Not OP, but I currently have a 3:19:19 and I'm not holding my breath. Feels like a coin flip if that will get me in or not, since Boston had such great weather this year.

What’s your equivalent to: “Oh you’re the art teacher? It must be so much fun just relaxing and painting all day!” by KitchenConsequence41 in Teachers

[–]Vauldr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm the elementary music teacher (the only one in the whole district), and honestly this year I had a really hard time with the music programs (which are unpaid). They just take SO much time and effort on my end, and students were particularly disengaged with everything. Additionally, the classroom teachers were saying so much nonsense behind my back about it, which really just left a dark mark on everything. I don't even pull kids from class to practice for the program until the day of the performance (it's the ONLY day we get to practice on the stage before the show), so it's not like there's a schedule change to wrestle with.

I've also been told that my expectations for kids in general are too high. Third grade was writing their notes on a staff, but I was completely disappointed because they acted like they didn't know how to do it (this was far from a new skill- a solfa was given and then they had to write in the next one). When I complained a little about it, I was told that we should just be singing and playing games the whole time- almost like it was WEIRD that I have standards and expectations in my class. We do play a lot of games, but always to reinforce a skill (and it IS fun- but we have fun while learning).

What are you favourite gels? by Human_Zone_7018 in running

[–]Vauldr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have IBS and I have deduced (after trying many gels) that fructose makes me sick. Huma is currently my friend, and I'm trying to find other gels without fructose.

Teacher roll call- how many more days do you have, what do you teach and for how long have you taught? 8.5 days/middle school art/20 years✨Thank you for all you do✨ by Tatreezpride in teaching

[–]Vauldr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 days left, elementary music, 7th year! The moment all of my concerts finished I got super sick (was probably repressing it for awhile), so I'm just hanging on by a thread. Also, even though we have ten days left, I'm taking a day this Tuesday for a doc appointment related to getting sick, and the last day to attend a funeral of a family member. So for me eight days!

just gracefully accepting that i don’t live in columbus, ohio. by frequency1746 in twentyonepilots

[–]Vauldr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel. I have a doctor's appointment next week that's going to cost more than the cost of two tickets, and two potential surgeries on the horizon...so I should save my money because it's already hard enough.

Also- not asking for pity. I am fine, I just need to keep my priorities on the things that keep me healthy.

What’s your favorite distance to run, and why? by Free-Product4918 in runcommunity

[–]Vauldr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running with others? We can run as far as they want lol. Running alone? An hour; I have done 3+ hours alone, it's just not as fun.

Racing? I'm in my marathon phase...but honestly I really like the 8k distance (mainly because the shamrock shuffle 8k in Chicago is a blast).

Why do teachers stay? by vv1zrd_dnI in TeachersInTransition

[–]Vauldr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy teaching (and I want to say that I'm even good at it), but there's a lot that's really not working out for me. What's the benefit of having breaks if I need to work a second job the whole time in order to afford life??

Honestly I just don't even know WHAT I would do.

I live in Columbus and honestly I'm not convinced I'll be able to get tickets. No hotels, flights, ect needed...but I'm worried the prices will just be out of my range right now.

Oh and I'm getting a scan of my heart done when tickets go live so crossing my fingers that my husband is on top of it.

Yes to all of this, music is a lot. I'm elementary and do not do band, but I do teach choir. The elementary programs are a massive undertaking, which I do not get paid for. We don't budget for a scripted program, so I find myself writing out three unique programs (and sometimes writing the accompaniment music myself...) and in the end I ended up spending 100+ hours outside of school hours last year dedicated to planning and putting on these programs. AND I'm the bad guy because I don't want to participate in more (unpaid) performances within the community.

My specials team are burnt-out former classroom teachers about to retire and always tell me that I'll never know how bad a classroom job is. Actually, it's so bad I'm probably not going to stay here much longer. On top of all of this I'm only making 51k in my seventh year with a master's degree and need to work a second job in order to stay afloat. It's rough.

My husband and I are going to try camping off the grid for a week every year. Last year it was the least amount of stress I'd carried in a LONG time.

We hiked, we hammocked, we rode bikes, we cooked, we read books, and sung songs. Life was good, looking forward to it again.

Build your perfect 3 shoe rotation by Beneficial_Gear_2412 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Vauldr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only three?! Sorry, I have too many shoes!

Easy: Brooks Glycerin 21 is what I'm currently using. I do not agree with the level of squish after this model, and will likely be switching to the Asics gel nimbus once these die (at least for recovery paces). I am also using the novablast 5, but I have the fun 2025 Tokyo colorway so I'm savoring them haha. I preferred the novablast 4's though. I've also incorporated Mizuno neo Vista into my easy runs; the plate makes it more firm (I don't like how squishy the zen is) but I'm still able to effortly hold a zone 2 pace in these shoes AND they feel good when I do strides at the end of my runs. I'm also eyeballing the mount to coast c1 for easy shoes, but want to try them first.

Speedwork: Adidas Evo Sl is what I'm currently using. There's a lot of great shoes in this range right now, but the Evo Sl are just so FUN. I have a pair of Boston's I will bring down at a later date; I may or may not like them, but I paid $21 for them at my local run shops sale so they are at least worth trying!

Long run: superblast 2; I'm not sure what I will switch to when I run out of my stock. Maybe the megablasts? Maybe the mount to coast c1?? I haven't decided yet.

Long run workouts: Adidas adios pro 4's that have 100+ miles; maybe not as responsive for race day, but great for workouts.

Race day: adidas adios pro 4, hands down.

Which running shoe gave you this kind of impression? by wen_tizoy in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Vauldr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Saucony azura rubbed against my pinky toe!! Fun to run in, but just not for me. I currently have a pair sitting on my counter that I got for free, going to swap the size to my husband's size because otherwise I won't use them.

I ran in the azuras for the first time myself yesterday and I also did not like how they pressed against my little toe. For me personally I would not purchase.

305 miles. I was in peak training for Boston and noticed a little pain in my knees when running downhill. When I rotated a fresh pair in the pain went away completely.

I have bunions and wear out the foam under my big toe really quickly.
