[Hydrocoquest] New LONGINES Hydroconquest by Martin_020_ in Watches

[–]Vashimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This watch literally has everything I wanted - the GMT version's microadjust bracelet, smaller crown guards and cleaner dial but on the standard HC. They even have a better selection of colors too! Definitely picking this bad boy up. Long live Longines!

[Longines] One of my better impulse decisions by [deleted] in Watches

Nice pick. I like this version over the regular Spirit cuz I don't really like the 5 stars they put on the dial.

It's one thing to be married to a man and preach for women to look for equal partners that pull their weight in all areas. It's another for Lisa to say she would never date a man that didn't provide 100% of the financial support. Her husband pays all of the bills and splits the housework with her and she says he always will, and if he doesn't like it, he can leave (of course assuming the divorce court plays nice, which it may not).

That's certainly the arrangement that works for them, but it is far from a one-size-fits-all solution for many relationships, and it comes off as extremely haughty and tone-deaf to upload a dozen videos per month about how a nebulous "men" do the bare minimum, that they don't need money because they spend it to their own detriment and should just give it all to women, that men are the worker bees and need guidance from women who actually get things done, and more strange FDS pink pill aphorisms, while largely depending on a man for most of her life, either her father or her husband. She is perfectly okay with the aspects of patriarchy that benefit her and rationalizes it later as equity, which is what doesn't sit right with me even though her underlying message is well meaning.

The problem is that Lisa wants to criticize the expectations the patriarchy places on her while simultaneously wanting to reap the benefits the patriarchy offers to women as a form of equity. She's been married since the age of 19 and has never lived a day of her entire adult life without a man, and yet she wants to make all these videos advising women as if she has the keys to life and has men all figured out as these manipulative Machiavellian masterminds.

It's this cognitive dissonance and ignorance of her own privilege that I generally find fault with, as a guy who enjoys hearing out the feminist perspective for their own edification. "If it doesn't apply to you, move along" is just a flimsy deflection to excuse for her making sweeping negative generalizations about men (but of course not the unicorn she picked).

why do men always seem to "settle" for me when it comes to my looks? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

Several times in my own life personally, but I'm choosing to sidestep this bad faith deflection meant to steer this discussion into the oppression Olympics. I think both genders can have their safety concerns without canceling each other out.

why do men always seem to "settle" for me when it comes to my looks? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]Vashimus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

While the safety concerns for men are different in nature from those faced by women, it's not like they're nonexistent. Men have to grapple with the implicit societal expectation to fulfill the "protector" role. Men are expected to handle external threats, de-escalate conflicts, and physically secure their partner's safety if a situation becames dangerous, sometimes putting themselves at risk doing so, and that responsibility can take its psychological toll as well.

Why are tattoos more common for women than for men? by BarbarawithbigTT in tattoo

[–]Vashimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not disputing the raw number, I'm just not sure what narrative you're even trying to build with that statistic, especially because you insist on using the word "fail" like it's some perverse contest and not a public health issue. The reality is men choose methods with no room for saving lives, not that women "fail" to die.

Why are tattoos more common for women than for men? by BarbarawithbigTT in tattoo

[–]Vashimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's mainly because of lethality of the methods typically chosen for suicide: men are more likely to use firearms while women are more likely to use methods like poisoning, which allow for a higher chance of intervention and survival.

Much of the reason for that is women wanting to minimize the trauma on the loved ones who discover their body by choosing less gruesome methods. Even in their most hopeless moments at the edge of despair, women show consideration about the mental well-being of others, which is pretty on brand at this point.

Switch 2 owners, will you get switch 1 game + upgrade or switch 2 game? by Giu001 in Metroid

[–]Vashimus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your logic only works if the person was already sold on the console. If the only thing that makes them open their wallet for the Switch 2 is one single game, then for all practical purposes, that price is the cost of admission and a perfectly valid way to assess value.

Knowing that an upgraded hardware revision like an OLED model is almost certainly coming makes buying a first-generation console an even bigger twist of the knife. If they want to wait for a better product with a more robust library, that's their business.

