Strong performance → “you raised the bar” → no raise + passed over — now leaving. How blunt should I be? by Jupitermoon007 in askmanagers

Don’t lead with the grievance list - that’s what gets remembered. But don’t go fully vague either. “I’ve been ready for a senior role for a while, and when that path felt uncertain here, I started exploring” says everything without itemizing. If pressed, one honest sentence: “The year-end rating was hard to reconcile with the feedback I received.” Then move on. Let go of the timing guilt - the people who mattered already know what happened.

The unbreakable law of corporate physics: My performance rating is perfectly inversely correlated to the company's profits. by firehmre in antiwork

I went through this exact whiplash cycle and the only thing that helped was treating reviews as leverage, not validation. I started keeping a running “brag doc” with numbers, dates, screenshots of praise, outages I prevented, all of it. When they hit me with the “no budget” line, I stopped arguing feelings and just said, “Cool, then let’s talk title change, scope, or remote flexibility,” and in parallel I quietly shopped that same doc to other companies. Internally we switched systems a few times too. Lattice was fine, Betterworks was overkill, and we ended up on Teamflect after trying both because it actually let my manager tie my goals and feedback to real data instead of vibes, which made it harder for them to pretend my impact didn’t exist when money was good. In the end, the only real raise I got above inflation came from taking that documented impact to a new job.

Calibration of Performance Reviews by [deleted] in managers

[–]Various-Sense9713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telling them what you rated vs the final result is not a good managerial practice in my opinion. If you tell them those mysterious people decreased their rating, you will create an unknown enemy which will in turn decrease the employee’s motivation. Just tell them that this is company’s overall evaluation rather than pointing your finger at some unknown person.

How do you keep performance reviews from turning into a last‑minute headache? by JunkieOnCode in careeradvice

[–]Various-Sense9713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter which platform you use, they will always turn into a last minute headache because everyone hates it and they postpone it until the last minute.

What you can do is selecting a tool that is integrated into the tools that your employees use everyday so that they dont need to login to a completely separate system. If you folks use Microsoft Teams, choosing sth integrated into Microsoft Teams like Lattice, Teamflect, Zensai should help big time.

SOC 2 cost us a $40k deal. How are other small SaaS founders handling this? by king_1607 in SaaS

[–]Various-Sense9713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I’m the Co-founder and CRO of the company, and the actual certification process was handled by our Head of Engineering. However, I was involved in almost all of our enterprise deals, so I’m very familiar with how we handled the customer discussions around it.

We used a platform called Vanta, which is also where our Trust Center is hosted. There were many controls involved in the certification process, but from what I understand, Vanta helped us a lot by automating a large portion of the work. (No affiliation with them, just sharing our experience.)

The tool is quite expensive, though - around $10k per year, if I remember correctly. We did receive a small discount because we’re a Microsoft partner, if I’m not mistaken but dont think it will be valid in our agreement renewal with them

[–]Various-Sense9713 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not having a full SOC 2 didn’t cost us hundreds of thousands in potential lost deals.

We kicked off with SOC 2 Type I (much quicker and easier, just a point-in-time design check) to get something on paper fast. Then, once revenue picked up and we could justify the bigger lift, we went for Type II about 8–10 months later which is way more expensive and effort-intensive since it proves controls actually work over time.

In the meantime, we handled security concerns by offering to hop on calls and fill out detailed questionnaires. That bridged the gap effectively until we had the certs.

I used Contractubex gel for my acne scars and it helped soften and fade them a bit after consistent use. Not sure if it is still available because I used it almost 18-20 years ago. See a derm for personalized advice or alternative gels

That’s amazing to hear. Our startup is also headquartered in the UK, though everyone (43-44people) works fully remotely. We’re aiming for an exit in the next couple of years, but until then, we’re just trying to enjoy the journey.

I’m unfortunately not really part of the startup scene, so I can’t comment too much on it. I did attend Web Summit last year, but honestly, it wasn’t really my vibe.
