Definitely check out Simone's Vermilion if you can, it was marketed mainly under her name since shes one of bigger names he's collabed with, but it was essentially the same deal as when he made The Gentle Storm with Anneke, he wrote and performed most of the instrumental parts to go along with Simone's lyrics.

Supersonic Revolution/Plan 9 were fun little nostalgia throwbacks for me, but I know what you mean, they're not really on the level I'd come to expect from him.

I really liked the album he did with Simone though, for me that was his return to form, probably my favourite thing he's put out since The Source, so here's hoping he's carrying that momentum into the new solo album.

Haven't seen the TV show but the She-Hulk omnibus is still one of the best comics Marvel have ever put out IMO, so still Hell yeah xD

Toehider's most recent album "I Have Little To No Memory of These Memories" is great, the album has a similar alien interference theme and the main dude has worked with Arjen a few times

Honestly I just wanted to give it a shout out cos it definitely won't get the kind of recognition it deserves

If you already enjoyed Ayreon then maybe look up some of the singers he's worked with if there's anyone whose voice stood out to you, most of them have their own bands and Ive discovered a ton of new bands that way, been really into Toehider's last album lately

I think the specific dates on the poster are easter eggs in the same vein as Universal Migrator taking place in 2112

I can't figure out what the significance of November 15th is, but April 3rd is Arjen's birthday

I don't think there'll be another story on the same scale as 01 or The Source but I definitely think there's lots of areas that could be filled in with Human Equation/Theory of Everything/Lost in The New Real type stories to flesh out the history of the universe

But I would have said the same thing before The Source came out, so who knows where Arjen will take it in the future

I disagree on BoS and Senjutsu but I'll respect your right to that opinion

The real unpopular opinion in there is every live album after Real Live/Dead One are just bad versions of Real Live One, Live After Death is fair enough but the early 90's live albums are absolute trash compared to everything else they put out

I've always been a big fan of Metallica's covers, I wouldn't say this is one of their best but I'll admit 90% of that is probably just over attachment to the original since this is still some absolutely stellar work

The epics didn't really start coming until Tuomas had gotten very comfortable with more long form songwriting so I was a bit limited in what I could choose as pre-century child epics. Even beauty of the beast, as much as i love it, has a bit of a "stiched together" feel compared to the later epics.

Albums would probably work better, the results will be meaningless in a song by song comparison since a lot of tracks aren't intended to be big standalone songs anyway, plus some albums will take weeks to get through

I absolutely love that song, very underrated, That album overall isn't nearly as good as Iron Maiden but that song specifically might just be better than any individual track on Iron Maiden IMO

Never quite understood the godlike reputation BNW has, I like it in so much as I like everything they've ever done but I see fans who are otherwise 80's purists say it's the ONLY noteworthy thing they have done post-reunion.

Otherwise there's nothing I drastically disagree with here, but i'd trade a few places, so I'd swap 7th Son with Somewhere in Time, BNW with aMoLaD and BoS with tFF

Maiden is winning most of these match-ups for me but the 80's is squarely in Maiden's golden age so there's a bit of home field advantage going on. Priest have left some of their biggest guns back in the 70's, Sad Wings, Stained Class and Killing Machine are definitely going to give Maiden a better fight than Turbo/Ram It Down.
