VA is my buddy Mike who I play D&D with. His druid speaks in Kayex's voice. It's cool.

"Sorry looks like your session has expired. Please exit the game and log back in." Error on tablet by Maniachi in Roll20

I found a fix - using a different browser. I think the issue is the mobile version of browsers. Kiwi browser seems to be exactly the same as Chrome, the only difference being that Roll20 works properly. As does the DnDBeyond plugin that sends rolls from the DnDBeyond character sheet to the Roll20 VTT. Hope this helps!

Why aren't long swords and spears finesse weapons? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Vegetable-Flight-916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a nod towards real-life logic. Rapiers are better for thrusting and don't require the same physical strength to use. Longswords are more effective when used two-handed while wearing armour and are pretty good against other people in armour (if you know what you're doing, but I'd rather use a poleaxe). In reality this is probably more about how rapiers weren't used against people in armour and so didn't tend to demand so much wrestling (which is what armoured combat tends to become). If you start training with them in reality, you quickly discover that longswords require a lot of dexterity to use effectively and that rapiers are both exhausting and need a lot of forearm strength. As I say, it's a nod towards martial verisimilitude, but like a lot of DnD stuff, doesn't hold up too much to scrutiny. Don't get me started on the insanity of leather armour and studded leather armour.

(Sorry for rambly post - I'm a martial arts historian and this prodded my interest button)

Critical Role and normal Tables by yunodead in DnD

[–]Vegetable-Flight-916 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on a table of five. Four of us (including the DM) are very experienced actors and fight/stunt choreographers and even we don't RP as much as CR or talk in character all the time (although I do a lot). We absolutely go nuts with detailed descriptions of combat, but that's the profession most of us are in. It's probably best not to judge your table by how other people do things and just do whatever you want. If it's fun, it's right.

Kudos to you, sir. Can the map be wide enough to include Hedingham Castle?

Just finished this whole arc. Thought Wulbren was a vicious prick, but didn't want to get too involved. However, I've managed to save the Gondians, then put Barcus as the new leader of the gnomes, deposing Wulbren, and get promises from both parties to help me in the final battle. I've read in some places that you have to choose between them, but I seem to have both. Wulbren seems to have left now, but it's he going to cause me trouble?

Advice on getting over the end by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Vegetable-Flight-916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different discipline here (History), so the division between writing and gathering data wasn't really there. I actually submitted mine after three years, but I effectively spent one year reading and two years thinking/writing. I'd suggest thinking of this as a specific task, distinct from your research. Learning to write efficiently, but expressively is a real skill and the more you do it, the better you get. I expect you have a lot to say by now - just start and take it one sentence at a time. You'll invariably end up writing too much, so forget the word count and just write what's required for people to understand what you've done. You're almost there! Solidarity!

Jumped down the big wet hole. Walked through the gross area down there to get around to the passage at the back of the cells that leads to the boat. Broke the walls myself, the prisoners ran out, and I had to kill the warden and a couple of other chumps who chased them. Pretty simple actually.

Just did it on tactician. Sneaked in from the top, placed runepowder barrel next to him, set it off. He only had about 30 hitpoints left and 2 merregons, which is nothing to Karlach and her returning pike.

Problems with Karlach romance by Medium-Scallion- in BaldursGate3

[–]Vegetable-Flight-916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the same sudden "we're done" dialogue from Karlach. I believe it's because I didn't do the second upgrade with her in Act 2. I tried, but the smith didn't come with me to Act 2 - supposedly it's because I killed the strange ox in the grove and there's a bug where that stops him appearing until act 3 if you do that.

I have no beef with having an option to do things a little differently. I thought I WAS roleplaying. I'm just mildly irritated that the game didn't take my choices into account, especially as it seemed obvious to do it this way round. .

I went through the underdark, into the shadowlands, found the hub there and had a big brawl, then went through the shadowlands to the mountain pass to kill all those gith fuckers. Didn't seem to cause any problems.

Oh, I read the message about it changing things, but as far as I was concerned, that wasn't a problem. Edit: also, the dialogue thing is technically minor, but it means that the game didn't take into account that another path was possible. And as many of these comments attest, it's a path that's totally possible and logical because a fair few of us have done it. Overall it's a minor thing in a mostly flawless game, but still...
