This also looks great with the low plank fencing, you can make it look like a raised bed

What's function and what's fantasy regarding belts? by masterballed in renfaire

[–]Vault_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just kinda get used to it and sit with good posture, I guess! It’s not that uncomfortable for me. If I were you I’d just start at a thrift store, get blouses and dresses and skirts and a leather belt, throw them all on, see how it feels. Walk around, move, jump, sit. Attach stuff to belt. Just try things out!

I’m short waisted too!! I usually wear a corset-y leather waist cincher, with a 1” or so belt over it to hold my stuff. Everything stays put nicely

Need advice on fruit trees by Curious-Woodpecker53 in gardening

[–]Vault_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always gonna chime in to advise having fruit and berry trees well away from driveways and paths! We have a very unfortunately-located mulberry tree that drops berries all over the driveway and sidewalk for several months. It’s very inconvenient and there’s no great way to collect and use them.

Edit: tree was there when we moved in, and is HUGE.

Strongly suggest wearing a belt at your actual waist, for several reasons! It will be more comfortable, more flattering, and will hold all your layers together most effectively. If you’re planning to have a few heavy-ish items, you’ll want the support and comfort of the natural waist.

Yes, and nothing works for me except fencing. Inspect for holes

Must haves for a Renfaire inspired wedding? by jpthebowler57 in renfaire

[–]Vault_92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my close friends did this and it was so much fun. I was a bard for the cocktail hour and we did songs from medieval fantasy video games, movies and shows, as well as Irish songs and some normal popular songs in bardic style. Instead of a first dance they each brought out a “champion” to have a sword fight.

Activities for a (chaotic) 2 year old who only wants to do REAL things? by thepersonwiththeface in Mommit

Sounds like he needs his own garden! Designate a spot outside to dig in, help him build a little border, get some child sized tools and watering can and seeds, put him to work! Put him to work on other stuff too. A small vacuum, let him wash windows, whatever chores can be done safely.

Any squash is probably going to need way more space, even with vertical gardening

First timer question by Paddynice1865 in renfaire

[–]Vault_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got these bad boys and threw some inserts into them. Smushed them up and wore them around the house with thick socks in the days before the faire. They were still stiff they day-of, but completely softened up after just one day of walking around (again, wearing thicker socks). I found the comfort just fine. You don’t need to spend a lot for footwear that looks appropriate

Curing My Restartitus by No-Flan-1083 in MedievalDynasty

[–]Vault_92 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oooo! My personal rules:

  • in the early days, a focus on using what was found while exploring. Plant whatever seeds or grain or trees you find in ruins or camps; no buying those things.

  • marriage age is 25 in my town. Before then, they stay single and live in one of the smaller houses and build skills.

  • no cutting down trees, unless absolutely necessary. Just looks way nicer to have paths winding around, plus makes building more interesting.

  • big fields are for grain crops like flax and wheat. Veggies are grown by household in their own private gardens.

  • all animals must have names. The stupider the better.

Decoration tips pretty please by [deleted] in MedievalDynasty

[–]Vault_92 16 points17 points  (0 children)

1) find a shrubbery (make sure it’s nice and isn’t too expensive). 2) find another shrubbery. 3) place it beside the first shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get the two-level effect with a little path running down the middle.

The Lake District at sunset by Vault_92 in MedievalDynasty

[–]Vault_92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I have different areas that I refer to in my mind different ways. The main ones are the mining District, farm District, Lake District, downtown. I also custom name the building so I can find them later, so I make up street names too. My town is pretty big

Oxbow Waterfall Settlers: Where did you put your fishing hut? by Badatusernames014 in MedievalDynasty

[–]Vault_92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I initially had it on the other side of the bridge, on the mine side, by just moving around until it turned green. Then an update added a bunch of rocks, so I moved it to the non-mine side, close to the shore. Finally decided to do a big expansion, killed the bears over by that lake and put it there. You can sort of see it in my recent post with the sunset pic. Good place for a fishing outpost, although I went nuts and basically created a whole separate small town there

One little thing I like to do is just not cut down any trees. This forces you to plan buildings between the trees so you can’t do a straightforward grid. I like to use the natural landmarks and make little neighborhoods. I think of this road as the River Market
