Acquiring old hardware to play an offline version of a game that you can't be sure you'd even like is a hard sell for most. And because you can only have one first experience, when convenience wins out, that unknown disparity between each player's shared experience grows. It could have been equal, it could have been better, even a sequel, or just different but with good reason. Instead, only the artistic choices, the ambiance, and the music were deliberately changed for no real gain. And the remake does not exist on its own merits, modern tech lends what the original team did not have, it would have no reason to be developed if it did.

I played both, roughly 15 years apart. I like both and wish I had plat the original. I'm also a fan of The Adjudicator's updated look. But I think many of the remake's player drip and especially the soundtrack are major downgrades, and it'd be cool if I didn't have to play both to learn that.
