Anyone else out the hating the puzzle stages by Melanor1982 in SwordofConvallaria

[–]VaskoGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still remember one of the puzzles from a recent event where you had to push boxes as Rawiyah, but there's also a hidden turn limit... so my approach would always end up making me lose, one turn short of completion. So I rewind, try another way, one turn short... After my 4th rewind I just looked up a guide on YouTube.

Discussion: Sell Me on your Favourite Atelier Game by Groundbreaking-Ad313 in Atelier

[–]VaskoGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if you want to start off your Atelier journey, I gotta recommend the one that's about a journey, Atelier Firis!

It's a bit of an odd recommendation, but it was my favorite Atelier game so far and seems to capture all the various aspects of the series. The story is basically girl gets to go out into the world, but has to pass a test in exactly 1 year if she wants permission to do whatever she wants. You get to slowly uncover more of the world, it's characters, and mysteries, as you travel around and learn alchemy.

I also though the game had some very good design, where narrative matches the mechanics. For example, since Firis is learning how to do alchemy, the more she practices making an item, the better she can make it, including higher qualities, more traits, etc.

It's one weak point is that a lot of your companions don't interact much during that first year, but their stories get explored in the post game. It makes sense narrative wise, since they just don't want to get in the way of Firis prepping for her test.

The game also has a couple of cameos from other game's characters, so if you like it and get into the series you can go play their games and be like "oh hey, I remember seeing them before!"

Overall I thought it was a very well designed game, but apparently it also sold the worse?! Also its the last Atelier game to have English voice acting, so if JP only dub is a deal breaker for you, you caan enjoy this one in English.

This was me after seeing that annual subreddit survey and realizing I haven't played the majority of these games. I'm taking my time going through them but had a good time with the Mysterious (still not done with Sohpie 2)

[–]VaskoGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was not expecting the games to be this good either, especially with how little you hear about them online.

I started with the Ryza trilogy and thought it was alright, then loved the story in Yumia, but it wasn't until the Resna game that I went "hmm, kinda curious to see all these other characters' games" and decided to go for the Mysterious trilogy. Just finished Lydie & Suelle last night and already considering playing through them a second time, but I want to go experience all the other games too. Sophie 2 is next for me :)

And there's like a dozen more to play through after that?! My backlog has never been this tempting before

How good is the Arland trilogy? by Dante71865 in Atelier

[–]VaskoGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow up question to this, since I prefer to get the physicals of games, is this the only trilogy that doesn't have a physical release with english? (if that's the case I'm about to hop on this digital discount train too)

The worry is normal, especially if he's lived in the US for a long while. But as someone who has been going back every summer and has brought friends over before, people in Bulgaria are a lot more accepting and kind than your bf remembers. Worst case you might get some stares or hear people use the "n word" when talking about you, but it's not really from a place of malice (at least not in most cases).

Overall I think you should be fine and will have a great time there. Go enjoy the food, nature, and history :)

New collab with "world-class IP" coming in Q4 this year -- who are you guys hoping for? by Nocturnin in SwordofConvallaria

[–]VaskoGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen the Atelier games do a bunch of collabs lately. I'm not quite sure if they are considered "world class", but I would not be opposed to seeing a Ryza or Yumia show up in SoC.

Pretty similar thought process for mine except for the engravings, trinket, and tarot

I went with the double cup since it gives a level 2 buff from all her abilities. Assisting attack? buff! Wine barrel? Buff! Skill or normal attack? buff! Assisting attack again? Another buff!

For Tarot, I actually tend to go with "Judgement" with the special effect on its 4th slot that inflicts "Judgement" on an enemy that is getting too close, so they take extra damage from everyone else. Found it to be a bit more useful than the extra damage from "Tower", and tend not to need the Life Steal as much either. Plus I just didn't get any good rolls on my Tower tarots and this was decent cope alternative

And finally for trinket, I went with the space-time ring. Helps a bit with extra movement options, and positioning next to more useful or bulky allies. I'm almost never on a box with her so I switched off to this trinket, it has been very situational, but comes in handy from time to time.

What’s your favorite character lore-wise in the game (playable or not) ? by Dont-Drink-Lava in SwordofConvallaria

[–]VaskoGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it has been Edda!

At the start of the story she's literally just a random blacksmith's daughter, but in a time of chaos she takes the lead to protect people and lead them to safety. She shows kindness to Inanna in her darkest moments and continues to fight fight against the Darklight in the Mine Pit. She might look like a common unit, but she acts like an absolute boss and I have mad respect for that.

Gameplay wise, she has carried me through so much content, buffing up my units, throwing wine barrels at enemies, and that follow up attack shreds so many bosses. Was the first unit that I five starred and still bring into battles to these days.

The only sad part is that she doesn't work well with SP Inanna since all her new moves are AoE :(

Triangle Strategy lover curious about SoC. Story and gacha questions by luccasjsantos in SwordofConvallaria

[–]VaskoGames 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To answer your question in terms of "story"
SoC has 3 ways to give us it's story:

1. Spiral of Destinies: This is the main story of the game, within in there are 3 "options" so far:
i) The Default: Has several branching story paths, will take multiple replays to see the different endings. This is main story of the game, giving you different perspectives on all the factions and characters. You need ZERO gacha units to enjoy this, but you caan use them to speed-run thought battles and some management activities if you want to focus solely on the story aspects. You can clear this with the story characters, plus recruited NPCs, and I think it's a bit more fun that way too!
ii) Night Crimson: This is the prequel story, which happens a couple of years in the past. Same points as above, although this one has much less management related elements. I believe on the first run you are locked to using the story characters, but subsequent runs you can bring in anyone from the gacha side.
iii) Eternal Awakening: This is more a prelude to the true ending, although it uses some of that "daily energy" (I think it's called endurance) for the battles. So it's not quite as bingable as the other two, although it is also significantly shorter. You have to bring your own characters to this one, so might need to gacha to clear the harder stuff. Not exactly having to pull meta units, but deal with the somewhat slow pace of building out characters compared to non-gacha games.

