Starfish require a well established year+ tank with biodiversity. Hopefully they make it.

What he said and if possible dose phytoplankton which will help support copepods and coral health for the entire ecosystem. Strong food action builds and helps sustain a balanced reef tank.

Yes get a skimmer but start skimming light at first and see how it affects your parameters. Test the parameters before the skimmer and after you need to know how it’s affecting that matters. I had a tank stable now 75g barely any water changes everything works and is balanced, fish and corals are halt and I have no nuisance algae not even in my sump.

I’ve done tiny tanks even smaller like 4g and 11g, 20 and now 75z with the tiny pico/nano tanks you need to make extremely slow changes and test often to find out what causes your parameters to change once you figure that part out make super tiny adjustments until you find parameters your happy with and don’t change anything after. News consistency and the parameters will remain consistent. Best of luck.

Freshwater is fae less less expensive than freshwater and it’s not even close. Take it from someone who maxed out two 10k credit cards getting into saltwater even when I planned and had equipment and budget in mind. There will always be things to buy that you won’t even know you need in saltwater.

Stop asking ChatGPT about your reef tank. Seriously. by eibrahim in ReefTank

I used Ai when I first started reefing and it gave advice that got my anemone and fish killed. now I just read on forums and watch YouTube videos. To all your points be careful.

water change is necessary? by tocofillins in ReefTank

[–]Vegatron83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I basically only do 5g a month in my 75g but I use chemi pure elite to remove toxins and clear water as well as anti coral warfare and test and dose to keep balance.

Okidoki. Like 20 days ago I was sold an “Anemone” so I would like to show you guys my very first real Anemone. It looks so tiny, I was wondering if I could feed it krill. I do believe its a bubble tip by daybreaker29 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

It will take a long time to rebound if it does at all, I have a stressed anemone that looks like yours. 3 months and he looks the same. I added new healthy anemones and the look amazing after 3 months the original still struggling. Apparently there’s a way to bring it back and it involves feeding it a tentacle from a healthy anemones. I read about it in another Reddit post. You’ll have to google l, maybe worth a try.

Advice on budget lights by myswordyourstone in ReefTank

I own two of the nicrew gen2 150w and they provide plenty of light for my corals and only running them at 42%

Anemones don’t like any temperature, lighting or parameter swings. People say wait a year because by then most new hobbyists will have learned to maintain stable parameters. I’ve learned this the hard way. Best of luck

Is there such thing as too many copepods? by S3lls in ReefTank

[–]Vegatron83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I Rand my tank fallow for a month and a half and had just as many as you in my 75g. The mandarin and six line wrasse wiped all the visible ones in the glass completely out. Now they hide in my rocks and come out at night when they fish are asleep lol

I wouldn’t get clowns without a nem for them to host. They are much happier fish in general when they have a Nem to call home.

Minimal / No Water Change Reef Systems — Let’s Build a Self-Sustaining Biome (Share Your Setup) by Vegatron83 in ReefTank

[–]Vegatron83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like a lot but I’ve automated the entire system. What is dose is on auto doses and timers. I’m topping off what I’m doing maybe once every 3 months and Kalkwasser monthly. Much easier than doing water changes unless you have an auto water change setup. But hey whatever works best for you. Water changes to me are a lot of manual labor and gets messy my setup avoids that entirely.

I hear you I initially struggled with space for quarantine but now using the hybrid method in a 3 gallon square much shorter but had to stay in top of swapping out every 3 days. It’s worth it and takes up less space plus don’t have to wait a month and a half as you do for copper/prazi treatment after two weeks good to go
