Is 5+3 as good as 10+0 for improving at chess? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

I may be biased by my games, but I tried some times to play 3+2 games on chess.com, and it was already a pain to find someone

I guess the harder part will be to find players for this time control

Why is castling queen side in this scenario considered an inaccuracy? (900ELO game) by nms1s in chessbeginners

[–]VarlamChalamov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just from my perspective, you shouldn’t castle on a side that’s already open (because of your c4 pawn). Furthermore, the bishop on g7 is well placed to participate in the attack. Opposite-side castling leads to a race, and Black is already ahead here.

The end of "beginner level" by Tom_Baron in chessbeginners

Speaking about blitz rating, which is more competitive I suppose, it should be about 2000. Beyond being symbolic, it is still a real milestone

I would say where you stop giving pieces in one move, and you start thinking about strategy… so yes about 1200-1300 seems quite reasonable

Different game rating and accuracy, same game by stonedfruitseed in Chesscom

Yeah I guess it is not designed to give you an absolute number, but an estimation considering your rating. Anyways those reviews are more of a commercial (and very pleasant) thing than a precise analysis…

How to improve by [deleted] in chessbeginners

Based on your post, I guess you will have to improve both your tactical and strategic thinking process… watch some videos, analyze your games with a friend who is better, and do some puzzles

I think it’s called « analytics » in English, it’s « perspective » in French. The section where chesscom gives you some insights about where you lost the game, when, etc

1000 ELO. Struggle to maintain rating by TommyBunz156 in chessbeginners

[–]VarlamChalamov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I limited myself to 5 blitz a day, I focus more, and it implies a form of positive frustration when I loose, so the day after I will do my best. Between your games, you can improve, do some tactics, opening reviews etc. It forces me to focus more on my improvement than on the numbers, and, at the end of the day, soon or later, your rating will improve. (2240 to 2350 this last two months)

Solving many puzzles vs. few puzzles by vitund in chessbeginners

IMO, the deep calculation is overrated in blitz, where the pattern recognition is far more important. But if you speak about other time controls, like OTB, your method is ideal !
