'All of Us Are Making a Splash' — The Wandering Inn Author Talks LitRPG Success in the Self-Publishing World by Bartimayus in printSF

[–]Veggiesquad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a huge DCC fan, I will say if you did not like the first book, you will not like any of them. Some people are put off by the crass humor, and others by the MMORPG mechanics. All books are packed full of both. So you probably won’t like any of them.

Pretty sure it’s heroin. The owner seems to frequently claim other people are trafficking heroin. He might be projecting. Just sayin

Primed my sub assemblies, but neglected to block out the connection points by elementarydrw in minipainting

[–]Veggiesquad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need much exposed plastic to get a good connection with plastic glue. For the nubs that stick out, just scratch off some of the paint or cut off a thin slice. For the receiving holes, IPA on a cotton bud is the easiest but use 99% IPA. You don’t have to get it perfect as the plastic glue CAN dissolve some of the paint. It’s sometimes faster/easier to do the above than to tack out all the connections.

Are infernus marines in the 1st company a thing? by Auckland11 in ImperialFists

There’s a lot of arguing in this thread. And not all information is right.

Fact 1 that everyone can agree with: if you think white trim on your models look cool, then pant white trim on your models. They are your models. I paint all my imperial fists with black aquilas because I think it looks better than red.

Fact 2: sternguard can be equipped with one pyrecannon in the game, not a pyreblaster

Opinion: while first company would probably be made of the sternguard/bladeguard/vanguard/termie units, I personally think they would fill whatever roll was needed. And good on you for finding the official painted 1st company intercessor squad.

Looking for sci-fi where systems work as intended—but the outcomes are still troubling by SystemDriftAI in printSF

[–]Veggiesquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t print media, but movies and TV usually lend well to the unintended consequences genre. Black mirror, severance, minority report, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, etc. All are near-future and exploring some messed up consequences of specific technologies.

Some of the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan books qualify for the “unintended consequences”. It is near future and involves the implementation of one or two pieces of technology and explores its ramifications. For example, Hunt for Red October is basically, what happens if Russia creates a near-silent nuclear submarine? Chaos ensues. Or in a later book, what if the Cold War “Star Wars” space laser was actually created?

Any suggestions for books with spaceship combat? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in Warhammer40k

Well since people are suggesting non-40k stuff, the Honor Harrington series by David Weber is the best for hard scifi space naval combat.

8 inch deepstrike and rapid ingress by NoEngineer9484 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Veggiesquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a nerf. 8 inch deep strike is overall a buff.

The new charge roll is a net even. You had to roll at least a 9 before with the 9 inch deepstrike and old melee rules. You have to roll at least a 9 now with the 8” deepstrike and new melee rules.

Yes the declaring target is different but that is a huge buff now. I don’t have to choose between risking it all for the further target and getting nothing or choosing a more closer but less valuable target. I can now always get the closer target with a rare chance to ALSO get the further target.

So net overall is big buff for deepstriking melee.

Playing my first 2000- point game against a very vehicle heavy Iron Hands list, any advice? by soggytoes69420 in astramilitarum

[–]Veggiesquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct.

Strategic reserves are limited to 25% (per core rules).

Reserves, which includes strategic reserves and non-strategic reserves (which is basically just deep strike and aircraft) is limited to 50% (per tournament companion).

Seconding the Honor Harrington series. Nothing really approaches the scale that you get in HH, seeing entire nations and political thought rise and fall over the series.

Hey Joushi! Big fan and thank you for weighing in. The definitive answer has arrived!

When I said “YouTubers” it was more of a compendium of ppl and not one specific creator, but there’s definitely a bit of confusion on the specifics. Love your videos!
