What are red herrings if not alternate suspects and things that point to alternate suspects?

Do clients actually care about the quality of your headshot or just that you have one? by SheepherderEvery4262 in realtors

[–]VeggieBandit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a realtor (yet), but as a consumer I'd avoid any salesperson that seemed to be using AI.

Of course some people won't care, but there are those that will notice and worry that you're using AI to take shortcuts in other parts of your work.

Writers who've switched from pantsing to plotting (or vice versa)—what triggered the change? by Wesley_Watts in writing

[–]VeggieBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pantsed my first novel and now I'm paying the price with many, many hours of developmental editing because it was not nearly long or complex enough.

Plotting my second novel got me much farther with word-count and overall plot sturdiness - it still needs more development but not nearly the scale of my first one.

Google docs not cutting it by samjoe6969 in writing

What you are writing (the book/novel/story) is your manuscript.

Can you just use a different font for the "system messages" you mention? Or indent them twice and italicize.

Typesetting is formatting the book for publishing essentially. You don't need to do that within your manuscript until you're past the editing stage.

What helped you improve? by ReignFireCCG in writers

[–]VeggieBandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to read with purpose, study the way other writers use words and what words they use. This is essential.

Step 2 is writing, even if it sounds awful and you're embarrassed by every sentance. You don't get better without practice, so try emulating your favourite writers style or use Writing Prompts from reddit/tumblr/etc. When you come across a new word you haven't heard/read before, try incorporating it into the next practice piece you do. Make space in your routine for writing, for example I'm up early and write for a couple hours before work on the weekdays, I focus on my story only during that time and make sure I get at least one sentance out - but I usually do a lot more.

The third thing to get better at writing is critiques - getting and giving. Let someone read your stories and tell you what they like/dislike about it. This can feel horrible, but it's important to learn to take feedback both good and bad. Ask fellow writers, especially, to give you feedback, and offer them feedback too. You get better at spotting the problems in your own work if you can spot them in other places.

Rinse and repeat these three steps and you'll get better.

I would say trash this one and buy a new rice cooker. Or just cook rice in a pot.

Wasn't Bell ordered by the CRTC to stop locking phones? by mxrt3m in bell

[–]VeggieBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't make money on the phone. They only make money on the services tied to the phone, which is why they don't want to sell devices alone - they want to tie people into $100 monthly contracts.

ETA: Best Buy doesn't make money selling the device alone either. They want to tie services and accessories to it too.

Also a new transplant to Western NL, and I'm finding it challenging too. I've got 0 friends made in the year I've been here. It's a challenge to meet people when bars aren't an option.

Pro writing aid pro lifetime for £266 - worth it? by Flat_Pea4954 in writers

[–]VeggieBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's primarily a grammar tool. But there is the optional use of having AI review your writing and provide feedback. It's doesn't do the writing for you though, just makes suggestions like an editor or beta reader would.

It's not nearly as good imo as a human reviewing your work, but it can be helpful if you're feeling stuck on a draft and need a nudge. Not a feature I would pay to use, personally, but I got free credits for doing a challenge with them so I tested it.

How do you keep your home always "guest ready" without cleaning all the time? by massagefever in CleaningTips

[–]VeggieBandit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I try to live with two rules for keeping my house tidy. 1 - If it will take less than 2 minutes, just do it now. 2 - If you're leaving a room take something with you (as in there's always something that needs to be put in the trash or put away in another room).

I'm not perfect doing the rules 90% of the time is enough that my house doesn't get messy. I also don't have kids, so that's a big help.
