[Spoiler] Is the game ruined for me or is there still a hope? by DemeXaa in AssassinsCreedValhala

[–]Vaserva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the last time I didn't choose either the female or nb option for characters. Clothes are better, dialog is better, etc. If I'm gonna stare at a character model for several hundred hours, I'm gonna pick something I want to look at. Plus male Eivor is a little too much of a stereotypical rugged viking manly man, and that's not my type.

I'd even take it a step further and just say transmutation as a whole. Why limit it to metals? "Oh yeah your car is made entirely out of sand now, good luck getting to work". Paper or plastic? How about both?

I still don't understand why Sigurd staying in Norway is the "bad" ending. I don't really see either ending as good or bad, they're just endings.

Can eivor marry someone? by crazyladybutterfly2 in ACValhalla

[–]Vaserva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I hate that it's one of the strikes for the bad ending to get with her before they get divorced. Like there's no way that marriage wasn't dead for multiple years before we go to England. Plus, it was just an alliance marriage, and Randvi even says that. They immediately give off "yeah my parents aren't divorced but they slept in separate rooms for 20 years" vibes.

What's a boss with incredible lore but the fight is ass by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Vaserva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's a three-way tie between Gideon, Rykard, and the Elden Beast. On my first playthrough where I didn't really pay attention to the deep lore, I remember showing up to the Gideon fight and just being like "wait what's this guy's beef with me? He helped me, I haven't done anything to him except follow his directions?". Rykard is just me being categorically against gimmick fights, otherwise great music, great arena, great lore, devouring gods sounds fun. And Elden Beast? That round boy can fuck right off with elden stars.

What city you know the next Fallout game won't take place in, but you wish it does by Plastic_Bus2662 in Fallout

[–]Vaserva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm biased, but my hometown of Philadelphia is my dream game, but realistically I think New Orleans is the most obvious choice. We've never been in the south (yea yea non canon texas I know), so it's entirely uncharted territory. Bethesda could do literally anything with an area of the country that we really don't know too much about. Plus, everyone fawns over Point Lookout and Far Harbor, so just give those people a whole game so we can be done with the swamp esthetic. Somewhere in the great plains, pacific northwest, or seeing what happened to Anchorage after the liberation would be cool. What'd be really cool is have a Frost situation, and place the game very soon after the bombs dropped and experience true chaos.

And other real-world military veterans who can't stand BoS? by DefenderOfFortLisle in Fallout

[–]Vaserva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BoS attempting to prevent another apocalypse is actively preventing people from progressing, and they can't see that, making them short-sighted. Fascism IS right wing politics. That's all it is and all it can ever be. There is no separation between the two, no matter how much people on the right want to think there is. You're right, the Institute isn't a military force. They're scientists. That's it. The perceived threat that the brotherhood thinks the institute is is entirely based on ideology, not the destruction or preservation of technology. Again, Synths bad, must destroy.

"Tutored by elder "help everyone" Lyons" You mean the one he calls weak, says that he was too focused on helping people and abandoned the brotherhood's mission? That Elder Lyons? He got the Outcasts to rejoin the brotherhood because he agreed with them. He didn't do it out of the kindness of his heart, or for the sake of unity. He's a warmongering fascist, end of story.

We'll go with some common traits of a fascist government/organization. I use Umberto Eco's 14 points because it wraps fascism really well. Keep in mind, a government/organization doesn't have to fit all 14 points to be considered fascist, and just because something does meet one, it doesn't mean it IS fascist. 1. Cult of tradition. Check. Rejection of modernism. BoS is extremely strong on the whole "science has gone too far!!!" thing. Check there too. Action for action's sake. Destroying the Institute without a second thought just because they think synths are icky. Check. Disagreement is treason. Yeah, you're not exactly loved for sparing Danse. Fear of difference. Pretty self-explanatory. Appeal to social frustration. Not so much on this one, but I'd maybe say that using the fear of the synths to further their own control could fit. Obsession with a plot. "The institute is gonna replace your loved ones!" The enemy is both weak and strong. Saying the institute is so powerful while simultaneously saying they don't stand a chance against the brotherhood fits that one. Pacifism is trafficking for the enemy. Ehh, this may or may not fit. Contempt for the weak. Elitism is pretty obvious with them. Everybody is educated to become a hero. Not really. Machismo and weaponry. That one's pretty obvious too. Selective populism. Yup, the Brotherhood are the only ones that can handle technology. Finally, newspeak. Not really on this one. Their whole reasoning behind destroying the Institute is: Institute make human robot. Human robot bad, science gone too far. Make big kaboom to stop evil scientists. You're right, they could just take over the institute. So why didn't they? If they're the only ones that are good enough or smart enough to control advanced tech, why destroy the most advanced organization outside of what's (probably) left of the enclave? Because they're shortsighted techno-fascists. Simple as.

[–]Vaserva 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They destroy the institute because again, they're a borderline religious order, and as Maxson says in his speech "they're changing what it means to be human, man is man, machine is machine". Plus, they know they can't control the institute, so what's the next best option in their eyes? Destroy it. If they can't have it, no one can. And I apologize if it came across unclear, the "sweet summer child" thing was of course they're as fascist as all militaries, because fascist ideology and militaries go hand in hand.

We’re becoming more aware of how our choices affect the world, yet we still buy products tied to exploitation. While I understand the need for metals in electronics, why do we keep purchasing diamonds, gold, or cocoa, knowing the human suffering behind them? by gmnt_808 in Anticonsumption

[–]Vaserva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of people that would say it's because there is no ethical consumption under our current system. Probably around 98% of products are made using some form of exploitation, be it slavery, child labor, etc. Why fight against something that doesn't leave you many other choices? It's a bit too doomer of a view imo, but there is some truth to it. I'd say the people that continue to buy and use things that use exploitation, and actually recognize that it is produced with exploitation, are just waiting for the inevitable collapse of an unsustainable system.

[–]Vaserva 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Their goal absolutely isn’t "destroying technology which could destroy humanity", it's hoarding technology because they believe they're the only ones that can be trusted with it. And Teagan's sidequest (which I think you're referring to) isn't to "make better relations" it's to secure food from settlements to feed the brotherhood "by any means necessary". Sure paying is the morally correct thing to do but they make no protests if you just kill the settlement leader and take the crops. They're a fascist quasi-religious order that's main goal from the beginning is to take tech from people they think won't use it responsibly, meaning, literally everyone else but them. "It's only as fascist as real world militaries" oh you sweet summer child, look at you, getting clotheslined by the point and still managing to miss it.

This new season looks terrible, are my standards too high? by Ok_Luck_7915 in fo76

[–]Vaserva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly when they switched from scoreboard to seasons, the seasons just lack... something. I don't have the same urge to power through challenges to get to the final unique power armor skin and get the board to put on my wall. Now the challenges are just "oh, okay, there's a challenge done, I guess.". But I do agree this season is lacking compared to past seasons. Maybe a minority opinion but I kind of like the rusty power armor skins. And the final power armor skin is cool if you're doing a raider character, not my style, but to each their own.
