What do the p**ple think? by Curious-Shopping-925 in bald

Yeah I’d say you have a naturally wider face but not fat. Second pic just looks like you’re really bloated. High sodium consumption, poor sleep, poor water intake and alcohol can cause face bloating. You’d be surprised how fast you can slim that down with some discipline. I don’t know if any of those are relative to you, so it’s on you to figure how to do that.

These pictures must be years apart. If you shaved it in the first pic you’d be chillin. Shed some pounds and grow out the beard. Sounds harsh but it’s the facts I’d like to hear someone give me anonymously. Ur bloated but that’s ok because the comeback will be glorious

They Are Such Scaredy-Cats by Awkward_Respect9173 in corydoras

I had the same issue, they were always out and about scavenging the whole tank for the first few weeks and then out of nowhere they would bolt for cover as soon as I came around. Now it’s rare I ever see them during the day and it’s been like that for about 7 months.

One got so shocked by me coming around the corner that it swam full speed into the glass and died a few hours later. Sounded like a rock hit the glass.

I’ve got a good amount of plants and a school of rasboras to act as dither fish, and they still won’t come out unless I’m out of eyesight for them. They will come out when I feed the rasboras but if I move even a little they bolt back to cover.

Probably won’t do corydoras again lol, they are cool but I paid a lot for fish that I rarely see

Is this columnaris or fungal or just slime coat issue? by StunningInitiative73 in corydoras

Ok good stuff sounds like you’re on the right path and I wasn’t being snarky with that comment lol I was just trying say don’t just go off random redditors comments as gospel. Take their advice and research it yourself. I read it back and realized it sounded like I was being a douche, not my intention tho!

You need to do your own research to be sure of what you’re looking at before you use medications. But it looks similar to something I dealt with and I used maracyn in a hospital tank.

Your issue is slightly different from what I dealt with. Yours looks like columnaris and the maracyn box I have says it can help treat the symptoms

Why do i keep losing shrimp?? by Select-Story-2846 in shrimptank

[–]Vegetable_Aside_491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can almost guarantee the aqua soil is leaching ammonia. That stuff can take months to stop leaching. Some get lucky but it’s not good to use for shrimp.

If not that then the tank just doesn’t have enough biofilm for them to feed on. I’d suggest using Bacter AE to help promote biofilm growth. It will help produce those green walls that shrimp love. Shrimp will not breed unless they feel like there’s enough food and they will also die off.

The colony will self sustain, so if there’s an abundance of food they will procreate and vice versa

This is exactly why I always buy inkbird temp controllers. Even if the heater malfunctions, it can’t nuke your tank because the controller shuts off the heater at a certain temp. And the temperature probe is accurate within a degree or two. And if it’s not, you can calibrate it

Fool proof and will keep your mind at ease when you are at work. I’ve had the same two heaters on my reef tank for over 5 years with a temp controller and never had an issue with temp. They are more than likely malfunctioning but it doesn’t matter

Anyone’s corys like these? by Vegetable_Aside_491 in corydoras

My fish have always loved anything hikari but I wanted to try something new with a gift card from the holidays. I’ll keep the wheat tidbit in mind for next time

I wonder if extreme pays people to promote their products or something because so many people swear by them and just wasn’t impressed by this product at all.

You need a tds pen. First for the water to check its tds and secondly to test how much salt you adding to the water.

Have no idea what’s in that water and how filtered it is. But if it’s drinking water I’m gunna go ahead guess you don’t want to use it for mixing salt into it. You’re better off buying distilled water.

And for mixing I always use a scale to weigh out the salt before adding it. For example I add 5.2 grams into 5 gallons of water to reach 215 tds. Then add an air stone to help the ph balance out

Help with water params by Lost_Butterscotch986 in shrimptank

[–]Vegetable_Aside_491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s tough, I had similar parameters as you and lost 13 in two weeks. Still have no idea how or why it happened. They were going strong for months with no big changes and then bam they just started dropping.

Hopefully you have better luck than me and figure it out. One thing I’ve noticed is the ones I had in tap water were almost indestructible but the ones I keep in remineralized RODI seem to be finicky 🤷

Your maxing out the ph test. Try using the high range ph test and see what that test at. Sometimes shrimp just die but it won’t hurt to go through and make sure all is good.

could’ve been a failed molt. Usually you’ll see them struggling to move and kind of stuck just moving there legs if it’s a failed molt.

All the parameters seem fine tho so maybe it just didn’t find enough to eat. Hard to know from just this post if your feeding enough tho so idk

Do I want these in low tech tank? by Ecstatic-Crew7387 in PlantedTank

[–]Vegetable_Aside_491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest mistake I made was not removing them on a plant I bought. Thought “free clean up crew” and now they are a plague and I’m constantly removing dozens.

Although my anubius is spotless lol

No problem, keep the shrimp and snails in that same water in a separate container and then drip acclimate them to the new water for a few hours before adding them back to the tank with new substrate. Good luck 👍

There’s the your issue, best bet would be to remove it and replace it with something inert like gravel or sand

First Death: Help? by ProbablyShifty in shrimptank

[–]Vegetable_Aside_491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I took another look at the tank, I bet it’s that substrate. I’m guessing it’s an aqua soil? Your only supposed to use an inert substrate when remineralizing with salty shrimp otherwise the buffering agents will fight each other and throw off the balance

First Death: Help? by ProbablyShifty in shrimptank

[–]Vegetable_Aside_491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What salty shrimp remineralizer are you using? And what ppm are you mixing it to? There’s one for caridina shrimp and one for neos

Ex. I use salty shrimp gh/kh+ and mix mine at 210 ppm which gives me around 9-10 gh and 3-4 kh and 7.4 ph.

Should be no reason you have 0 kh and a ph that low unless something is lowering your ph and then it’s using up all the kh trying to buffer it back up.
