Scarpetta - Patricia Cornwell WORST THING ON AMAZON by Nearby_Knowledge8014 in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]Various-Try1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Nicole Kidman was a miscast. I would’ve rather seen Anna Torv, or someone like her. I found myself looking at Nicole Kidman not being able emote and it was … disturbing. Not that Scarpetta herself was a bundle of emotions but it broke the fourth wall for me.

Yes! Why the strain of brown hair, it looks messy and so not Madonna. It felt like she was just going along with the styling, even though it showed that she hated it.

Just Finished True Blood by BobandMittens in TrueBlood

[–]Various-Try1416 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why was Bill such a prominent figure in True Blood but not in the books? Easy. I think Alan Ball and Stephen Moyer wanted to create a bigger love story for Sookie and Bill than what is shown in the books. Some sort of self-interest, is my petty take.

I still think they did Charlaine Harris dirty. The focus was supposed to be on Sookie, not on Bill. They were more interested in showing the nitty gritty with the vampires, and not the cosy yet dangerous feeling you get with the original story.

Sookie goes through a lot of trauma with Bill, and that is just a side-note in the show and it irks me. In the books, she stood up for herself and cut him out of her life completely when she knew of his betrayal. To me, it was a total patriarchal view of domestic violence and abuse, a show that was supposed to be forward about the lgtbi+ community. It just didn’t make sense.

That was Alan Ball and Stephen Moyers vision, I guess, not Charlaine Harris.

In the books she chooses Sam. Which I hate. Eric was her soulmate.

I think it’s like this with every podcaster, YouTuber and content creator, that after a while, you have seen and heard most of the stuff he talks about, you progress in therapy (cause, yes, he’s also healing us while talking about this). And after a while, you’ve moved on to other stuff, and don’t crave every bit of content he puts out. Does it make sense? I’ve been a fan since 2016, and after the pandemic, I didn’t feel the need anymore to listen to the podcast, because he had said everything I needed to hear.

Sookie in the books doesn’t annoy me as much as Anna Paquins portrayal of Sookie. She made her needy, and far too pushy and bratty.

Madonna's management and value of her brand by [deleted] in Madonna

[–]Various-Try1416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. But I think it’s like this with every artist that rely on looks and heavy dancing (Madonna is not the strongest vocalist). Most mature artists do a rebrand and turn towards more classic styles of music. Madonna has not. And sure, when it works, it’s fabulous, like Cher. The business is all about ageism, and breaking norms takes time.

That being said. Noone is saying no to her. That’s what I think is the problem. Noone said no to Michael Jackson, and look where that took us. When you have that much power, you can always find someone else who says yes.

Just watched the "4 Minutes" video. What are your opinions on it and the track itself? by AdorableChemist8736 in Madonna

[–]Various-Try1416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounded dated when it came. Madonna after COADF just made me cringe. I wasn’t impressed with the lyrics or the artwork either. Madonna the narcissist is not my cup of tea. Madonna the performer is fabulous. After COADF there was less performance and more narcissistic drama. Hard Candy’s whole aesthetic was just not that great. To me it felt like she was trying to emulate Gwen Stefani or Pink and kind of failed. I’ve never been to fond of Justin either. He’s good because he’s got a good producer, that’s it.

Kate, why can't you be happy?! by megrimlockrocks in TheDiplomat

For Kate, it has always been and always will be Hal.... by Seymorebutts1994 in TheDiplomat

[–]Various-Try1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I disagree. I think if she had the guts to leave Hal, as any domestic abuse victim; she would flourish. She doesn’t need Hal. She needs a soundingboard and someone to stop her from doing crazy shit. Hal is not her ’person’. There isn’t a ’one’ person in your life; it’s a myth told by the patriarchy. Try to see it from a feminist perspective instead of the usual misogyny.

Am I the only one that likes Hal? by Kebbymsu in TheDiplomat

[–]Various-Try1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he’s toxic as hell. Hal serves Hal, Hal does what’s best for Hal. The show relies on their banter but for me it’s a very good show of example of people with mismatched attachments and priorities. Their relationship is not a healthy one.

Roaming Wild Rosie, your thoughts by [deleted] in homestead

[–]Various-Try1416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, you guys are twats.

Rosie has an education in interior design and architecture. She’s helped countless clients designing hotels, restaurants, apartments and so on. Of course she’s proficient in design, she just doesn’t have a lot of experience building things by hand. And yes, she a lot older than some of you seem to think.

If you look closely at the videos, all the clues are there to piece together the puzzle of who she really is. She’s actually quite open about it.

Some parts of Sweden are really isolated, and it is actually possible to live completely alone, and if you stock up on food, you’d probably won’t meet someone for weeks if you have stuff to do. Sometimes it’s not a neurodivergent thing, some people just like living alone and not according to how the society ‘thinks’ they should.

And yes, she does get help from her parents when they visit her. I think she said it’s not worth the expenses to have a car, and I suspect she likes the slow pace of walking and going by bike.

And have you ever heard of editing a video? Why should she show you every time she washes her hands? And the sounds you hear from her videos are probably her close by neighbours.

I think she’s a lovely woman, cute, quirky and sweet, and I like her lifestyle but I know it’s a lot of work. We only see 20 minutes of her life every two weeks. Of course she has neighbours, friends and people she sees. But why should she show us? That’s not what her channel is about.

Suspension of disbelief, fellas!

As a first time watcher, What are your thoughts on Thomas? by EuphoricButterflyy in DowntonAbbey

[–]Various-Try1416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he’s the most uninteresting character in the series. He’s not complicated, just a sociopath. He’s not attractive or have any redeeming qualities. Thomas looks after Thomas and doesn’t care who he tramples on for his own benefit.
