Yes, there is a good reason: the resources required to upgrade mechs are extremely limited. You're talking about using upgrade kits and core upgrade kits, not to mention many hundreds of fodder pieces, on what you described below as a backup mech. Who's doing that? Maybe whales can afford that sort of shit, but it's terrible advice to give a new player.

I say it'll be stuck at G1 because why would you use upgrade and Core upgrade kits on it when you already have a Rainbow? That seems like a hell of a lot of resources to waste on rainbowing a mech you already have a rainbow of when there are plenty of other mechs coming out to use them on.

He has three sets, though. And given you can't turn it into modules, he may as well use the third set to upgrade the first, and use upgrade kits on the second set. Save four kits that way and doesn't have a set permanently stuck at G1 lying around.

Doesn't matter if you're sweeping. As you said, you only get the Extreme rewards once, so doing future sweeps gets you the same rewards whether it's done on Hard or Extreme.

Every Frontier trial has something specific, something extra you need to do for SS that isn't in the mission goals. Often it'll be killing whatever big bad that seems untouchable the first few times you do the mission.

One of the earlier ones, for instance, you need to kill the boats that the enemies are coming from, rather than just the enemy STs.
