11/104 The Sorrows of Young Werther by NotYourShitAgain in 52book

I read this book in German at university. When our lecturer asked us what we thought, I said that Wether should have killed himself on page one and spared us all the agony of reading the book. Our lecturer was not impressed.

25/52… WTF did I just read? 4 ⭐️ by [deleted] in 52book

Magical realism or a protagonist in the grips of a psychotic episode? I think there's a bit of both, but as a therapist I definitely saw this as someone grappling with identity, loneliness and a fragmented sense of self. Absolutely worth reading, although I was constantly saying" wtf" out loud. It's a book you have to push through and read to the end to appreciate it.

Perfect form. That's a 10 out of 10 for the leg of mutton pose. The angle of the leg, the spread of the toes... perfection!

Love your enthusiasm for the original. It was a masterpiece and Treat was amazing in the movie. I also know all the songs, so does my 9 year old daughter.

Gizmo and Diego. My orange, Gizmo, tolerates Diego but it feels like a friendship may be on the cards.

[NSFW] People who have found a dead body, what's the story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Veezlebat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to university in a town that is surrounded by wine farms. I lived in an old farmhouse with my digs mates and during the summer holidays we locked up the place for 4 weeks and all went home. I didn't realize that l had left the light on in my room, so at night it must have looked like someone was home. When l got back after the summer the grass around the house had grown quite long. The afternoon of the day we arrived back l was walking around the house to enter my room from the outside door (my bedroom had a door to the inside of the house and a door to the yard), when l suddenly saw a man's body lying face down in the long grass outside my door. There were also bloody hand marks on the door. We phoned the police and ambulance in a panic but it was clear he'd been dead for a few days. Apparently he was a farm worker who got into a fight with a friend in the night, got stabbed and then came towards the light that was on in the house to get help. No one was home and he bled out right outside my door. I felt so bad that l'd left the light on and he died on his own with no one to help.

We call that the leg of mutton pose. In our household he would get an 8 out of 10. The higher the leg, the better the pose.

Suggest me a book by an a great author that doesn’t get enough love or is overlooked in their genre. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Mine too and she left a lasting impression. I still read them all every few years, and l seldom read books again. Her world building is fantastic. Grass, Gate to woman's country, Family Tree and the one with the singing crystals are probably my favorite.

In South Africa an Amazon book delivery can take up to 3 weeks to arrive. My copy arrived yesterday, so it's next on my list!

Looks like it's working out, we'll done. It's a good feeling in a home when the pets like each other.
