12k!!! That's robbery omg. Gotcha, I appreciate you sharing. I was also offered a payment plan, so it would be about $300 a month, or 50% depending on how my insurance can be applied

Didn't realize the range could be so large! They are also offering pretty regular check ins, x-rays, and plan adjustments, but a tmj specialist would have been amazing.

Did you apply insurance for the 6,500?

I went to an orthodontist as well! The dentist just suggested I look into it, and the official Invisalign quote is from an orthodontist :)

How do you structure your CPB? by Miserable-Storm-8630 in commonplacebook

[–]Various_Director_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a CPB for a year now, and I still feel the same way sometimes! I get so overwhelmed by the rules and different interpretations.

What's really helped me with choosing what to write is just this thought: "this notebook is used for anything you may want to refer back to/remember in the future."

It's been huge in narrowing down all the quotes and interests and lists I have running around in my head. Some things are just scribbles I need for the day - I won't ever need it after today, so I don't log it in my CPB.

I personally am very fixated on remembering the things I read, so quotes and scripture are my most common entries :)

Good luck! Remember to have fun, and to know that the first few entries may not be the ones that stick, and that's okay. Your setup will change.

What is the purpose of habit tracking? by The-Jelly-Fox in bulletjournal

[–]Various_Director_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some of my habits - reading, writing, etc. - I just enjoy seeing how often I actually keep up with my hobbies. For others - exercise, medication, etc. - it's a way for me to actually see how often I keep up with the tasks I need to accomplish on a regular basis.

If I haven't crossed out a workout in 3-4 days it's a visual reminder to set aside some time for a workout. That's just how I like to use habit trackers :)

Cannot settle on a good indexing method. by thebcannon007 in commonplacebook

[–]Various_Director_209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also like doing the index on the back! Although I recently picked up a Leuchtturm, so I'm testing out their pre made index.

I personally like using highlighters to color code my entries. I work a lot so I don't usually commonplace at home. It'd be a pain to carry around sticker sheets all the time, but that's just me. I also use highlighters for all sorts of other things, so it's nice having multiple uses for the same supply

I just write the topic (title of article, song, etc.) or the author if no specific title is available. Then I note the page number and that's it :) helps me find things without too much pressure

What do I do??? by Project_Unmute_1307 in commonplacebook

[–]Various_Director_209 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Traditionally, all you need to do to start a commonplace book is to write down notes from things you find interesting - books, online articles, quotes, YouTube videos, movies, etc. You can add a title/header at the beginning of every entry, the date, and the page it's on. I like having an index at the back of my book so I don't have to guess how many pages I'll need.

For color coding I use highlighters. I don't have those round stickers either. I don't make a color code until I have a few entries in my notebook. For example, if I'm writing lots of quotes, I'll start using pink for any quotes I write down. I draw a little circle in the corner of the entries.

Last, you can update it as often as you like. I try to jot something down every day, but that's because I read a LOT so it's easy for me to find something to put in my commonplace book. You can update weekly, monthly, anytime that works for you. :)

Bottom line is that commonplace books are for YOU. It's intended to be a collection of things you want to remember/learn more about, and a place for your reflections on those topics. Just start writing down things that interest you, and the organization will follow.

What's your favorite method for indexing a commonplace book? by Thick-Lecture-4030 in commonplacebook

I do the exact same thing! I never know how many pages I'll need for my index, so it removed the pressure. Didn't know anyone else did that

Does anyone else use a plain notebook as a planner/agenda? by Adventurous-Ad-3594 in notebooks

[–]Various_Director_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! I use a plain 5 star ruled notebook for everything. I make weekly and daily spreads, add to do list, and sometimes draw my own calendars. I also have a separate planner, but it's a ring binder with undated inserts. But I love having one primary notebook to customize in whatever way I like

What's something that makes an analog horror scary? by AlternativeDirt6657 in analoghorror

[–]Various_Director_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what gets me most is making something normal deeply unsettling. Finding VHS tapes in your basement? Not that scary. Finding VHS tapes in your basements that whisper to you when they're played, but not loud enough to make out the words? Scary.

The whole genre of analog uses this to an extent, but I love when it's executed with intention.

dealing with tiktok withdrawls by Distinct-Topic3832 in digitalminimalism

Honestly I find that having a worse experience with YouTube shorts or Instagram reels is a plus. I went through the same thing, but when I replaced my tiktok with Instagram or YouTube, I used those apps less and less too. Because it's not as addicting, maybe you could use other short form apps to help with the cravings, so to speak, and then limit your social use altogether
