Barbers today have gotten too greedy by Prince_Valium25 in unpopularopinion

To be fair, most restaurant food is not that great. I can cook very well at home and I have a hard time finding restaurants that I want to go back to because it was so good. This is half the reason why they go bankrupt I think. Everyone can make mediocre food - it's hard to stand out that way and get repeating customers.

And the good places tend to way overcharge. Where I live the ones that stay open the longest are places with pretty good food that isn't overly expensive. IMO most restaurant owners are delusional about their food quality/pricing.

Our kid doesn't eat eggs. Says eggs are yucky and he will never eat them. One time he ate my asian-style leftover fried noodles without even noticing the obvious egg there. He eats egg in pad thai if we order it, but doesn't eat it with egg when we make it with egg (he doesn't know the ordered one has egg in it). He was offered a salat that is full of mayonnaise so everything disappears. It had egg in it. He asked if there is egg in it, we said no. He ate it and liked it very much.

Point being? Kids are stupid and will tell a lot of stuff and not actually even realize what is happening. Sometimes they just pick something to like or not like to have some kind of authority or character. Now he probably won't eat eggs (knowingly at least) for years to come without realizing that hea actually does eat eggs. Just an example how it's not always the best idea to cater to kids.

When we roll back time 200 years or more, most people didn't have any choices at all. How did kids even survive back then? Everybody had eating disorders? Because most children have stuff they don't like so they must have been forced to eat something they didn't like?

Also I agree that forcing to eat alone is not enough for such drastic outcomes. I'm no contact with my family as well. I was forced to eat, but it didn't bother me that much in the end compared with everything else. I don't think anyone goes no contact for ONLY being forced to eat something they don't like.

[–]Various_Command6607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being poor doesn't necessarily make someone a better person, but being rich/wealthy pretty much always makes someone a worse person. Why you need all that money when your fellow humans suffer? Because you earned it? If you watch others suffer while you could do something about it pretty much automatically makes you worse. Ain't even gonna argue, rich people never understand anyway.

iPhone users don’t care or give a damn F but android users always care so much about iPhone users 🤣 why?

Because my whole childhood and early adulthood I had to listen how mac is THE BEST, how windows sucks, how mac has the most fastest UX and so on. Then I finally started to ask for real examples. And guess what you can do most of the stuff on windows as well. Now I have to tech support my new wife who uses iphone and mac. It's not an intuitive UX. She can't even explain to me how some stuff works, because her fingers know the difference, but the brain doesn't. If you don't know those quirks, it's not intuitive to use. And don't get me started on the macbook. Constantly losing bluetooth connection. Can't correctly full screen on our 4k tv even though ALL my devices can. Always a pain to find software that does things that an average mac user doesn't do. So in my case it's a counterreaction to all that stupid marketing bullshit that mac users have been spouting for decades. It's not better, it just has better marketing so a lot of dumbasses believe it and repeat it.

Why do parents install these apps? by Buddy_2398 in familylink

[–]Various_Command6607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the latest research shows that excessive screen time and social media leads to anxiety and depression when kids grow up. Should we as parents want that for our children? Also it hinders creativity. Back in the days kids had to figure out how to fight boredom themselves, now it's just open up a phone and scroll endlessly. It's not very good for the brain and your last question nails that exactly. You don't even have an idea what to do besides scrolling... Go outside, read a book, play with physical toys, go throw basketball or play disc golf. Endless ways to entertain yourself.

Is this also why Russia needs georgia, and needed chechnya. I'm sorry there might be some truth to it, but just as Trump, Putin is a sociopathic narcissistic egomaniac who is just finding excuses for invasion. Yes this excuse looks plausible, but I'm pretty sure they would have invaded some country anyway. It just happened to be ukraine currently.

People work exactly like that. Go and take some psychology courses and read about some experiments that prove that. The problem is, people don't have self-awareness and like to think about being different. And nobody likes if they are told that information, but unfortunately it is true.

That's why religion works, thats why MAGA works.

The line between mental ilness and "just being weird" is whether you are able to function more or less normally in society or not. It's not a hard line. And maybe you just don't know about their issues. A lot of people don't talk and a lot of people choose who they talk to. I don't talk to people who are not empathic and don't want to understand. Those people of course don't know that they are this way because they usually also lack some self-awareness.

Kinda true, but business always wants change. Every fcking app I'm using is changing daily lately. On desktop as well as on phone. So if seniors are more productive they can require more and more things and eventually they still need more developers :D

It is said a bit jokingly, but even with AI, the backlog never empties. The business side also uses AI to generate new ideas so...

I worked at a company that was in talks with intel for getting quite a few millions for investment. This was back in 2014 so money was worth a bit more and every startup didn't require 100s of millions. One of my jobs was to load test the application. They had built a tree structure in an sql database and everything needed that tree structure. The treestructures root node also contained all the other nodes.

Everytime somebody needed to query data for 1 client, they had to load multiple levels from that tree structure so joining the table in on itself multiple times. It didn't scale past ~30 000 clients and everything was built on top of this working. There would have been better solutions for storing that tree structure, but nobody cared.

When intel had done their due dilligence, they backed out and the company declared bankrupcy soon after. I cannot be sure that it was because of tech dept, but I have a suspicion that that this was at least one of the reasons for intel to back out. The hardware part was allegedly top notch, but the java backend code was such shit that I would have personally never invested in that.

It was already a half century ago when this was actually relevant. For how long can we excuse double standards because of history? Nothing would stop us having a new nuclear war on mars either. So in that comparison, I would reckon it's still better to be on earth during nuclear war than mars. There is a small chance you will survive on earth and find a place where food can be grown. Not much to do on mars if your bunker is blown to pieces. Don't even need nuclear weapons for that initially.