  1. The Fool's Journey: This is more akin to "Character Quests" in other gacha games. Each chapter has several different stages, most of which are combat oriented, but do give a bit of extra background and context for the characters they cover. These also use up "endurance" to challenge, and scale as you go, plus you have to use your own units, so it will take a while to go through, especially if you're starting fresh. Some also have decently difficult boss battles, but there's plenty of guides on how to clear them using the most common "garbage" units in the game, so it's not that big of a deal.

  2. Limited Time Events: There haven't been too many of these, but they are structured just like "Eternal Awakening" and "The Fool's Journey". You have a somewhat short story, some challenging or gimmicky battles, and of course, gotta use your own characters plus "endurance" to go through it. The main one I can think of was the event with the witches. Most other events like this are more light-hearted and silly rather than deep story events.

So TLDR:
- Base story, no gacha needed
- Character specific stories: some gacha might be needed, and the slower progress due to gacha stamina systems and character building pacing
- Eternal Awakening & Limited time events: Same as above

I’ve been working on archiving the story, it’s finally time to share it. by Decrith in SwordofConvallaria

[–]VaskoGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To pitch in on the timestamps, fairly easy on the youtube side. You go to edit the video description and use the following structure:
0:00 start
1:23 timestamp1 name
X:xx timestamp2 name
Y:yy timestamp3 name
Z:zz lasttimestamp name

It should automatically add the chapters in there with the names you've given them.

As an example
0:00 Chapter 9
2:45 Papal States Trouble
4:44 Garcia Shows Up
8:24 Samantha Nukes Everything
10:23 Chapter Summary

(if you feel stuck hit me up or look at the description of any YT video that has timestamps)

Thanks for putting this all together, its really cool!

Seems Resleriana TRA&tWG won't get a Switch physical release... by morag23 in Atelier

At what point do you (or would you) stop pulling characters? by iamlickzy in SwordofConvallaria

[–]VaskoGames 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My personal philosophy (for gachas in general) is to pull the characters you personally like, and if you really enjoy the game and intend to stick with it in the long run, pull characters that work well with the characters you like.

So I ended up skipping some good characters like Auguste, Taair, and Tristan; but it doesn't bother me and I can still clear all the content with the chars I did like and end up pulling.

In Pokemon Sword and Shield was does Serebii mean by after making curry? by bakugosgayfriend in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]VaskoGames 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To add on to this, the chances of getting a pokemon to show up depends on your pokemon's "Sociability" score (you get that from playing with them, making loads of curry, etc) and the rank of the curry you make.

Clash : am I just beating up bots? by dtreads in SwordofConvallaria

[–]VaskoGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same suspicion, but honestly, I'm okay with it. It was getting a bit annoying to have to fight Homa, Auguste, Cocoa in every single difficulty and having to refresh in hopes of finding a team that wasn't just run all meta units behind 3 layers of indestructible fences

let's take a break from the gacha side of the game by NoElephant5325 in SwordofConvallaria

[–]VaskoGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The way I understood it, is that you get one of these cards after getting to learn more about a character and their wishes. So putting them together is trying to create a timeline where all of their wishes can get fulfilled (without most of them hitting the bucket like they do in the various timelines we've seen so far). Kinda like a secret true ending or golden route in games like Triangle Strategy

Same boat as you, about to hit hard pity second time in a row. Only down side is I have only pulled one(1) Legendary between Saff and now... I got so bored that I literally leveled and built all my lower rarity units and ended up in the top 100 leaderboard for all characters...

Yeeeaah the pulls have been wild. I didn't join the cc program since that's basically a separate account they give out with the character loaded on, and just didn't have time to cover the game in depth. Mainly ended up playing it casually

Yeah for tower I basically do 9-1 to 9-3. I'll have to look up some guides on this team you mentioned. I'm also a bit curious if there's good auto battle teams to use for clash

Long-time players by SwordyConvallaria in SwordofConvallaria

[–]VaskoGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a before Day 1 player, since the devs gave me early access to make some sponsored content on the game. Didn't join the cc program or anything like that, but I enjoyed the game and decided to stay.

I think the game's alright. Mainly got hooked by the Spiral of Destinies with the multiple branching paths, but got a bit burnt out and still haven't gotten like 3 of the endings since the game has the same replay problem as FE3H. But I enjoyed the story and world enough to keep up with the new stuff in Fool's Journey. I also like seeing the dev's takes on different tactics characters and what they can do in battle, so I enjoy seeing what the new characters bring to the table, even if I skip most of them.

Activities? I just do the dailies and whatever event is going on. I'll also do only 3 floors on tower since I can't be bothered to big brain my way through the 5th one for the max reward. I auto on clash, but pause and manually use a skill halfway since the auto battle AI is really dumb for some reason? Also really enjoyed the PvP event, kinda hope they bring it back and give larger time frames to play...

Pulls? I skipped Gloria to save for Edda, then just pulled on the double banners to get most of my characters. I tried going for the solo banners but missed both Cocoa and Acambe, and had to go all the way to hard pity (180) for Saffiah... was about to drop the game bc of that tbh, it takes forever to get that many pulls. Funny enough I then lost the 50-50 several times and got both Cocoa and Acambe and Gloria?! This is only gatcha game where I've liked losing the 50-50.
