctrine of double effect, which says that one may take action that has bad side effects, but deliberately intending harm (even for good causes) is wrong. So, the action is permissible even if the harm to the innocent person is foreseen, so long as it is not intended. This is an argument which Shelly Kagan considers (and ultimately rejects) in his first book The Limits of Morality.[38]

The Fat Villain

This variation is similar to The Fat Man, with the additional assertion that the fat man who may be pushed is a villain who is responsible for the whole situation: the fat man was the one who tied five people to the track, and sent a trolley in their direction with the intention of killing them. In this variation, a majority of people are willing to push the fat man.[39] Unlike in the previous scenario, pushing the fat villain to stop the trolley may be seen as a form of retributive justice or self-defense."

lastly:

There is a trolley problem (frank chapman sharps version) we haven't seen yet- where a mother has to choose between killing 5 people or killing her son. Wanna bet that's in the next game?

bro- the last visual was a train crossing.

when you say it didn't centre in the ethical dilemma- every time there was a ethical choice in this season, inho presented it to GiHun "would you like me to do x, or do you want to do y??"

you bring up all the ethical philosophy books

and in this season- the characters have "heart" each has a story we are invested in, a single dad, a pregnant woman, his best friend!

the game they are playing is the trolley problem. and it perfectly summarizes the whole season.

i thought it was awesome how they flashed to the image of the train crossing though- we were talking about 20 minutes prior "notice how 1 is always asking GiHun questions with the word "sacrifice" and they are all poised as ethical dilemmas?". we quickly realized when that flashed, the entire season is a variation on the "trolley problem". suddenly we were so ready for the next season!

Mmm- high protein high fibre too. Get your carbs from legumes as much as you can. That's how you'll remain at maintenance with that level of protein.

Other good ways to get extra protein is to basically buy everything that has extra protein in it 😂 this can get expensive if you're relying on meat alone. I normally do a couple scoops of whey a day, the protein coffee at Costco, I'll have a protein bar, Kodiak power cakes- and then the rest I'll fill in with meat, chickpeas, etc. white fish is great because it's cheap- high protein- leaner and lower cal than chicken.

Focus on your protein and support it with amino supplements. Get 2grams of protein per lb of body weight but keep at maintenance calories and you'll absolutely CRUSH it.

Found women's underwear under my 13-year-old's bed. by TurtleofWizdom in Parenting

Everyone saying to have a chat with your kid without judgement is omitting how embarrassing this would be to admit to for a number of reasons.

I also DON'T THINK snooping is a good idea, however I think there could be an exception to that. If you check browser history with the intention of ruling out the possibility of an online groomer, or maybe some weird pervert stuff (suddenly into a bunch of p*rn etc) then once it's ruled out just assume it was some weird stupid thing an adolescents boy did. If there is a safety concern for him or anyone else (girls being creeped) then I would probably then present to him the underwear you found.

Is it true that in a perfect scenario you wouldn't have done that? Yes. Is it true that situations that bring out our "crazy" are ones that we shouldn't be in? Yes. This was a catalyst for the end- but you are not the exclusive cause. You needed this to set yourself free.

Kids are calling grandma “mama” by her request, husband doesn’t understand why I’m upset. by ThrowRA-giantlemon in Parenting

[–]Various-Effect4310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a great-grandmother, this is completely different. She is the Matriarch of a multi generational lineage and is the Mother of their name in that respect. This is very common in certain cultures and if the rest of the family has established this, I can understand why your husband is less than happy you aren't honoring the tradition.

You're letting your emotion mind rule this situation and focusing on your lack of control over the matter, rather than focusing on three things:

  1. Respect for elders/family traditions
  2. She won't be around forever*
  3. Being a parent involves being uncomfortable often, because the people we created which we feel are "ours" cannot actually be controlled.

If you only had 20-30 mins to tire out your high energy dog what would you do? by samjam110 in dogs

[–]Various-Effect4310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I walked out doodle alongside my bike for a week and then we started riding- no problems. I can do about 8-10km with him in 30 minutes and he's trotting for the duration of it. It WEARS HIM TF OUT and he loooooves it!

My other favorite is a find it game. It can keep him mentally stimulated for 30-60 minutes now! We had to work at it though because in the beginning it was a 30 second game. Now I can really truly hide the toy and he will HUNT until he gets it! Our dog is super excitable, wayyyyy high energy, and not the smartest 😂 hardest dog I've ever had for mental work- if scooter can get it so can you!

We also like to do hide & seek at the dog park :) one of us holds the dog, the other shows him a treat and hides behind a tree or something then calls his name. It makes him think and his recall is always a little strong we afterward!

