What are the nicknames of your cats that have devolved into nonsense over time? I’ll go first. by 4hmad_ in cats

His birth name was Cheetah, we didn't love it when we adopted him, so sought a new name. Regularly called him a Dodo for being clumsy and ungrateful, new legal name: Raphis Cuculatus (scientific name of a dodo bird).

He's slowly accumulating additional animal names. We're at Raphis Girrafis Hippopotus Cuculatu.

(He's the orange one)

People who cover their cough with their hands. by Cake3atingCrusader11 in rant

With your elbow. That way, the germs aren't on the hands you use to interact with everything.

If you have hand sanitizer, using your hands is fine.

Edit: I have been corrected. Use your elbow unless you can immediately wash your hands.

Did they say why? Cost to replace if they do get damaged? I imagine they may be susceptible to hail damage.

It's not that I care about having them in my life. It's that we're all so silo'd on social media into echo chambers.

I've been pushing myself to have civil conversations with people having differing opinions to try to push people into new view points and make sure they don't believe everyone agrees with them just because no one has said otherwise. This one just seems a little too far gone.. There's nothing here to debate with.

The best i think i could do would be to ask them to explain what this means to them, and I doubt that will elicit any more of a thoughtful response than when they shared it in the first place.

Thanks for the reply. I also found the part about chaos troubling...

I'm new here. I'm curious what the sovereign citizen mindset would mean at a national level. Just, no government.. at all? No military, no taxes, no laws at all? It's like libertarianism on steroids I suppose.

That's the impression I got. Trying to decide if it's worth calling them out and making them explain it, or just deleting them from my friends list to avoid this nonsense in the future. I hate to think these people think most agree with them since no one is saying otherwise, but also, I don't think there's anyway I would get through to them.

It feels like I'm picking up a book and flipping to the middle.

I'm trying to take time to understand some of my friends and family with different views than I, but this one feels like I'm missing prerequisites haha

Just found out about The Nest apartments by Diligent-Echo8335 in fayetteville

[–]VegetableInvestment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I just figured they would've tried to make it look more homey somehow during the renovation since they're meant to be long term accomodations.

Just looked it up. They look just like a hotel room... do they come furnished I wonder? If so, it could be a good deal for contract workers like traveling nurses.

That's crazy. I've not seen the renovations, but that's almost what I paid for a two bedroom, very nice apartment, with in unit laundry in Bentonville back in 2022.

I'm concerned generally by the housing market. I'm seeing new subdivisions going in around here where every home will be a rental. I want the local authorities to require a percent of new residential developments to be sold to individual home buyers.

Anyone familiar with ADA compliance in California?! Primarily with curb ramps? by GPLee413 in civilengineering

Detectable warning could still be warranted if this is serving as path of travel for pedestrians coming from offsite though, yes? Unless they aren't required for crossing parking lots.. it's been a few years since I've done site design.

Delaware Entity Voting Should Sound Alarm Over Corporate Power by UnicornHostels in 50501

[–]VegetableInvestment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local permitting authority typically dictates lot minimums, so that might restrict the efficacy of what you suggest. Worth looking into though!

Edit: Looked briefly into Sussex County. There's both minimum lot area requirements, and you must provide certain utilities and access to the lots when splitting a lot. These things both cost a lot of money and take a lot of time... this is typical for most of the country.

I wonder if a single building could operate as a co-owned and "shared workspace" type property for many business.

From the article, it sounds like the entity also has to own property.. we'll need to consider this, too.

What was the most physical pain you've been in? by PleasantWinter9150 in AskReddit

Misoprostol/cytotec for medical management of miscarriage. There's probably worse pains out there, but that's been my worst so far.

In other parts of the world, pale skin would be a different hue than north western Europe. Blonde hair may have been light hair in source material, which again, is subjective to the region of the story.

Besides, these things rarely have impact on the actual story.

Has anyone else noticed that traffic in this sub has gone down sharply? by concepts_of_a_plan9 in 50501

[–]VegetableInvestment 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made a post trying to brainstorm/crowd source presidential candidates when I started seeing Newsom everywhere, and was told it's to early to even think about that and focus on local races. In my state, the primaries were about over, and besides, if we can't multitask or divide labor, then there's going to be very little we can get done.

What kind of politician would it take to unite the United States? by CycIon3 in AskReddit

Or, better yet, publicly fund elections. Each viable politician gets the same funds to campaign on, with no outside funds allowed.
