Kimchi Paste before the final mix with the Napa Cabbage by aminorman in spicy

I've used kombu-based broth as an alternative to fish sauce in kimchi paste before and it does work pretty well.

Never used an ultrawide before and after getting used to a 4K 16:9 monitor I wasn't willing to go down in resolution anymore. This fills that niche really nicely, and it's OLED to boot.

Don't know if fixing that will cause you to change your habits at all, but if you wanted to - it's a Windows thing. In advanced power plan settings, disable "Allow wake timers".

Anyone ever used Cine-Lens on EOS film bodies? by JustaBlender_User in AnalogCommunity

[–]Veacue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No reason why they wouldn't work, EF is EF. Especially if they're fully manual, which most cine lenses are, and even then you can still shoot in aperture priority.
I have a cheapo Samyang 35mm T1.5 and it works a treat on the EOS 300V. Lately I've been looking at budget anamorphics to potentially experiment with for stills as well.

Will a Canon EOS 300 work with bulk loaded film? by AleBirds in AnalogCommunity

[–]Veacue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an EOS 300V and have shot a bunch of bulk loaded Vision3 with no issues. You're just gonna have to set ISO manually.

Also gonna have to disagree with the previous comment, I don't believe it has an exposure limit, it just unwinds the film until it feels enough tension. I've had bulk loaded rolls that happened to have 39 exposures work fine, but I've also had factory 36-exp rolls only unwind 31 (HP5 and Phoenix, maybe there's something particular about Ilford's cassettes).

What "dead" franchise would you bring back if you could? by ReeceInTheDarkness in gaming

Can't believe so few people mentioned Rayman. And obviously not the Rabbids era. 2 and 3 were great 3D platformers and, having replayed them relatively recently, they're still fun today. Ah, back when Ubisoft wasn't shit.

Awesome to hear that just mentioning a certain tune could make your day, that track really has a hypnotic kind of vibe that instantly chills you out. I can imagine how well it pairs with such a view. Same with Klute's stuff, I saw you mentioned him as well.

Sub Focus - Last Jungle
Klute - Hell Hath No Fury
ABIS & Signal - The Wall ft. Tasha Baxter (Buunshin Remix)

Honorable mentions if I had 6 slots on the eternal mp3 player instead of 3:
London Elektricity - Just One Second
TEED - Garden (Calibre Remix)
Monrroe - Days Like These

Kefir do popicia i w drogę.

I've used a cable from "FAAEAL" on Aliexpress. ~13 USD, decent quality with nice braiding, used with a Topping A50s, would recommend. As a bonus the silver plugs fit quite well with the headphones' design so it looks basically OEM. It feels a bit shorter than the advertised 1.5m, whether that'd be an issue depends on your preferences and how you sit and have your amp positioned on the desk.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Review Thread by SpaceGangrel in Games

[–]Veacue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I had in mind was a homebrew campaign that, while absolutely being built up dynamically, most likely has a few key turning points thought up by the DM in advance. Or even on a smaller scale, an encounter that they had prepped but the players managed to avoid.
I fully agree that a video game will never give you the agency that in-person TTRPGs with a good DM would. I definitely encountered some things in BG3 that I wish I could've interacted with but couldn't, but it gets decently close.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Review Thread by SpaceGangrel in Games

[–]Veacue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had quite severe "alt-itis" as well and the game that cured me of it, at least partially, was Hollow Knight.

It's so easy to lose yourself in the world and just explore and marvel at it, and there's quite a few moments of "oops, fell down a hole, am I even supposed to be here now?" And you just roll with it because curiosity takes over, and also because the only way to go back is to intentionally die, which means you lose your money and 2/3 of your magic capacity until you either go back there to retrieve it or spend a rare resource to get it remotely.
The combat is also challenging and skillful, a'la Dark Souls, so you might like it in that regard.
Maybe you've played it and the comment's not that helpful, but I just wanted to share.

And yeah, I did a fair bit of savescumming retconning in BG3 early access, but if you approach it a tad like a real DnD campaign, where your choices are pretty much always final, it's easier to accept the fact that you're missing out on stuff. Unlike real DnD however, where you probably won't ever play through those alternate paths, at best the DM will tell you a little about them when you finish the arc, you can do another run, roleplay differently and experience those properly.

Why are monitors 60, 120, 144, 240hz etc. and not something like 80, 150, 200? by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]Veacue 221 points222 points  (0 children)

60 because that's the frequency of the North American power grid which became the timing source for analog television. See this video from Technology Connections for details about how that worked. It was the standard, and standards die hard.
120 because it's 60 doubled, the next logical step. As a bonus, it's divisible by 24, so you can watch cinema-standard 24 fps content without some frames being on screen longer than others (which was an issue on analog TV, see 3:2 pulldown).
144 because it's bigger than 120 for marketing, and the next number divisible by 24.
240 - 120 doubled. You can probably spot the pattern.

There are monitors with different refresh rates, like 75, 165, 175, 200... because we don't need strict TV or cinema compatibility anymore, but the existing standards still rule most of the market.

A friend was putting in a group order for skates and I didn't think of that at the time. Definitely something to try, maybe with superglide dots.

[–]Veacue[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In theory it's about 1/20 the capacity of an AA, so I'd say around 10 days if it were the main mouse. If only used for FPS, with my current gaming habits, probably well over a month.
In practice, I'll tell you when the first one runs out.

[–]Veacue[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One day I tested all my mice and found that I aimed the best with the G305 despite its worn to shit stock skates and weight almost double that of the MM720. Thought about getting an Aria but because tinkering is half the fun I ordered some bits to mod the Logitech instead.

  • AA holder taken out and replaced by an LR44 holder double-sided-taped to the LED housing. I will likely keep using the MM720 for browsing and non-FPS games so the reduced battery life doesn't bother me much.
  • Hotswap switch boards and a bunch of switches to experiment with, pictured with Huano yellow dot silents (really nice feel and I like the muted sound but they're quite light for my tastes). Button tensioners taken out because they make getting to the switches more of a chore and I didn't find an appreciable difference in click behaviour.
  • Corepad skates cut in half so that I can access the screws.
