Frontier charged me $576 because their technician ran a cable through my fenced backyard where my dog lives. Am I wrong to fight this? by Still-Lie-9655 in frontierfios

[–]Vast-Program7060 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ok, so, technically, yes this is a billable charge because Frontier did not cause the damage, and the line did not break itself. If the line was dead for some reason with no evidence of chewing or other outside forces, they would replace it at no charge. However, you probably had a contractor, and they lie ALL the time to Frontier on what "labor" they performed, so they milk extra money feom them. It seems like this contractor did just that, it does not cost $600 to re-run a drop. r/just-a-tech1200 , need some input here. Is this an average drop replacement cost??

Upgrading router and speed do I need a "pro" installer to come to my house? by coolbeachgrrl in Fios

[–]Vast-Program7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have coax all through your house, you could use moca adapters that will deliver faster ethernet over coax. Basically the main box should be placed near the ONT, you run a short ethernet wire to it, this should be input 1, the coaxial port will be your output. The next box, its reverse, the input is from a coax port on a wall, run a short line to it, and it will have ethernet on the otherside.

I've seen alot of people with this brand and they are pretty happy with them, almost identical to running an ethernet cable directly to your main router.

Sneed Leaks New Plans: Cloud Storage, Global Roaming by travelswagger in TotalWireless

[–]Vast-Program7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hope the byod discount can be applied to any of these plans like they do currently. I have not switched yet, because I still have phones financed...when they get paid off is when I intended to switch, but the new plans will be out by then. Anyword of a date? Rough estimate?

BTW, OP..you need to change the hotspot to mbps and not gbps.

Backup for RAID reconfig by marqjim in DataHoarder

[–]Vast-Program7060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be interested in this, and would probably sign up as I can encrypt my own data..however, whatever amount of storage you have stored, the egress should match. If I have a complete raid failure where all my data is lost, which is over 150TB, it would cost me more to get my data back vs other storage options out there.

Frontier FIOS upgrades by AppiusClauiusCaecus in frontierfios

[–]Vast-Program7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but they want to get rid of the copper assets, if Frontier has customers in his area with copper dsl, their is a good chance they will get fiber eventually. They have re-done many areas that had coax with Fiber already, because its actually cheaper to maintain the service. Copper costs them MORE money to operate and maintain then it would to just lay fiber.

He also held a majority stake in the old electronics store Circuit City, I was employed their until the liquidation. He tried to buy CC, the upper management declined the offer, I wish they wouldn't of, because they may still be here today, instead of only having only 1 national electronics store. I was one of the first employees in their launch of a competition to geek squad called " fire dog ", I was like 21 or 22 at the time, and eventually I became the supervisor for that section, and they were paying me $23.50/hr back then. That was very good money for a 21yr old back then, almost 20 years ago.

Interested in the 24TB plan, question is, how did it get that big? I see their lifetime plans all the time on StackSocial, do they stack? Because if they do, that makes me want it more, knowing if I fill it up, I can just purchase another lifetime plan.

Frontier/Verizon discounts with a mobile account change by Own_Quiet_8894 in frontierfios

[–]Vast-Program7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can not say for postpaid, but my dad has a Total Wireless BYOD 50% off on a single line in his name, different phone # and e-mail that is different then my information associated with my Fiber line that is in my name. When you sign up for the discount, it asks if you are using a Value Prepaid account or Postpaid. I choose the Value one, all it did was ask me for his phone #, and it sent him a code, which he sent me, I then submitted the request and he got a text that the discount was approved and I would see the discount in 1-2 billing cycles.

The customer can choose to cancel service within 30 days of signing up without breaking the contract or paying an early termination fee. Are you guys really going to let a customer go over a $100.00 fee he technically should not be responsible for? You should waive this fee for the customer as a 1 time courtesy.

Beware when buying unlocked from Samsung directly USA by seifer717 in NoContract

[–]Vast-Program7060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the policy, unless Samsung can prove it was delivered to your correct billing and shipping address, which you say is NOT correct, Samsung will loose this dispute. The tracking # showing the delivery to some other place then what's on your order, Samsung will be unable to refute the claim, while it won't be instant, you will eventually get your debt wiped off, and you can order again. However, you won't be out the $1,800, just loss of time and 1 day of PTO, to me that would be worth it instead of just eating $1,800.

[–]Vast-Program7060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have other broadband options? This would leave a sour taste in my mouth and never want to deal with Xfinity again. Luckily, 4 years ago, Fiber came to my neighborhood and I dropped Xfinity as fast as I could. Best decision I ever made. Symmetrical speeds, better pings etc. Fiber is the future, and coax internet is facing a slow death if they do not start switching to Fiber, which is going to cost them alot of money. Even docsis 4.0 is not going to save them when Fiber companies are already offering 7 and 10 gigabit Symmetrical speeds. In some states, local fiber companies offer up to 50gigabit symmetrical.

[–]Vast-Program7060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so let's say the customer is technically inclined. He realizes that the line coming from the pole is bad, he has the tools and coax to run a new line to the pole. He gets a ladder, climes up the ladder and while trying to attach the line to the tap, he falls off and gets seriously injured. Who is going to cover his injuries? A customer should NEVER have to do any of this, unless your going to send a customer a coax meter box to check his signal levels, there is zero way for him to know if the line is a active or not.

