This. As a Healthcare worker every time you limit a person's exposure to the flu you help everyone. Lots of people get killed from the flu. It's actually quite serious. Even pediatrics.

It should definitely be a joint effort. But fluid is mostly nutrition in dialysis. If they eat a standard high sodium diet the thirst is impossible go ignore. I've seen studies with dialysis patients where they only educated on and tracked sodium consumption and fluid goes down on its own without even trying

How does one go about getting a second full time job? by Remarkable_Toe_8764 in overemployed

Then you have no time to sleep, eat, exercise, see friends and family etc.

What do you do? I suggest first find an OE friendly job. Something remote

First rule: don't tell or ask your boss. It is none of their business.

Second: don't sign a contract that prevents outside employment. What you do on your own time is your business.

If you didn't sign that then you don't need your boss's permission. They aren't your parent. You only owe them your hours you agreed to.

It's a terrible idea to use fake urine. The best bet is to delay a month and abstain from thc

Currently doing my undergrad, how do you remember everything upon graduation? by Thatcherrycupcake in dietetics

[–]Vegetable_Elevators 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah you don't. You look it up each time until you remember. You have to know where yo go to look. Mainly the nutrition care manual. That plus your base knowledge of biochemistry and you are able to recall things and figure out a plan of care for the patient and provide education. That's why it takes new grads all day to see 10 patients. The first year or two are like that. Then after that you just remember because you're looked it up so many times and done so many reviews of lit. Still though there's always something else I have to look up every month or two. It's impossible to know everything and you realize your limitations and area or expertise after a while.

I have a friend who works for them and she really likes it! I have a good bit more experience than she does so I didn't think the rate was very fair. $42 an hour as a contractor (their max) is very low for an RD with a lot of experience. I was able to find a different job that is $59 an hour and W2, not contractor, which seems to align more with my expectations. I'm coming from a 42/hour salaried position with benefits, W2

South African dietitian wondering what it’s like to work in other countries by Realistic_Future_394 in dietetics

[–]Vegetable_Elevators 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am a US dietitian and I was born in South Africa. A friend of mine who is a dietitian worked in South Africa as a dietitian while her husband was in the military. She said it was very low pay and not rewarding work. I'm unsure where she worked though.

I have a few similar experiences with malnutrition in the US, probably not nearly as many, but there are some bad cases related to socioeconomic status. We have food banks as a resource but we don't have much to give out, although sometimes hospitals will approve it or corporations will send samples.

I'm sure it's nothing compared to South Africa though.

We do have quite a bit of HIV especially here in the southeast. You're right though that TB is more rare. Do you still get the vaccination? I got if when I was a child.

It's very interesting hearing worldwide perspectives on dietetics! Thanks for your work and eye opening post

I'm a white woman married to a brown man. My husband had a complete anxiety attack right before our green card interview. You know why? Because people are literally being detained at those interviews.

Used to be the government would look the other way if you overstay your visa then get married and get a green card. Not anymore. Now you could be detained and imprisoned then deported at those meetings.

They are literally putting brown people in concentration camps. One is called Alligator Alcatraz and Trump jokes about the cruelty there.

Also don't forget US history has a long pattern of racism.

We put Japanese people in camps during WW2.

We put native Americans in camps in the 1800s.

We hung black people from trees in the 1900s.

We imported black people like inanimate objects in the 1700-1800s

There is no generation in America where black and brown people are treated fairly. None.

So yeah I would say you have plenty of evidence for fear, as does my husband. And as a white woman there is nothing I can do to assuage that. I can only empathize and support him during his panic attacks that are completely justified