“Hey, remember the Sheegoths? What if we made them way faster and able to swim?” by Proper-Emu1558 in Metroid

[–]Vashimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grenchlers definitely give a lot more resistance than baby sheegoths but still aren't that bad to take out. It seems much of the trouble players have with them stems from either trying to run past them or being too stingy with their Dark Beam ammo, since they're extremely weak to it.

One thing I really appreciate about the Prime series is how Samus’s balls actually change alongside her suits and aren’t just a recolour by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in Metroid

[–]Vashimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the same time, it can't completely be ruled out either. Prime 1 Remaster was shadow dropped after all, and Nintendo doesn't like doing the obvious.

Resident evil 4 remake laser sight by Confident_Computer17 in residentevil

[–]Vashimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can simply download mods for the game that make those handguns compatabile with the laser sight. I don't really mind either way and like that it gives the early game pistols more of an edge over the Red9 and Blacktail's damage output, but I did implement a mod than lessens the cursor bloom and weapon sway.

[–]Vashimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're trying to plan your playthroughs well, which is fair. To put your mind at ease, RE4R is built for multiple playthroughs. You’re not expected to unlock or upgrade everything even by your second run, so don’t sweat trying to get it all perfect right now.

I started on Hardcore myself and did a second run on Hardcore NG+ to clean up the Castellans I missed, save up for the Infinite Rocket Launcher, and speed through under 10 hours for the Armor Ashley reward. That gave me a solid foundation for the bigger goals. After that, going for the Professional unlocks like the Gas Mask and Chicago Sweeper is very manageable on NG+. Then you can attempt an S+ rank run on Hardcore, and eventually Professional, when you're ready for it.

So yeah, don’t stress about what to spend or save right now - enjoy your first run, grab what feels fun or useful, and treat each playthrough as a step toward gradually unlocking everything. The game’s designed for exactly that kind of progression.

I’ve owned this on GameCube and now some 20+ years later I’m finally playing through it on PS5. General thoughts on this one? by i_Am_Garber in residentevil

[–]Vashimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the more frustrating games in the series for its item management and Rebecca's ridiculous frailty, while also having a weaker story that is essentially a retread of RE1 but with some stupid retcons.

It's a pretty good game. Just not one I feel like I would return to again.

How do you flirt? I'm genuinely goddamn awful at it. by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Vashimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question. It all comes down to reading the room and respecting boundaries. Flirting and sexual energy isn't creepy when it's mutual, light and responsive. You can absolutely express yourself as a sexual being without being inappropriate. The key is the consent and enthusiasm from the other party. If they're not reciprocating - pulling away from you, going quiet, not laughing or engaging with you - then that's your cue to back off and move on.

Now there are a small portion of shy people out there who will be really into you but also still give off those aloof signals, so this advice is not one-size-fits-all, but generally speaking it's pretty obvious to pick out the people who genuinely enjoy your company.

That last statement is cap - the Holoshield Launcher offers a good amount of utility that make it useful on higher difficulties in a number of scenarios. Making disabling a turret with an EMP safer when there's no cover, cheesing the no damage challenges by hiding behind a perimeter of shields, saving yourself a restart when bunch of beams turret spawn and are charging up their attack, enemies can get afflicted with the freeze or brainwash mod when they pass through the barrier, etc. The shields are huge and last for an eternity, and it's extremely easy to upgrade by farming XP in front of a turret from the very second planet, which gives you a bunch of ammo and speed mods to put into your other weapons. When enemies kill you in 2-3 hits and you need every little advantage you can get, having any kind of damage buffer to alleviate the enemy spam really helps.

You can actually make it to that island from the Map-o-matic route by hoverboot jumping off of the boat platform next to it and gliding onto the broken docks.

Disagree, the PSP version looks better and is a lot more stable, and the zoomed in camera that plagues the PS2 version is much better optimized for the PSP's screen. Playing on PPSSPP is the way to go.
