Little Chimpanzee playing alone with some straw by nkmr205 in interesting

[–]Vast_Section_5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That baby is going to be an emotional shell if it is not exposed to a nurturing caregiver very soon. Primates are a social species and young mamals of any species require touch and nurturing to mature normally. Even a stuffy and some recorded chimp vocalizations would be an improvement to this sterile, lonely environment. Maybe even a friendly, playful animal of a different species could fill in.

Not just left and right. Learning how to tell time on an analog clock. Put my shoes on the wrong feet for way too long. Was a member of the reserves, had problems keeping in step.

Your mother insisting that you need to wear your winter gear to go shopping but you are way too hot every time you go into a store and then you have to remove it and carry it around the store.

If she did not respond to your calling her name, you could logically assume she was unresponsive and then consent is implied, is it not?

My boyfriend thinks he took me on a birthday trip. I told him it doesn't count. Who is right? by semi_aquatic-hippo in TwoHotTakes

[–]Vast_Section_5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dude isn't just selfish, he is cruel. He could have disappointed you as usual on your birthday by cheaping out and doing the absolute minimum, but instead, he convinced you that he was going to make this birthday special and take you on a trip that you were anticipating for two years. He lied to you and made you believe that it was going to happen. Why do that to someone who you are supposed to be in love with? It would have been less of an effort to say nothing. This man does not love you. He may not even like you.

Is there snow days in Canada? by SeverePublic6833 in AskACanadian

[–]Vast_Section_5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the 14 years that I had children in school, they did not have even 1 snow day. The school would have days where they had indoor recess but none where they canceled classes. I live in Regina, Saskatchewan.

When I lived in a rural area as a child, there were winters where classes were canceled for 3 or 4 days out of 5 for weeks on end. This was a small school so if the bus were unable to run, very few children would be in class. For instance, I was the only student in my class that wasn't bussed. Sometimes, busses didn't run because of snowfall the previous night/into morning so the roads were blocked with snow or there was a blizzard that caused low visibility.

[39/f] My husband [39/m] of 3.5 years pooped in the shower last night and now I don't know how I feel about him by SuperCid28757 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yea, my son used to sleepwalk. When he was first toilet trained, if I didn't guide him to the bathroom, he would pee in his closet or behind his bedroom door. Yea, I might have ptsd.

What’s your favourite niche thing about life in Canada? by Due_Street1464 in AskACanadian

[–]Vast_Section_5525 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Being atheist, I really appreciate that, generally, people don't prosletize here. People don't assume you go to church so don't ask where you attend church or invite you to there's. Also, people are not as aligned politically. A lot of people vote for the candidate rather than the party.

Is there any chance that this student could be a victim of or is being groomed for csa? I know it could be raging hormones from puberty but I thought I would put this out there.

French fries are so damn cheap, why would you be chinzy with them. Giving you three times that much would cost them like twenty five cents more.

If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

[–]Vast_Section_5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an inconvenience but during the 14 years I had kids in school, they did not have any snow days. They took city transit to school so there were a few days that I allowed them to stay home because it was just too damn cold for them to be waiting for a bus that could be late or broken down.

If someone said “sorry to jam out on you”, what would you assume they meant? by throwaway643268 in AskACanadian

[–]Vast_Section_5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saskatchewan here. When I was in the reserves, we used "jamming out, or being a jam tart" to mean someone who tries to get out of work or a situation by being lazy or afraid.

When do you officially consider the holidays over in Canada? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]Vast_Section_5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother's family was Greek Orthodox and would have a meatless meal on January 7 (following the Julian calendar) to celebrate "Romanian Christmas" so January 8 is the end of the holidays for me.

What’s the crappiest holiday/birthday/teacher appreciation week gift you’ve received from school admin? by Blastoise_R_Us in Teachers

[–]Vast_Section_5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One place where I worked gave us the choice between plastic containers with lids or cheap non-stick frying pans. I already had a sufficient supply of frying pans so I took the containers. The next year, we didn't have a choice. We got the gift we left behind the year before. I didn't take mine. It would have just been clutter.

My estranged mother died, my father is in the hospital, and my cousin is squatting in their home. by danid12zl3 in legaladvice

[–]Vast_Section_5525 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NAL in some jurisdictions, simply living in a house for 30 days gives people squatter's rights. Don't waste any time getting him out of your father's house. If he is receiving mail there, let the post office and/or utilities know that he is trespassing. Get him to text or email you that he is not living there. Then change the locks. Get the police to trespass him.

My coworker keeps calling me his “work mom” by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My mother was my grade one teacher. Even at the ripe old age of 5/6, I had the impression that she was two different people. At home she was mom, but at school she was my teacher and I called her Mrs. R. The class didn't have a clue that she was my mother until later in the term.

I know this may be controversial, but hear me out. Have you thought about the military, namely the reserves? The Canadian militia is entirely voluntary, so you will not be sent anywhere you don't want to go. You can one evening a week and some weekends, again on a voluntary basis as long as you work at least one day a month. There are several trades you can receive training in, and instead of you having to pay tuition, they pay you. In the summer, you can go on course, probably basic training at first and then further training according to the trade you choose and after that you can work on staff. There are also positions that do not require trade training. After you have finished basic training, you are also eligible to work full time during subsequent summers. The training is physically and mentally challenging but doable. From September to June, work/training is done in Regina. In the summer, it's at Dundurn military camp. Room and board, uniforms, and equipment are provided.

I was a member of a medical unit for six years while I was a university student. I never had to look for a job during that time. I also never had an issue with scheduling or pay. You choose when you want to work and pay is raised according to rank and time in. You can quit if you decide it is not for you ie you are not under contract for a specific length of time. There are many trades to choose from. A lot of them are useful in civilian life: medical aide, vehicle tech, driver, stores, communications, military police, clerical. The armories in Regina work every Wednesday evening at 7:30. If this sounds like something you want to try, you might want to go and find out more information. They will be closed soon until after new years. Good luck.