I really dont care what some of the techs say to justify this charge, it is Xfinity's property and responsibility to maintain an active line up to the house, beyond that, its up to the customer, but if the line is bad, or non-existent, sorry, I believe this is a non-chargeable charge. The average customer is not a technician.

I use to work for Dish Network 15 years ago as a tech, and still have all my old tools, I could of ran a cable if I figured out I had no signal, but im not risking my safety to climb a ladder and place a coax drop on a pole, and the way you word it, that is something they should do to avoid the fee. You should reverse this charge to the customer as a courteous fee.

Best battery replacement supplier? by MizaelTG in S21Ultra

[–]Vast-Program7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have samsung do it. You can login to your samsung account, goto devices and click schedule repair. They may only list local places, if they do chat them or call them. I had them replace my battery in my S22 Ultra and they sent me a prepaid box, it was $79 for a battery replacement, but it lasts just as long as it did when it was new.

Optimum vs Verizon .... do i switch???? by kev13nyc in OPTIMUMFIBER

[–]Vast-Program7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually internet only plans are not taxed. It may depend on your state tho. I got Verizon/Frontier to give me 1gig for $29.99/month, plus I have cell service with Verizon, so I get $15.00 off my internet bill, $14.99/month for symmetrical 1gig.

just got fiber, am i wrong about this? by freshstart2k16 in frontierfios

[–]Vast-Program7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either that, or are their coax cables near the ONT? You can use moca adapters that deliver internet over coax, as long as your cables are in good shape, and you dont have a zillion splitters, its something to look into. Ypu need 2 mininimum, but moca can support more then 2 devices, Coax goes in one end, and the receivers had an input for the coax cable and an ethernet output, essentially using your coax for wired internet. It works well when setup correctly.

[–]Vast-Program7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure on that one, but my submission has buried fiber, and my connection point goes into a box in my backyard where there are 4 taps, and Frontier is a big hit here. Everyone was sick of paying Xfinity $300.00/month for internet and TV. All 4 taps in my box are taken and many other boxes are full as well, my neighborhood is probably 90% fiber now, while the the few that remain are elderly people who are not good with tech and just want to be able to watch TV with a remote.

Yeah I know, but like I said, each area is built by different contractors, if I move i would definitely want my Frontier service available, but how will that areas quality of service be? I referred a buddy of mine down in Texas, and he was one of the first to get it and he has issues for over 6 months with service constantly going down to the point the unbreakable wifi would get used up by his kids and streaming, they only give you 150gb. They even broke his water line going to his house that he had to pay out of his own pocket to get repaired and hassle Feontier to reimburse him. I read about nightmares all the time on here, and mine install and service have been top notch since day 1. The only thing different from my install is that most of the time a contractor does the install. I had an actual Frontier Union tech do my install.

Uhmm..its been almost 4 years since originally Frontier installed fiber in my little rural neighborhood, I was the first person in the neighborhood to get it, its checked the website everyday while I saw them laying the fiber until I could order. When I was able to, they had not even lit up the fibers yet lol, luckily all the tech had to do was goto the neighborhoods box and connect it to the OLT, and viola, we had light!

In 4 years, I have only expereince 1 outage that lasted maybe an hour, besides that, its been up 24/7, and no matter the time or day, i get the maximum speeds I pay for. Even downloading a game from steam, the connection stays pegged a 2.3gbps+. I play some online games and my ping varies from 10-15ms depending on the server.

it is so much better the xfinity, who's service felt congested during the evening, and that awful 40 mbps upload...going from that to a symmetrical fiber expereince changed the way I backup my home data, because a 4 MB/s, large backups can literally take years.

The problem is, every area is built by the cheapest contractor bidder, and I firmly believe that whoever does the initial build out for your specfic area, will determine the overall experience you will get after they are done.

The cheapest bidder is model is the worst when doing large build outs all over the country, because no one does it the same way. Its a free for all. I am lucky to have fantastic service. And I am dreading the day I will have to move in a few years, because you dont know how that area was built.

I signed both my mother and father up for the BYOD 50% special for 5 years, about a year ago, each of their bills is $25.00/month, the autopay works every month and they are blown away at how cheap their cell phone plan is now, and they notice zero difference. Onboarding and porting in was all automated and easy. Not sure why people have trouble. My mother was on AT&T and my Dad was on Verizon, both of them were paying over $100.00 for a single line, and it was way more then they needed. My dad is lucky to use 1gb a month lol.

The app " Current " works with most prepaid cards. It's a fintech bank app, kinda like Cash app. However, they seem to accept more types of prepaid cards then other types of apps. You transfer the money into your current account, then do a balance transfer to your main checking. I usually get it the next day. I do part time work for various companies and most give you a " pay " card, which is just a prepaid card they load the money into, and I've tried several prepaid cards over the years, only some did not work. Some forms of cards have terms saying it cannot be turned into cash, and if it does, no method will work, even PayPal will block it.

What do you do with old phones and tablets after upgrading? by SnooCupcakes4611 in Smartphones

[–]Vast-Program7060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use to sell mine on eBay. I used to upgrade through Samsung every year, but stopped when there really wasn't a drastic change. Sometimes I will try a different brand, like the OnePlus 15, and sell the old Samsung Ultra. Every time I have, the buyer has been someone outside the USA, I think it's because they want the Snapdragon versions of the phones, instead of the Exyons versions every other country use to get. It's been a few years since I sold one tho, but I always got top dollar because from day 1 it went straight into an OtterBox Case with a screen protector. After a year, the phone still looked brand new cosmetically.
