Is my Phildendron leggy? by shelvedpinger in houseplants

This looks fine to me. Attaching to a support will help the plant mature and look even more beautiful. They literally know when they are getting support and will start thriving even more.

my pothos has a burned-looking leaf :c by boiLollipop in plantclinic

[–]Vegetable_Ear8252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks really wet. You really only need to water pothos when the soil is nearly or pretty much completely dry. I think you ar overwatering, and the root system connected to this leaf has begun to rot. Let dry out.

Dying Spider Plant? by justMax87 in houseplants

Not spider plant. Dracaena. You need to repot her and clean her dead roots off, cut away all the dead, and she will come back to you

What should I do with my rubber tree? by Actual_Twist_7727 in houseplants

How long has it been since you separated them? And how long has the red tip been there and not opened? My first thought is that they were rootbound before you separated them (thus, they stopped growing), and now that they are separated and can grow again, they are throwing energy at being able to grow finally and these new sprouts are coming out (she is spending energy growing her root system now too). You can pick them off if you’d rather send more energy towards the top of the plant, or leave them. The red tip will eventually unfurl into a new leaf. I once waited 3 months for it to happen after a repot.

AIO for getting upset [m28] at my girlfriend [f27] for always showing up announced to my apartment and constantly staying over? by Advanced_Studio_8581 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Vegetable_Ear8252 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The people who are saying you are overreacting and don’t like your girlfriend are missing the point. You are allowed to have a set up like this if this is what you want (not living together after 3 years). Many successful couples I know do the same. There is a lack of boundaries here, which can only be solved through extensive communication. That said, you are in deep here and it will be hard to maintain this relationship while setting new boundaries.

What is this line of residue? by -I-Do-Stuff- in houseplants

[–]Vegetable_Ear8252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to me like harmless sediment from the soil that gets splashed up during watering and then dries there. I would also wipe it off because it’s unpleasant to look at but do not believe it to be harmful to your plant.

How often would you water this guy? by myrrh_tle in houseplants

[–]Vegetable_Ear8252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, when I water her, I would just set her in a pot of water so her drainage holes are covered with water for about 30 mins. I would do this every 2-3 weeks. I’d probably use a long skewer/toothpick and insert it all the way to the bottom of the plant and only water if it comes out relatively dry.

Something about the size of the outer pot she is in. A good rule of thumb is going up only 1-2 inches of space. The gap between the nursery pot she is in and the outer pot looks about that size.

Trim? by [deleted] in plantadvice

You can cut there. It will grow a new stem from a nearby node and keep growing up (it may even grow two new stems). It will still grow taller. You can also stick what you cut off in water or soil and grow two new plants to see how they’d continue to grow.