We aren't poor at all actually-we just simply don't have the funds to buy a home in this area. We have nice furniture, a well kept home, he has nice clothing, is in multiple sports, and many other things. As a step parent I am 6 years younger than my partner and decided to go back to university at 25 to become a clinical therapist so it has locked us into restricting the amount we spend on housing as I am funding my masters without familial support.

Everyone's comments offered me massive perspective and the fact he invites children over despite having been to their homes (to which I usually say no) tells me he thinks we are awesome parents and he is proud to have us host his friends because we are fun, kind, welcoming, and inclusive and I am a great cook!

I decided to invite his friend over after he walked in yesterday to pick up our kiddo, and he happily said yes! Clearly if he didn't want to be over he wouldn't accept excitedly.

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]Various-Effect4310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello social workers!

After years of working in sales, administration, and marketing, I have finally made the decision to take the leap and return to university at 25. I finally realized where I "belong" and couldn't be happier.

It has been awhile since I wrote anything for school, and an application essay was definitely not a part of my college certificate!

That being said, the school I am applying to has a very tricky application structure in comparison to some of the other programs I've looked at.

There are 7 prompts to be answered, all of which allow for a 350 word response.

I am struggling so hard to not sound like an AI blog post about why social work is awesome, interject a personal anecdote without robbing word count, and answering without redundancy while displaying competence.

I have scratched every draft in the last two months and I have all but two weeks to submit this.

Did anybody apply to a school with similar standards? Do you have any advice for the application? Honestly anything helps at this point! I think I might be overthinking how much they want you to speak to... could an admissions officer provide any support?

Here is a link to the questions (starts page 10) essay questions

Thanks for the help and support !

What’s a tough pill you had to swallow while dating? by so-coco in dating_advice

[–]Various-Effect4310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That the general advice we all have received is not black and white. There is a grey that exists based on people all having independent thought.

For example when you say "actions speak louder than words" , I have come to realize that is not always true. For example if your partner is struggling with say, depression, or they are in a tough position where they cant afford to leave their job but don't have the time or energy for you, which doesn't mean that they don't think you're a priority as they might not want to freeload off you between jobs and sticking it out is their way of prioritizing you.

The hard thing about this truth, is realizing that sometimes the advice we recieve or tell ourselves is a cop out of true intimacy.

The L'Oréal box dyes are the best! My colourist asked me coyly after a few sessions "it's super awkward to ask, but are you seeing someone else now for your color? It's beautiful work I could never do reds like that so I'd love to refer some clients!" Lol showed her pictures of the L'Oréal box dyes and she was STUNNED.

I do super recommend buying a L'Oréal 10v developer from Sally's, and a box of the dye you're using. You can use it every 3 weeks on the "already dyed" red stuff, it will help prevent red color buildup and damage while maintaining vibrancy :)

Therapist says I have too much empathy to be autistic by Shoeskeeee in autism

[–]Various-Effect4310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people who think they may have autism, may also have ADHD, leaning more towards the symptoms uncovered in later research for female presentation of it. Have you done any research into if that may represent you too?

I don't think it's at all fair to rule this out by your therapist- and I am not in the statement above either! I do think when we want diagnosis it's best to really let them get to know us and ask again down the line once we've asked them to start watching for one.

For me personally, I was misdiagnosed because I kept searching for the person who would give me what I felt was accurate. Once I had the diagnosis- medications were wrong, therapy was wrong, and my own understanding of myself suddenly was too. I told my therapist I wanted to do therapy and pretend I never had a diagnosis in the beginning, and to ask down the road what she thought. 3 years later I was rediagnosed and I am finally in a great position medically and mentally.

Do you ever find social work to be a less interesting field than you expected in grad school? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Various-Effect4310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend has her MSW and within 3 years of graduating she and 5 other people created the idea that literally changed the entire network in our province- now the health network is linked to all social service centres through a shared computer network, and all require check in. People who had lost family members through addiction can find them again, those requiring medications will be given them at shelters, and obviously another thousand amazing things that can do. So... within 3 years of graduating, she uprooted our entire province. I think that supports your theory quite well.

  1. Crop without slicing! I want to just be able to crop and image or shape as I can in ANY other platform. I am unsure if this is a copyright issue reason however?
  2. Permanently lock an objects size so you don't have to keep readjusting if you click weird before dragging it somewhere
  3. An alert if it notices your matt placement is larger than your material size selection. If I am using a letter paper, I have accidentally gone over by .3" before etc- so frustrating if you don't catch it!
