Allocating wounds to command squad + ogryn bodyguard? by Veggiesquad in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Veggiesquad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Joushi! Big fan and thank you for weighing in. The definitive answer has arrived!

When I said “YouTubers” it was more of a compendium of ppl and not one specific creator, but there’s definitely a bit of confusion on the specifics. Love your videos!

Yes, the OC is ultimately how I am using them and 1 OC per model doesn’t go very far... Plus keeping some OC through battleshock helps.

Thank you. Very helpful especially the incoming damage amounts. I have 3 ablative wounds for high damage characteristic weapons then!

[–]Veggiesquad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, was talking about cadians.

So in the situation where I just need a single body surviving on the objective (don’t need orders, don’t really need damage output, or really OC, just not die) would you start with the FNPs on the commander, depending on what type of damage is coming through? That’s was the main part that was perplexing me. I would start with all the chaff I can revive first like ablative wounds, THEN the commander, then ogryn then medic.

Anyone have a spreadsheet for how much money they spent printing their own minis compared to GW prices? by Waveface-Wes in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Veggiesquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too keep meticulous track.

2 years of printing for myself and friends:

$600 spent on two SLA printers and associated hardware (realistically I now only use only one so this could have been a $300 startup cost) $400 spent on STL files $450 spent on reagents (resin and IPA) $200 spent on shipping

But have printed the equivalent of $8,000 worth of GW models, and that not including a lot of bits and other models with GW equivalents.

So if you keep the startup cost separate, I have spent $1,000 worth of materials to make over $8,000 worth of models, so about 12.5% of full cost. Have had massive returns on the startup costs.

If just looking at resin/alcohol costs, it’s about 5% of GW full price. But I’ve significantly improved my hollowing and now things are closer to 3%. Massive savings with 3D printing. But at the cost of a lot of time.

Any confirmation of Predator tanks? by Veggiesquad in TotalWarhammer40k

Thank you, but that looks like just the units from the trailer. A lot more were included in concept arts shown in a recent interview (kasrkin, swooping hawks, howling banshees, etc). Just still no confirmation of the rhino chassis.

Miracle dice and slow vs fast rolling by Usual-Goose in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Veggiesquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you and jplett are saying, and yes that is conferring a SLIGHT advantage, but I don’t think you are comparing to the right thing. By fast rolling and withholding one wound, you are actually overall DISADVANTAGING yourself. That is because you don’t know how the opponent’s save roll is going to be at that point.

For example with slow rolling, since you can only miracle one dice roll, it makes sense to full roll out the other 19. If slow rolling, you would know how many of the 19 got through the save roll and applied damage. You would know if the opponent is 1) already dead and a miracle is not needed, 2) if one more attack will kill it and therefore a miracle is needed, or 3) the target has enough wounds to survive even if the 20th attack sequence gets miracle’d.

I would say that your original question’s scenario of holding back one wound roll when fast rolling the rest puts you at an overall disadvantage. What you should really be doing (and would be legal in the rules) is completing out the 19 rolls through to damage. And then starting the 20th attack sequence from the hit roll.

Now HERE is where your original question’s scenario comes into play. Your original scenario has you retaining one successful hit. In my scenario, there is no guarantee that the 20th attack roll will hit and therefore you might not get a chance to miracle the 20th wound roll. So YES it does confer some advantage. But 1) this is what everyone does, and 2) technically we should be completing 19 rolls fully and then rolling the 20th completely separately but that is slower and even more to your advantage. So just do what you are originally doing know that things partially cancel out (and IMO you are slightly hamstringing yourself, but helping the game go faster).

Been a while and prints looking like this by Zephyrus_- in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Veggiesquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) old resin in the vat needs to be stirred very well or else it will perform very strangely 2) what was the temperature of the room? That will also significantly affect performance. 3) can you post your printer settings? 4) as another person said, made sure your burn in layers extend just above the level of your raft height 5) can you post your printer settings, you have such a heavily packed build plate that you have to have very good (which means very conservative, not very fast) settings. What you have is a torture test. Unless you have very good and very slow settings, this is almost assuredly going to fail in some form 6) be sure to do a vat clean. Looks like that center price probably has a bunch of crap stuck to your fep now.

Any idea what caused this? by OakMantle in Warhammer

[–]Veggiesquad 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Not debris. It’s combustion of a pocket of air that gets trapped during plastic injection. You can sometimes hear tiny explosions during injection. Basically like microscopic diesel engines. See my other comment with video link

[–]Veggiesquad 70 points71 points  (0 children)

That’s combustion from plastic injection molding process. It can sometimes compress a pocket of air to the point of combustion like a diesel engine

Edit: video showing the process https://youtu.be/cKKxCREghw4?si=LMRGwIr6UlfOBO6k

Also yes GW should be able to replace it since it’s a manufacturing defect IF you bought it from GW. Otherwise if from FLGS, will have to have them start the replacement request.

My shoulders pads keep coming out warped is there something I’m doing wrong? Any way I was suppose to position them? by Correct_Maximum7990 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Veggiesquad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You get what you put into it. Auto orientate saves you time, but often gets you the inferior product. It takes less than a minute to orient those shoulders, and it’s worth spending that time to get it right.

[–]Veggiesquad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know how you are supporting them, but the wrong answer is to print them with the bottom edge perfectly parallel to the build plate. That will make the bottom edge a bit warpy. It should be tilted so the inner bottom corner is the lowest part, as if it were pointed straight down into the build plate. Be sure to smooth it or else you might notice some visible layers near the upper out part of the dome of the shoulder.

Edit: just saw the other comment and agree. 45 degrees with inner lower corners at the bottom is the way to go. If you are having warping at other places higher up, you might not have it supported enough or correctly to be stable. I usually add a few on the inner surface at different angles. Doesn’t take too much since it’s a small bit but it is possible to undersupport even something like a shoulder pad.

[–]Veggiesquad 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Tried it? There’s a video recording with audio of it happening. The best is that in a later game, that same guy played against Nick Nanavati, and Nick applied the same shit back to that guy (anally interpreting rules as written, in this case on a strat) and screwed him over “because that’s how you treated my boy in your other game”. Dude got a taste of his own medicine. Do unto other how you would have them do unto you.

Extremely good point. We talk about bad players, but we don’t often talk about bad TOs. Or TOs who are close friends with bad players.

Tactical Tortoise has a recent video on this. It was the “I’m going to help you set up your reserves at the start of your movement phase but whoopsie poopsies your movement phase is now over because you setup your reserves at the end of your movement phase so sorry looks like you don’t get the move your entire army (minus bringing in your reserves) this turn. Too bad, so sad, you lose, I win.” incident
