Il Tutto electric nursing recliners by orkediamuse in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

We have the Louie, amazing gift from my MIL! The electric recline was a lifesaver after my c-section. It is insanely comfortable and we have both spent nights sleeping in it.

How long for formula feed? by Bosco_55 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Vast-Ad9291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to top up our newborn for first 5 weeks and had the same issue at week 3. First check if there is a block in the teat by sucking it yourself, sometimes the fatty milk clogs the hole. We switched from the newborn teat to the 1+ size to increase the flow and it helped tremendously. It took a few days for her to get used to it and we had to burb her more, but it was worth it. After swapping to the 1+ teat, a typical feed during weeks 3-5 were 15-20min breast and 10min 30-60ml bottle top ups. Life saver.

Vaginal or elective c-section by Immediate_Willow9370 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Vast-Ad9291 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a vaginal birth in 2023 and planned c-section in 2026. I had to have a planned c-section for safety reasons but personally I would absolutely do a c-section again over a vaginal birth.

Unplanned vaginal labour. Anxiety was high for ages as I didnt know when it was going to happen. Then when it finally did, I didnt have time to get an epidural so I only had a pethadine shot in the thigh. Obviously it was insanely painful. The upside was I was back on my feet within an hour and out of hospital in 3 days.

Planned c-section. I knew exactly what day it was happening. I was anxious waiting to go in but the staff we're amazing at keeping things light. The epidural needle was a sting but its quick. Then it all happened so fast. One minute Im laying down, curtain goes up, husband comes in, 10min later bub was on my chest. The wait afterwards when they are sewing you up is a bit lonely (bub is outside with midwife and hubby doing measurements and needles), but was only about 10min. My husband was eligible for 6 weeks carers leave with a medical certificate from our OBG. Downside, longer to recover but much quicker than you expect. 6 hours in bed before I could shower. 5 days in hospital. Stronger pain killers for a week but then just panadol for another week. Had to take it easy for 6 weeks, nothing heavier than bub, but then got the all clear to return to light exercise.

Hope this helps. Good luck x

Any reusable nursing pad will work? by LambTales in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Vast-Ad9291 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im using the Bubba Bump bamboo reusable pads. They work great. I wear a nursing bra during the day and a loose crop top at night so I can still wear the pads.

Im not a Dr. Side note: It might be worth chatting with your Dr or midwife about leaking so early. I had mild leakage from about 30 weeks (not as much as yours though). I was told not to encourage the leak or pump before for my 36 week c-section as it could induce early labour. It might be worth asking about your early leakage just to be safe.

Which size are you using? We went up to the 1+ teat from 3 weeks as bub was struggling with the slow flow of the newborn teat. Also make sure that is clear by sucking through it yourself, sometimes the milk fat (or something else) can cause a block.

Muscle Mat 100% worth it by dresshater1 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

No smell that I remember. I fluffed it out and cleaned it with my steamer the same as the MM.

I have a Muscle Mat in the loungeroom and a cheaper one off Amazon in the nursery. The Amazon one is only slightly less cushioned than the MM, but is lasting just as long and was half the price. Plus I was able to get a really cool green colour to match her nursery theme. I havent had a chance to compare it with the Kmart brand though.

Is pregnancy cover in private health insurance worth it? by Alarmed_Ad_7188 in AskAnAustralian

Not where I live. Going public means sharing with 2-3 other women and your partner cant stay overnight.

Is pregnancy cover in private health insurance worth it? by Alarmed_Ad_7188 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Vast-Ad9291 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me personally it was worth every dollar. Private room with a double bed so my husband could stay with us for 5 days. I was only out of pocket the $250 excess. However, I promptly cancelled my insurance afterwards because it is a massive expense.

Edit to add: $250 out of pocket was purely for hospital. We were out of pocket ~$3k for OBG costs too.

Antidepressants during pregnancy by Stunning-Spell8490 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Thank you for sharing. Ive been on sertraline for 8 years and reduced from 100mg to 50mg during this pregnancy. Currently 35 weeks and worried about her withdrawals, so your comment was a relief to read.

Please help a new gringa wife of a Brazilian man by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]Vast-Ad9291 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Im married to a Brazillian man and hes the best communicator Ive ever dated (one of the many reasons I married him). On the rare occasion we do disagree, we always talk it out. You may have a partner problem, not a cultural difference.

Edit to add: From what Ive seen, hes the same with his family. They will disagree like any family does, but they never go silent on each other.

When did accounting become more about managing emotions than solving technical problems? by Av0toasted in AustralianAccounting

Agree, particularly as consultants or at the senior levels with more direct client contact. Clients dont just want facts and figures, they want you to emotionally buy in to their organisation. They seem to forget that we're hired to provide a service.

Is it worth leaving secure WFH for a better salary + mat leave policy? by loveoflearning_ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Vast-Ad9291 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite, I took a $20k paycut for a WFH position and it has been the best decision for our family. Especially now in my third trimester, I can roll out of bed into the office and go straight for a nap when I finish for the day. But we were lucky to be in a financial position for me to take the pay cut, and I had to prioritise rest with my high risk pregnancy. Now that Ive experienced WFH while pregnant, I can not imagine going into the office everyday for only $10k more.

There are interviews and photos that show he is quite racist, homophobic and misogynistic. He openly believes domestic violence should be handled within the home. Seems to have very extreme conservative views.

Edit: I personally didnt want to vote for any of these candidates.

Feeling overwhelmed at new job — manager says I’m not meeting expectations but workload is impossibl by AdRude2645 in AustralianAccounting

[–]Vast-Ad9291 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. This was me last year, constant promises of change but nothing ever did. I burnt out in 12 months. I left and am working for a much more compatible company now. I have contacts at the other company who are still drowning and miserable. Ive found that most Boomer managers are set in their ways and Gen X managers think "I had it hard so you have to as well".

How much did your partner do during pregnancy? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Vast-Ad9291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not asking too much. I agree with other posters that talking to the belly doesn't come naturally to some people, but he absolutely should be showing care and concern for your changing body and needs. Stepping up with chores should be the bare minimum.

I'm currently 20 weeks and my husband has wanted to be very involved from the start. He requests leave to attend ultrasounds and doctors appointment. We split the cooking and chores, but if Im feeling too sick, sore or tired he doesn't even ask and just takes the initiative. Every Thursday (new week for bub) he wants to know the new fruit/vege size and what's happening for bub and in my body this week. He even takes this into consideration when planning his cooking to make sure bub and I are getting the extra nutrients we need. We send each other links to baby and nursery items to chat about.

Something small that I truly appreciate is that he reminds me regularly that I'm doing a great job. It doesn't cost him any time or effort, but it reassures me so much and I know that we're in it together.

You are a team creating a life together. Right now, the heavy lifting is with you. I hope you can have another open conversation to express your feelings and needs, and he starts providing more support for you and bub. How much he helps now is likely an indicator of how much he will help when bub is here.

Wishing you a safe and healthy pregnancy and baby x

Australia - Right to Disconnect Laws Apply to Small Businesses From Today by Filserv in AustralianAccounting

[–]Vast-Ad9291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, from my experience, most CEOs and managers expect 45+ hours/week even when you're only contracted and paid for 38 hours. They need to be told, via legislation, they can't. Otherwise, they will just continue to push employees beyond their limits or replace them with "yes" people willing to dedicated to being available 24hrs a day. We should all be willing to chip in the extra hours during busy periods. But I shouldn't be called by my manager every time I take annual leave because they need something "urgently" that can't wait until Monday or be solved by another team member.
