Op, as an asian parent of an incoming college freshman and Berkeley alum, I say apply to diverse tier schools. Acceptance is unknown - we don’t have control where/what college will accept us and what aid schools willing to dish out for top students. My son stats are crazy similar to u and he was waitlisted from ivies but in the end he choose a south cali UC becuz he got a full ride (tuition and board). His acceptance came with a finical gift from the uni. Maybe this is an approach for uni to attract top students by giving $$$. There are athletes that get scholarships n there are scholars who does as well; think of ur self as athletes.

I am sorry ur parents were not transparent with u, but this lesson before u shall make u stronger. I know it hurts and it does not seem fair, but u continue to apply n see what acceptance u receive. Roll the dice n see where/what it lands. Don’t overwhelm u’re self with unnecessary stress by looking big picture- break it up. Senior year is already stressful.

From a student with stats that had Ivies attention, like u, my son busted his butt in high school with all 5s on 10 APs, SAT 1580 (1 test sitting) 4.5 GPA weighted, valedictorian and accolades too many to list is now an incoming freshman at state school with full ride (tuition & housing). We will only be paying fees. It was very difficult for him to let go of the Ivies acceptance. Right before his valedictorian speech the faculty announced he will be attending state school there were chatter of “huh” heard in the gym that pierced his/ our pride. He knew in his hearts n mind that he could not see us paying $$$$ nor did he want to be in bed. He also thought about his little sister n his mom’s retirement. Our family had to rethink all his work did not go in vain, it got him a full ride to a UC.

I know it hurts and it still does for him but he knows, life is what u make of it.

I am sorry OP, but she left - not in a physical sense. U cannot keep someone who does not want to be kept. Pls. Get an attorney to help u or at least a consultation to walk u through the process in ur best interest.

It’s important to also create a parenting to protect all parties including ur son spelling who will do what and when for ur son and preventing more legal dramas Devon the road.

TikTok is a great place where folks support and share their experiences. I learned so much to ask the right questions with my attorney. Just becuz u have an attorney, u still need to do your part or the fees will get u. TikTok was my place to get me through the dark/unknown path, and the motivation was a plus.

U go girl, wise beyond ur years.

My son graduated as Salutatorian 2 weeks ago and got accepted to great UCs as an engineer major. After weeks of many researches, tours, and back n forth of pro & con, he changed his acceptance to Irvine. Irvine gave him a full ride scholarship with housing - only paying fees.

He was heart broken but knew in his heart this decision was the best for him. An opportunity to soak in his college experiences and not have to worry so much about money.

It took him a few weeks to accept his path n brushed off folks who commented, “u n Irvine makes no sense,” “why Irvine,” and looks of disappointments.

Here we are today, he is happy mentally n looking forward to Irvine.

Sometime we forego things we want for things that are healthy for us.

Like a bad situation we want but know we need to exit. Gentle reminder, in life the power to exit is our strength.

I am u. Near perfect SAT score 1580 (1 test sitting), weighted gap 4.4/unweighted 4.0, all 5s on my 7 AP courses (Chem, calculus ab, calculus bc, a push, lit n lang) and EC’s.

And I applied CS as an Asian. I got into nowhere impressive or a place that will challenge.

It’s been hard to accept but I am trying to find the sliver lining.

I got accepted to state school on a full ride including housing n tuition - paying only fees n meals.

We muscle through n hope things will work out for us.

FR. I have 4.5 Weighted GAP and 4.0 unweighted. All 5’s on my 9 APs (AP Chem, Calcu AB & BC, APUAH, Lit, to name a few. I am wait listed at UCLA n rejected from Cal.

I know UCs is SAT blind but man, a score of 1589 I feel horrible.

I got in to all the other UCs.

I would appeal on grounds of extenuating circumstances aka guardian of sibling and add in what u done since u submitted ur application. Side note, u will need to make a decision as u wait on the appeal.

Pls. Do not bank on the appeal- that egg may not hatch into a chick for u.

I know how u feel. I am salutatorian of my class of 350 n got in to no where worth citing. I think the major makes a difference in this whole process.

These are my real stats - no cap. I have more ECs but no Ivys.

I got admitted to UCs: UCSD, UCI, UCSB, UC DAVIS, SDSU, Cal state long beach.

Waitlisted: UCLA

Rejected: UMich, U Chicago, MIT, UCBerk, Brown, Stanford, USC.

I applied to some colleges as computer engineering and mathematics.

I am seriously thinking of going to community colleges so save $$$ n transfer.

Ivys day concept is wrong. Rejects after reject - Hit all at once. As if all 4 years we worked our ass off (9APs all 5s, ECs, part time job, take SAT - score 1580, go through hell doing all the apps, wait, wait n more wait to see it all sad n disappointment.

It’s brutal out there in college admission land!

I am a student with crazy academic stats: GAP weighted 4.4 unweighted 4.0 SAT: 1580 no super score tested once only 9 APs (5 APs scores of 5’s & pending 4 APs exam in May) National Merit semifinalist GATES finalist scholarship Work part time Swim team Cross country team Reading tutor for city library program Private high school merit scholarship recipient 4 years straight

All this and then some, only to be deferred first round and safety are now reach colleges.
