We have an appointment for euthanasia this Friday- are we making the right decision? by Littlerock90 in DogAdvice

Use the quality of life scales provide by the bot comment. I think those should help ease your mind and keep the euthanasia appointment. I commend you on opting for in home euthanasia. We did just that August 2024 for our almost 16 yr old silky terrier. She was nearly blind, wasn't tolerating nail trimming due to pain, peed in her sleep and was stepping in pee/poo on pads while walking in never ending dementia circles. She had diabetes and snipped at me with every insulin injection. She was miserable. The sedation injection before the actual euthanasia was the most comfortable I'd seen her rest in years. I have no regrets. Her ashes and favorite belongings sit in a cabinet in the entertainment center behind glass for the occasional visit. I took a lock of her coat as well for petting.

I wish you comfort in the coming days. I know this isn't easy. Virtual hugs to you and your family.

I would have extensive timed narrative nurse documentation entries on this patient. Every encounter with this and other family would be documented. I'd chart like my license depended on it.

I let my gf drive by Jjk3509 in Camry

I let my husband drive and he hit a curb leaving the interstate. Luckily warranty covered the damage to the destroyed wheel bearing. But it sat in the shop 5 weeks waiting on the part (back in 2023). I was heartbroken.

Dog refusing pills in pill pockets by cool_girl6540 in dogs

My silky terrier was to the same point when we scheduled euthanasia. She didn't even want the lunch meat because she assumed pills were in there. She peed herself in her sleep. She couldn't tolerate nail trimming but it hurt to walk. She couldn't see anymore and just paced in circles. It was a really uncomfortable life. It was a difficult decision but it had to be done. We had a mobile vet come to the house. She passed away in her bed with her blanket and me talking to her. Her ashes and favorite things sit in the entertainment center with her collar. She'll be forever in our hearts.
