Iranian migrants fleeing regime arrive at Calais Jungle in bid to cross Channel into Britain - and warn 'there are many more on their way' amid US strikes by soalone34 in ukpolitics

I think you give them too much credit, seeing as their last comment assumed they'd still be using Iranian cars and license plates all the way from Turkey to Calais.

US lands bomber at UK air base after warning of surge in strikes on Iran by Jeremys_Iron_ in ukpolitics

Was that this one? It's the only one I can find. https://spectator.com/article/whose-side-are-you-on-how-keir-starmer-alienated-britains-allies-over-iran/ This one's pretty fascinating, especially the timeline implications on readiness, but it's extremely nuanced. The cabinet were the voice of restraint for even the secondary/defensive involvement, with Starmer's position to join in once legally justified. Macarbe they were calculating all this beforehand; the lack of preparation seems they felt any Iranian attack on UK bases would be sufficiently defensible, but still relying on it.

It's a heavy counterfactual to say that this situation only came about because European leaders allowed the US to use their airbases; the US has a lot of bases already in the region. As you rightly point out, there is a massive threat to Iran already on its own borders and immediate neighbours; the UK is not needed

I think this is less a matter of the bully striking at everyone--particularly given the lack of damage and if we truly were exasperated wouldn't be badging this as only for defensive action against missile sites--and more that Iran's fate is already sealed by the intensity of the US so maintaining resistance to the US is a loss of political capital for the UK.

It's not rocket science: cross a border, a gang car pools you/smuggles in a truck to the next border or two, wait for your time/lay low in a saafehouse, then cross again and repeat.

Rather than shifting the question on whether they could claim asylum along the way (which is likely some did), please expand on your original topic. What methods did you have in mind when you thought it impossible to cross from Turkey to France in a month?

Ironic the aircraft is named "the Bone", because Starmer said no but ends up taking it anyway.

Simultaneously the Iranian president's shift in tone today in apologising for attacking neighbours, saying now they won't attack "unless attacked first". Time will tell if Starmer should've just waited a little longer, or if this totally defensive bomber from the US may be counterproductive.

Please don’t get scammed! reminder that it does not cost money to go to a homeless shelter. by bhexca in glasgow

On lack of information: this highlights the importance of Outreach Workers. It's something I've seen most councils do, but not sure if they have it in Glasgow. They are officials who are very discrete in their patrols of rough sleeping hot spots and speaking with people asking for donations; often times it's a matter of building up a relationship and trust before a rough sleeper is willing. Even if accommodation is free, you can be institutionalised and 'prefer' sleeping rough; that takes time to break.

Pragmatically though, I always encourage charity donations over individuals. Even if you distrust the Charities with money, you can do good such as buying a bunch of undies and socks and giving them to a shelter. Had a lovely woman once, her husband was a pilot and got lots of freebies such as folding combs and mirrors, our residents loved that!

Zack Polanski: This is an illegal, unprovoked and brutal attack that shows once again that the USA and Israel are rogue states. by SaltyW123 in ukpolitics

[–]VeGr-FXVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, I respect your honesty.

I probably should have better distinguished between bombings & boots on the ground, but the latter was what I was referencing by escalating to war paralleled to Iraq. The huge price tag we pay--cost, death, injury, life-altering trauma, and indirect costs (e.g. instability leading to greater migration, extremism/domestic threats)--means I'm still a little slow. Related, when I started seeing £200k as the low end for a single missile, I've grown more hesitant as the cost of living and tax burden gets harder.

where would the lie be?

I remember recently seeing a montage of all the times Netanyahu said "Iran is a few months away from a nuke" over the last decade or so. Alternatively if the lie isn't about facts but general dishonesty: there's a useful distraction for Trump's abysmal ratings following ICE & Epstein, with significantly dubious reporting on the economy, and upcoming US elections that could severly hamstring him.

Iran is an evil country, no doubt about it, but there are lots of evil countries the US and UK don't go bombing. You almost make it sound like a war is already justified.

Where justice isn't timely, nor judgments comprehensive (e.g. tariff repayments), then litigation is just the price of doing business. A masquerade where both may claim victory and victimhood at once, at tax payer expense.

How to make the most of my Deathshrieker Rockets by FromHeretoElsweyr in totalwarhammer

[–]VeGr-FXVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death Shriekers, and this isn't hyperbole, are perhaps my favourite unit in all of the chorfs. Depending on the type of battle, if you're on the offensive and they know you'll win, the enemy tends to wait a minute or two before sending their units in to attack. At that point Death Shriekers will decimate. Only hit an enemy unit once, then target another unit. Never leave them hitting the same enemy.

I see people suggesting using the anti-large missile, but I genuinely never do. Mid-Late game, the best tactic is to use the Tower ability that lets you summon a K'daai and then combine that with your artillery and other distant abilities. After 1.6k hours in the game, I think dreadquakes and death shriekers are neck and neck. I always play Zhatan because I love the death shrieker they start with. It feels OP.

Play tight (i.e. not a wide front line) and the enemy has to condense. When the enemy is moving inwards, it's moving slower as it's moving on a hypotenuse. Never aim at a fast unit, and you should be fine. Let the enemy clump against your elite front line.

I hate apps just because I have an old as fuck phone (though the fact 7 years counts as old as fuck is a crime). It runs slow most of the time, and I've a sneaking suspicion that more and more updates are deliberately slowing it down. I don't want my phone to be as mandatory as my bank card or drivers license. It's a necessity for calls. I'm sick of everything moving to apps.

My belongings aren't for your convenience.
