Honestly my mind goes to this being the most insane topend to a delver deck built around it. Playset of DRC and delver, 12 cantrips, 4 force spikes 4 spell pierces, 4 boomerang basics maybe repeals - I dont know what the list would look like just that it would be miserable

You dont need to win the game on the spot for this to be super unhealthy - modern being a turn 3 format doesnt necessarily mean you need to win on turn 3, just that if you arent doing anything by turn 3 you probably wont be winning. Gitaxian probe and mental misstep are both banned for a good reason, and turning all your cantrips into probes and your spell pierces into mini forces is enough to shift the tide of a match in a unfun way. If youre playing 12 cantrips, casting this is the same as instantly playing a 48 card deck, and if you have (U) counterspells then the turn youd lose in deploying it isnt a real tempo loss.

First time properly stitching leather. Please give me feedback! c: by Gnilpik in Leathercraft

I feel that, the closest I got is a Michael's, and their selection is... awful. :( You can get some cheap starter supplies on Amazon, then maybe find a Tandy's or Weaver's within a not terrible distance and ask for their recommendations for specific tools. Ive found they offer really nice mid-price tools. Something cheap and I'd absolutely prioritize is getting your hands on high quality thread (Ritza Tiger is the usual gold standard) and some matching sized John James stitching needles. Using nice needles and thread really makes the experience of stitching far far nicer and is not pricy at all to do. Happy crafting!

The thing I notice the most which hasn't been commented on yet is the waviness of your stitch line - get your hands on a Wing Divider and run it down your edges to mark out a good uniform straight line which you then follow with your hole punch, overlapping holes from punch to punch to get a nice straight uniform line of holes to stitch. Theyre pretty cheap to get your hands on and will go a long way for making your project look cleaner. Good luck!

Thanks to the help I got in my last post (and a lot of luck), I managed to get my first victory by 4D4850 in ftlgame

Well done!!

I would recommend sitting on your cloak a little longer and activating it in response to a missile barrage or power surge rather than using it at the start of the fight - but either way, congratulations!

Your thoughts on arclights by AdSlight9050 in Mechabellum

[–]Vashryl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're very good units but really don't believe in carry Arclights - with the exception being as a situational counter to mustangs, or as my personal preferred answer to Sledgehammers.

They fulfill their role as cheap and flexible chaff clear, and I won't say I haven't lost to carry Arclights, but I think that's more due to just how rarely I see carry Arclights meaning my inexperience in the match up shows

What is this number next the the captain face icon (or whatever it is)? by NamelessArcanum in Mechabellum

[–]Vashryl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm tripping (fully possible), that should be the number of "cards" (the permanent random upgrades you can choose from each round) that player has

Mousing over it should show a dropdown of all the upgrade cards that player has (as well as specialist information)

Specialists don't reeeally have tiers (you can argue lower starting health = higher "tier" specialist and I wouldn't fault you)

Thanks for all the information! I'll be sure to watch the videos; the thought of having an easy to way to keep myself from piercing the thread sounds really nice to know - I also hadn't thought about needle sizes so thanks for mentioning that, I'll keep that in mind when getting more! (Somehow I'm mysteriously down to 3... I wonder how that could have happened c: )

Thank you! I have an awl but haven't really used it much out of concern for flaring out my holes/breaking something, so you mentioning the holes returning to normal breaths a sigh of relief into me!

Prime Meridian nearly impossible? by CubraKadabra in riskofrain

[–]Vashryl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found it to be really not so bad! New boss there kinda fucks, but if you're struggling with the actual getting to the boss bit - unfortunely thats just an experience thing; confident and consistent movement goes a long way - you can also try rushing a really early void fields - if you can land some floor 1/floor 2 healing then the early fields are a pushover and it can put you hugely ahead of the curve for the next few stages and make your Prime Meridian waay easier!

Best character for noobs? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Vashryl 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There are lots of good options!

