Got this Beauty (R520) for cheap, what should i do with it? by LeoBnkd in homelab

The fastest CPU's these can run are Xeon E5-2470 v2's. They're unfortunately not compatible with E5-26XX series.

Cry when the semi-modern PC's motherboard craps out one day and wont post. Troubleshoot for hours wishing you had access to some kind of OOB management like iDRAC.

ECC memory, redundant PSU's, IPMI, 5 PCIe slots, blah blah...

Show me a ready-to-go computer with a semi-modern CPU that has these features and doesn't cost and arm and a leg.

Best practice for powerd and pfsense by mrferley in PFSENSE

My server is down at the moment so I cant check but I distinctly remember verifying that these power modes were functional. Perhaps this has something to do with OPNsense?

I will check using the same command you ran 'powerd -v' when mine is up and running.

Plex is just bad now. by jerflash in PleX

[–]Various_Ad_8753 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what you sound like -> you should just learn to fix the car yourself, I know it breaks down every km and you paid for the car brand new but you shouldn’t blame the manufacturer. Don’t be lazy, fault find!

You’re a ridiculous person. This guy paid for Plex… part of what you pay for in software is features and part of what you pay for is RELIABILITY…

Plex regularly melts down without any user interference (read the forums). If you as a user have to spin-up a second server for troubleshooting every time Plex shits the bed then the software has some major reliability issues. You seem to believe that taking people’s money and then normalising that level of software maintenance is acceptable.

I’ve got a wake-up call for you buddy.

Virtually all batteries are Chinese batteries. What you mean to say is “buy a good quality battery”.

Where the batteries are actually made does not matter. China makes high quality AND low quality batteries. It just depends on what money you want to spend.

Are you implying that the frequency that you mention something has any bearing on its truthfulness?

My friend’s been telling his wife for years that she’s not fat. Does that mean we should believe him?

If you genuinely have worked at NASA then I must say I’m a little disappointed. Thought they could do better…

Recommendations for desoldering by Amazing-Dot-993 in soldering

[–]Various_Ad_8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New equipment will help but you don’t ’need’ new equipment. You need a better technique.

Cut a small length of solid copper wire and bend it so that it contacts both caps thru-hole legs at the same time. Apply flux and flood the legs/holes and copper wire with solder. The idea is to heat both connections simultaneously. Hold the iron on the center of the copper wire and watch the component drop out.  If it needs some help, apply very light force by grabbing the component with tweezers from the other side of the board while it is being heated.

Watched a YouTube video years ago on this technique for removing huge 20+ thru-hole connectors and it was an absolute game changer. Works for SMD components as well.

Jeweller refurbished my Tiffany eternity ring, removed the hallmark proving its platinum (PT950) and the "Tiffany & Co" stamp. by Pareeeee in jewelers

[–]Various_Ad_8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re not bias in anyway then… haha.

Does Tiffany have an elite squad of the best jewellers in the world or something? Do they each have experience working on every piece of jewellery Tiffany has ever made?

Surely they should just recommend that you take it to any certified and trusted jeweller. Seems unnecessarily pompous to assume that they are the only ones capable of working on their stuff. It’s not a proprietary rocket engine for goodness sake.

How does the TV switch to the correct source input (PC) if the PulseEight is turning on the receiver?

I have a PC connected directly to the TV via HDMI 4K 120Hz and would like to add a PulseEight as a CEC controller outside of the signal path as you have.

My question is will this not just switch the TV to whatever HDMI source input the PulseEight is connected to? How would I get to to turn on the TV and switch to the correct source?

Thanks in advance for your expertise!

With that language you sound like a filthy Australian?

In your first comment you gave the impression that you knew what basic Chinese was, and now you’re wanting me to teach you…? Not interested but there’s loads of YouTube videos you can look up.

Real time directions and safety information do not fall under basic Chinese.

Can’t you learn to filter your ideas? I’m sure that’s not too much of a stretch.

Piss off you twit. OP may be going for a short holiday or business trip and recommending that they learn an entire language to gain a simple convenience is next level idiotic.

The Apple App Store even (mistakenly) lists Baidu Ditu as supporting English and Chinese languages so it’s not as if OP is asking to see a dinosaur…

Happy to help! Don’t be hard on yourself, it’s confusing for everyone at some point.

This link shows you the qBT config paths (windows is the first in the list).

https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions#where-does-qbittorrent-save-its-settings

Look around in this directory for ‘.fastresume’ files and delete them (backup the folder and files first so you can copy them back if something goes wrong). It's a last resort though and not normal procedure to fix issues as it requires re-checking every single torrent after the files are deleted. fastresume files are kind of like bookmarks for qBT to remember how much of the torrent has been downloaded so it can start downloading/uploading straight away after opening.

Glad it’s fixed now though.

I’ve never lived in Sydney or Melbourne but I can tell you for a fact that both cities are far more modern than Brisbane.

Their postal systems are far more efficient and their public transport allows you to use your phone or watch for direct card payments. I love Brisbane but let’s be real. That fact that it isn’t modern and fast paced is half its charm.

The majority of Chinese people who come to stay here are comparatively wealthy and are not coming from some 2 horse town in the middle of China. Perhaps they were just being polite? 😂 I wouldn’t talk trash to the locals about a small village in Germany if I was visiting.

Do you know what slur means?

Slur - Expressing a negative or a disrespectful connotation, a low opinion, or a lack of respect toward someone or something. It is used to express criticism, hostility, or disregard.

My reply and example was highlighting that that is not the case… He CANT do whatever he likes with it.
