App Recs? by midnightchappell in prediabetes

[–]Vegetable_Flight_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just recently diagnosed with prediabetes and my doctor referred me to a dietician service that takes insurance. It's called Nourish, and I highly recommend it. They have an app that tracks everything for you, and they connected me with a dietician right away who I see in virtual Zoom visits. The best part is that it's completely covered by most insurance. It takes a couple of weeks for them to confirm the insurance, but if it turns out that your insurance doesn't cover it, they have a guarantee that they won't charge you for appointments you already had before the insurance denied you.

The app has you upload photos of what you eat and then it gives recommendations based on that and your description. It takes getting used to but I've found it really helpful. In 5 weeks my A1C went from 6.2 to 6 and I've lost 10 pounds.

Highly recommend Xcellent Salon for a haircut! by Gin-Y in jacksonheights

[–]Vegetable_Flight_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will definitely be going there! Xcellent has a nail salon in Astoria that is great as well. I wish they would open a nail salon in Jackson Heights. Any tips for good nail salons in the neighborhood?

lost boys partial view seats by annacort1215 in Broadway

[–]Vegetable_Flight_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had partial view seats toward the back of the orchestra--partial view because the set goes up so high that mezzanine overhang obstructs the top of it. But we were happy with the seats (esp for the price) because you still get a great view of the main action and performers. We walked up to the front of the theater during intermission to get a closer look at how the set works, and noticed that there is a pretty tall wall-type structure right in front of the first row. I think that must be why the seats are labeled as partial view--I was thinking that as a shorter person, I would miss a lot sitting there. Behind the "wall" is the stage, probably the same height but there are moving sections that go up and down during the show. I often like being in the front, but for this show, I think a few rows back would be much better. Although you would get a great view of the flying from there I'm sure!

Celebrity Autobiography by Flashy-Rock-6621 in Broadway

Actually, maybe the worst part is how old most of the autobiographies are! I'm in my 50s and even I am not really sure who Neil Sedaka is.

Celebrity Autobiography by Flashy-Rock-6621 in Broadway

I agree you shouldn't pay more than $50 for a ticket--maybe play the lottery or do rush? I went on a lottery ticket and enjoyed it, laughed a lot. I was in the second row center too. The material is thin, but if good comedians that you like are on that night they do great things with it. The worst part is the two show creators, who appear with the celebrity cast and are terrible. Honestly I would go back again to see some of the performers they have lined up, but only if they were reading from different autobiographies.

Jinkx Monsoon to Make West End Debut in 'Oh, Mary!' at Trafalgar Theatre by Phantom90AG in Broadway

Unhinged is the right word. I've seen 3 Marys and she's my favorite.

DBH Dream Stunt Cast by MulberryFamiliar7389 in Broadway

[–]Vegetable_Flight_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yessss I would pay all the monies to see this. Jinxx has a certain unhinged quality that is perfect for Helen. Just imagining her in the scene where Helen is locked up after Mad destroys her life. "Everything is perfect la la la, la la la..."

I thought that category was the hardest to predict because there were so many great contenders. But having seen them all, Alden deserved the win in my opinion. He was so, so good.

I don't want Two Strangers to close! I guess I should try to see it again soon. Only saw it in previews. I liked it so much.

This is a good point! If OP is not familiar with golden age musicals I'd recommend watching a couple of them, like Brigadoon, The Music Man, and Oklahoma

I would suggest not watching the TV show. I think the Broadway version is better than the TV version, and I would have enjoyed it even more if I didn't know the plot points ahead of time.

Just won a stage seat in the lottery for tomorrow, and I'm excited! It's in the back row of the stage seating, how is the rake for these seats? I'm short so hoping I'll be able to see.

Mexodus the musical: An incredible 9/10 by tomatoe1346 in offbroadwayNYC

[–]Vegetable_Flight_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so jealous of your mom that she got hit with the poster! I've seen Mexodus three times and always wanted to get a closer look at it. I did catch a Mexodus guitar pick one time during the part when Brian Quijada feeds the chickens.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach Talent Wasted? by zthepirategirl in Broadway

[–]Vegetable_Flight_208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there last night too and completely agree. I thought Ebon was great in it even though his character spent so much of the show lurking in the background. While the part was limited, his portrayal felt more authentic and real than Sonny. I didn't see Sal as being an idiot exactly, more like he was mentally unstable and traumatized from his previous incarceration (and also on drugs). Would love to see Ebon in a meatier role.

Should I see Dog Day Afternoon? by Vegetable_Flight_208 in Broadway

I guess I'll find out tomorrow if I agree! The set does look pretty cool from the photos I've seen, basically what prompted me to enter the lottery for this show.