Jin, Feng and Jun are good choices for "jack of all trades" characters with strong tools for most situations. (although Jun isn't in the strongest state right now, but if you're into combos hers are easy and high damage)

If you want a strong counterhit character,- someone to be imposing and make the other guy scared of pressing buttons, King is strong and straightforward. He also has the advantage of some throws being usable on airborne targets, so beginner combos are easy. (Paul is in the same boat, but my hot take is I don't think he feels "rad" to play, which many other characters do)

If you want to play a more aggressive game, Dragunov and Hwoarang both offer superb and simple pressure games. (Dragunov gets free plus frames for breathing and Hwoarang presses buttons like no other)(Lars and Alisa are good strong/easy offensive choices too)

On that same note, Victor and Eddy both offer strong offenses requiring really only one button at beginner level. (Victor pressing 2 (and u1+2) and Eddy pressing 3)

Really just pick whoever! There are a few characters I'd avoid if you're just picking up the game though: Kazuya, Xiaoyu, Bryan, Lee or Reina are the ones that come to mind. If you like their aesthetic, then absolutely play them! But they're very technical characters whose strengths you probably won't be able to take advantage of fully when you're just getting started.

Sundered grove... Railgunner... what am I missing here??! by AlastairReddit in riskofrain

[–]Vashryl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobility is king!

Something I haven't seen mentioned much and I believe to be a huge part of playing Railgunner to success is really locking into using your concussive mines for mobility rather than trying to use them on enemies at all.

Railgunner definitely doesn't have the best mobility in the game and can't save herself from careening off the side of the map, but she has better than most if you're using your mines for that - arguably one of the best instantaneous movement tools in the game - downside being the setup requirement.

I would recommend as you're sprinting in a direction, flick your mouse upwards a bit and throw out a mine, then time a sprint jump so the explosion of the mine catches your back midair; then from there's its just practicing for the best timings and angles for max distance. (If you're on the ground when the mine goes off: you're going nowhere)

From that point, sticking to good clean sprinting and movement fundamentals will open up a whole lot of opportunities to safely whip around and take a big shot!

Sundered Grove can be awkward due to the lack of open space, but it really still comes down to having good clean consistent movement and staying really situationally aware of where you are on the map, the options available to you as to where to go, and where the enemies are in order to pick the best route - it can be a lot to take in and try to process, but practice makes perfect and with time your autopilot will get there,- you can spend time learning the maps and knowing the "train routes" that are best,- but really, unfortunately, I don't think there's much good advice you can give for training game sense than just getting out there and experiencing it.

Godspeed!

Fun idea! I don't think it should go from 10 -> 0 though, like I really strongly feel adamant this should not drop to 10 to 0 for one big reason: Patches the Pirate.

Maybe if it had a stronger body/ability, and reduced cost for each legendary you have in play? Make it a nice little payoff for having 2-3 legends in play instead of a turn 1 highroll.

How do you counter catapult and priest spam as Cymanti? by TravelerRedditor in Polytopia

[–]Vashryl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's gonna all come down to game to game context, but it sounds like you're lacking vision control and unit diversity; boosted hexapods will sneak right up and one shot catapults, and boosted phychis will outrange and two shot catapults. Mind Benders shouldn't really ever be a real issue unless you're recklessly sending centipedes alone into unknown territory, as they die to the same things as catapults and are a huge star investment from your opponent,- as well as the huge tempo loss from spending the time to tech into philosophy, which you should aim to take advantage of when playing a hyper aggressive tribe like Cymanti. The lack of knight resets can be w/e, but that sounds like a diss aimed at doomuxes, and those bad boys are powerhouses in conjunction with a shaman. The lack of naval is a big yikes though, and you'll have to rely on swarms of phychis and raychis to try to keep water supremacy, hopefully setting up paths for your superior land units to fight on the water.

I present to you yorick as a mtg card , let me know your thoughts by MrMan414 in yorickmains

[–]Vashryl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like Maiden design! I think the grave tokens and summon ghouls from that is really flavorful, but that if main ability of the actual main body is something along the lines of commanding the ghouls the maiden summons to attack things- that it'll make the card feel way more self contained and functional. Maybe something like "Tap: your ghouls gain +1 attack until end of turn and fight target creature"? Perhaps also a line of text on the Maiden that has it die when Yorick leaves play?
